OVERVIEW:
This brand new hotel is beautiful! The room and bed were very comfortable. We would happily stay here again.
We were happy to have a balcony and a city view, although wish we didn't get a handicapped room - we did not ask for it and were walking in water on the floor all day.
The skiing was fantastic at Parsenn. The location of the hotel was great, at the edge of the Dorf side of town, and we often walked home from dinners in town. It was a nice walk, even in December. And the free rides around Davos were VERY nice.
We enjoyed live music in the lounge offered on a couple of the nights.
The free wifi was very nice to have (just sign up for IHG rewards to get it free).
SOME EXCELLENT SERVICE:
The bellmen were the best part of our visit - so friendly, helpful, and personable. Most other staff tried to be helpful, but really were just polite and did not have the most warm and friendly attitudes. Very reserved, but that seemed to be fairly typical of the Swiss culture. We checked baggage on the trains from Zurich to Davos Dorf so to have less difficulty figuring out our 3 trains, the bellmen picked the bags up once at the train station the next morning, and had them at our hotel room by 8am when they can in, fantastic! The complimentary van rides around town provided by the bellmen provided an incredible value to our stay (as taxis are very expensive), with reliable and complimentary transportation to skiing and back, restaurants and back, etc.
SOME NOT GOOD SERVICE:
- The concierges were not always as knowledgeable about the area as we hoped. A few restaurant recommendations seemed to be all.
-I called down from the room to inquire as to the hours to visit the Monstein Brewery, and was told to come down and read the book they have about it. Upon reading the flyer, I still didn't get the information I was looking for. They finally looked it up online (didn't have the answers) and then he called which I did appreciate, to only get a voicemail of not helpful details. Needless to say, we didn't get to visit, didn't feel like we had any information, and didn't feel as though I received friendly help and more like I was annoying the concierge. Besides the bellboys and the Capricorn hostess, I felt as though the staff was shy and not warm and welcoming. Polite yes, but that is where it stopped. I often felt like I was inconveniencing someone who was in a hurry, or maybe just not interested in talking to American's. I feel better also when Concierge's are confident in their recommendations and information. I did not feel as though they were confident in their suggestions.
Next issue: We were given incorrect information regarding the hotel breakfast options from the hotel concierge. I tried to check out the dining options, and the breakfast restaurant was closed, (door open but nobody there), and I could not find a menu at the host stand. I asked the concierge for menus, and he had them for 2 out of the 4 locations in the hotel, but not the breakfast, and I asked about it. He said no menu because it was buffet. I asked how much the buffet cost, and "no charge, it is included with your room." Yay! Not true.
We checked in with the pleasant hostess, and sat down with our plates from the buffet, and watched all other tables get offered coffee/cappuccinos, but never came to offer us coffee. Half way through our plates she came over and rudely dropped the bill, still without a coffee offer. $50 Franks each for breakfast??! We asked the hostess, and she said it is never included, but some room plans get discounted $35/ea breakfast, so they discounted to $35/ea because of the incorrect information. We felt they should have comped the breakfast since we were mis-informed.
While we enjoyed the lounge - the servers always forgot us, and we sat front and center and they had to walk past us to other tables. We had to reach out and flag them down for more drinks, after letting our empty glasses sit there for several minutes and several times passing by our table with us trying to get their attention with difficulty.
DAVOS RESTAURANT SUGGESTIONS:
- Paluda Grill (Italian pizza & pasta, authentic decor, excellent service)
- Pot au Feu (Fondue, authentic decor, great service)
- Parsenn Stübli (by the Hotel Parsenn - Swiss food, great after ski patio bar)
- Kirchner´s Stübli (by the Hotel Victoria - Fondue, fantastic service)
SUGGESTIONS FOR THE HOTEL:
- Add HOT tubs / jaccuzzis! The outdoor "warm" pool was OK with the bubbles, but for a winter / ski destination it really should be much warmer. American's will expect it to be at least 100 degrees F. I was definitely missing a hot tub on this visit :(
- Add gas fire pits to your large scenic patios! Perfect for winter & summer. Guests will love them!!
- Have copies of all the hotel's restaurant menus in the guestrooms and concierge station and explain breakfast more clearly to guests at check-in. read more
