We have been seeing Dr. Pohl for over 10 years. When we first started the billing group he had in…read morethere was awesome, even the second batch was good. Not now. In the last 3 years, the billing employees have gotten worse. We have spent upwards of $12,000 here. Every time we go in, we are hit with something that costs extra. I was told at my last appointment that I needed to do a specific scan, I declined. I was told that I needed a set of antibiotic injections that cost $300ish a pop. I declined that as well, because I have had them before. This was all from the hygienist. When Doctor Pohl came in, he wasn't worried about any of it. He said every bit of that was something we could keep an eye on. Then my daughter went in. She needed the flap above her gum line lasered down. She had a procedure before, and they were wanting to clean up the scar tissue. "NOT NECESSARY" but could later cause some issues. The only reason I agreed is because I was given a treatment plan that stated that I would pay nothing and the insurances would cover it. My daughter was the one that actually received the paper and talked to them. My daughter told the billing specialist that she could not make the decision for the procedure without speaking to me. They told her that it would be okay because insurance covered it. I called for more information, and I was also told that insurance would cover it. Now I get a bill for $130. When I called and asked why, since it wasn't supposed to cost us anything, I was told that the plan I signed off on stated that it was estimated that insurance would cover it. I told her I understood that, but they are the billing specialists, and they verbally told us that it would be covered. Her response was, "I said it should, which is a technicality". This has happened multiple times here. We are told that insurance will cover it, and then we get a bill. If they don't know if insurance will cover it, then they shouldn't be telling patients that it will be covered. I would have waited on this procedure since it wasn't medically necessary at this time. I have had them tell me my daughter has lied about a billing problem. My daughter was there for her appointment. I was in my car with my toddler. (She was loud and disruptive, and I didn't want her to be in the office like that.) I parked right outside of their window. They asked my daughter if she wanted to charge the account on file, my daughter has no idea about this stuff so she wouldn't know if a card was on file (there was though). I called and got upset because they should not be charging anything without speaking to me. I was then told my daughter lied and they didn't do that. Dr. Pohl is an awesome doctor, but his office has gone downhill. We will no longer be patients and will be finding a new dentist. It would be one thing if this type of thing happened every once in a while but happens all the time now.

Dr. Rauen seems like a nice enough guy, and every time I have gone in there the service has been prompt and affordable. I would probably be giving the practice a higher rating, but I called in the other day and had a semi-ridiculous exchange with the doctor during which he said "I am not sure why you keep doing that" and then offered no solutions to my grinding problem.
