I have always had a great experience with Intellitec College but was left let down this time. I have been going to them about 2 times a year for 5 years. I hadn't had my hair dyed for six months due to a surgery. I made an appointment with an advanced student named Emma. I was very polite and had been looking forward to this appointment for over a month for a special occasion. She seamed aloof and not at all interested in taking care about me as a client. I can understand if you're not "feeling it " However, one of the other students came up behind me right after I sat down. The other student joked about not wanting to be there that day; and started coughing in my direction. Emma and the other student laughed together as if I didn't even exist. It set the tone for the entire session. She examined my hair for a long time and told the supervisor, "I see a boxed hair line." I hadn't dyed my hair for 6 months. I have never felt like my hair was less damaged since I was 13 because I used to never it leave alone. This trip was very different, and had a bad feeling about what was coming next. I am now 45 and know in depth about the damage that can my hair can take. My hair is fine but there is a lot of it. She kept telling me that I would occur a $10 fee to simply test it. I agreed. It was obvious when she took a half hour to prepare a bleach that I noticed was puffed up over the sides in a tiny container when she returned. I knew instantly that the formula was doomed to fail due to past mistakes on my part. Also, interesting that the chosen spot was on the exact spot where I round brush my hair so I have a little volume in the back. The piece selected was only 3 inch's with my longest pieces around 7 inches. I think the supervisor was being taken for bit of a ride. I know exactly what was wrong. I wasn't "needed" that so feelings ended up being hurt. My hair has never been in better condition due to 6 months of no dyes, frequent haircuts, and lots a heat protection and masks by pureology. I wish the supervisor would have mixed up her own batch to retest the results. I had was feeling embarrassed on my way out the door telling them I was "rejected." I was left wondering, "so that is it, and I can't come back?" I didn't understand the outcome and was hurt with not feeling wanted there in the first place. I don't think a senior student should just be able to call the shots if they are growing tired of it all. But short cuts? Pun not intended. There are a lot of older women that make up the majority of their testers in this community that I believe deserve a little respect. I believe the students also deserve a lot of respect. However this was an isolated incident. We have to put our complete trust in their hands and without compassion it ruins the experience. I have always had expectational experiences with the students throughout the years, but this time was a real letdown. And no, I am not just trying to get "A Deal" because I believe in the integrity between client and a hairdresser and want them to have proper mediums to express their artistry on. There is a lot of trust involved. My daughter is currently in college and I understand that pressures and struggles are very real. I myself attended a 4 year University and later a technical school for Medical Assistants. I guess my question is, "if you're not going to not take it seriously, why bother." Students encounter people in their 80's and those with Alopecia. Don't they deserve to be seen? Pretty lame that an advanced student seemed to sum me up so fast. The learning process is hard but kindness is easier. An attitude of "toughen up "doesn't match up here. Bullying is absolutely ridiculous if it means ruining the entire experiences for everyone. Everyone should leave a salon feeling better about themselves versus when they come in. Honestly. I just wanted to be "seen" at age 45. Next time if I feel really sensitive after a surgery I will go to the "Professionals". Hate to say that. I hope I can return someday. This was a fluke. There is more kindness in the world than cruelty. I know from past experiences that in the future I will be treated better. I have left with not perfect results. but left still feeling good. We all deserve "a little love." read more
