I'm a big fan of Maegan! When I was pregnant, I was worried that my hospital wouldn't allow me the birth experience that I had been preparing myself for. My husband and I had decided that I would deliver at the hospital for our first baby, but I still wanted to bring a doula, because I wanted a familiar "coach" there with us. I ended up finding Maegan toward the very end of my pregnancy, and she lifted so much of my fear just after our first call. She was able to work with me and my husband virtually, as well as in person when we could. She helped me with my placenta management after the birth, even though I still haven't decided what I want to do with it. She is super knowledgeable and excited about what she does, so she ended up being my go to person for discussing all my prenatal questions that I was afraid to say out loud. My hospital ended up having a midwife deliver the baby, which was great. Maegan and the midwife worked together and just made my birth experience way better than I could have ever asked for. I was able to give birth on all fours, like I'd wanted to. We got to wait a while before clamping the placenta, because I asked for this. Maegan was knowledgeable about procedures that would be offered during and after labor, and helped me decide whether I wanted them. This is not always going to be the case at the hospital, but with Maegan and the hospital staff that day, it worked out for me. I didn't know the nurse would automatically give me pitocin after I gave birth unmedicated. Maegan let me know I didn't have to accept the pitocin, so I did not. My body was able to what it needed to do on its own. Maegan followed up with me often. It helped to have her there for all the questions that pop up that you aren't expecting to have. One time I called her to ask her about something odd I noticed with my newborn, because I was afraid to Google it and go down that rabbit hole. Luckily, it ended up being something completely normal. She was able to give me peace about it right away and be a friend. She's good about being available to me when I reached out. She works closely with many other doulas, so I knew if anything were to come up, that I would be taken care of no matter what. I would recommend her to anyone.

My doula and I right after the birth of my daughter.

Maegan was my doula for the birth of my daughter in January 2023. I was so grateful to find her and have her calming presence at my birth! Her use of the TENS machine and breathing advice during unexpected purple pushing are what saved me during my 20+ hour labor. I've never met anyone with a more chill attitude, and her affirmation of "you're doing everything right" helped me through birth and postpartum. As a generally type-A, high-strung, perhaps over-informed person, her calm demeanor is what I needed to give space to my fears and feelings. Pre-birth she was always very punctual in answering any of my questions and was very attentive in checking up on me. Her passion for what she does is so real and raw. I definitely recommend her to anyone going through pregnancy and birth.

I also really loved that she's the perfect balance of holistic, but will absolutely speak up if something medical is needed. You can tell her top priority is always keeping both mom and baby safe. We also took her Bradley Method class, which was so helpful and made me feel way more prepared and confident going into birth. We learned so much, and I've already been recommending it to everyone. We were thrilled that Carlin was available to be our doula and attend our birth! When our Bradley classes ended, Carlin kept in touch, continued to check in on us and answer our questions for the remainder of my pregnancy. On my daughter's birth day, my husband and I labored for as long as we could together, but Carlin came as soon as things started getting serious and my contractions were closer together. My poor husband was so relieved to have her there to help, as our birth tub needed to start being filled and he couldn't stay by my side. I immediately felt a calm, supportive presence when Carlin arrived. She rubbed my back, made sure I was drinking enough water, helped me breathe calmly through my contractions, and helped with labor positions. Carlin also took photos while I labored, and captured the moment I met my baby for the first time, which brings tears to my eyes every time I see it!
