Sparky, my best bud, has recently crossed over the rainbow bridge. But without Dr. G, Traci, Sam, and everyone at Integrative Vet, we would have lost him years ago. When I tell you that they worked wonders, that's an understatement. Acupuncture, herbs, western medicine, laser therapy, and more all helped to give Sparky an amazing few years added onto his life. And they did all of this with love and compassion. Sparky used to have to be dragged out of this vet because he loved it some much, and he'd literally run in. We were there all of the time, and they were there for us all of the time. Simply put, they are a wonderful veterinary office who go above and beyond to help our furry loved ones.w

After reading some interesting reviews here, I wanted to weigh in on my experiences with Dr Selmer…read moreand his practice. Its a shame that some people have felt they were treated unfairly by Dr Selmer but I do believe that a thorough examination of your pet with full testing, even though sometimes pricey, will long term bring better results. And I have two healthy happy cats at home to prove my case. Case #1: JB February of 2014, JB, my 12 year old male cat started losing weight rapidly, eating excessively and drinking water like crazy. He went down to 9 pounds! I of course started freaking out and took him to my vet at the time. The vet told me he probably had cancer even though his blood test results came back negative. She told me to prepare for his demise in a few weeks because she couldnt figure out what was wrong with him. She was literally scratching her head with confusion. So, obviously heart broken, I started to search for a second opinion. Then I found Dr Selmer, but since he was on vacation, he referred me to a wonderful doctor at an Emergency Hospital for further testing till he returned. She did further tests and after a few weeks of waiting, JB's diagnosis came back with Irritable Bowel Syndrome which turned out to be totally manageable! Of course, all this testing was not cheap but he's my boy so I was prepared to get to the bottom of his illness. Dr Selmer then took over his care, ordered a nutritional diet and some chinese herbs to balance out his steroids. His whole concern was that JB have a better quality of life and not be so reliant on the Western medicine which can cause damage long term. As of today, almost 2 years later, JB is a healthy 13 pound tom cat playing with his toys and purring away everyday. THAT is only because of Dr Selmers care. JB does have to go in for blood work every 6 months which does cost a bit, around $700 but the results then lead to tweaking his herbs and his food as he ages and its worth it to me to have him in my life healthy and happy. Case #2: Sarah For years Sarah has scratched at her ears. The old vet would check for ear mites, and various issues but could never get to the bottom of her ear trouble. They instructed me to clean out her ears every other day, add drops, you name it. Then they thought she had an allergy to fish or plastic so there went the plastic bowls, to be replaced with glass. Then the old vet finally concluded that "Some cats just get gunk in their ears". Case closed for them. But yet still no relief for my suffering cat. Took her to Dr Selmer after the great results with JB and he asked if he could run tests on her ears for an infection. I of course said yes and then wondered why the other Vets didnt check for that. He said it was because of the cost of the test which was about $300. I agreed to it since we had no other answers and lo and behold, infection was the cause! He put a dissolving ear medicine into her ears which melted after a few days and BOOM, Kitty has no more ear scratching! That was done in February of 2015 and she's been infection free ever since. An integrative approach to Veterinary care is not inexpensive. And it can be time consuming. But for me, the results are what speak volumes. JB was basically left for dead from the old vet. Sarah was finally given up on as well with her issues. Dr Selmer is thorough and gets to the bottom of the issues and it does cost. But if you want the best, sometimes you just gotta pay for it.

I took Summer, my 7 year old Labrador mix to get checked for back pains. Dr.Selmer quickly got to the root of the problem and made a great difference with his remedies. Now Summer is back on the path to her usual lively self! Summer's coat is shinier than ever, and she can go on walks without any issues. Needless to say, Dr.Selmer is a very caring and hardworking doctor. I recommend him to anyone considering visiting him.

She believes in both, each complimenting and supporting the other. That's what I wanted and need for my best friend and little boy, Trooper. On top of that, she is happy to work with a patients' regular Vet and studies their medical records thoroughly. She has a gentle, caring manner and spends the time to fully explain her analysis, opinions and reasons for her recommendations. Dr Barotz has a 360 degree approach and the education, knowledge and experience to carry it out. I am so very happy to have her at our side through what is a very tough time. My Trooper has liver cancer. Thanks to her, I have a much better understanding of how I can give Trooper's body more support and comfort, as well as other options I might have for his care. I wish I had known her when I first adopted Trooper 11 years ago, through sickness AND health. I think we can take better care of our little friends with her full approach.

A frustrating thing about being a dog parent in NY is, the boroughs and Long Island are full of organic, wholistic, integrative options for humans. From integrative wellness centers (usually unaffordable), to organic restaurants, organic coffee, wine, cotton, and yoga - there's plenty of wholistic/ integrative options for humans, and almost none for our animal friends. Seems like every veterinarian, even if they offer acupuncture, all operate on the same protocols, the same narrow areas of knowledge where they don't see the body as an interconnected system. It's a relief to know the folks at Williston Park Animal Hospital, to finally have a vet who offers things beyond the usual tweak-one-thing-but-worsen-another paradigm of allopathic medicine. 99% of vets should all have the same advertisement, at best - A comfortable waiting area, a team of people who genuinely love animals, but have such a narrow knowledge base that they may as well be interchangeable cogs in a machine, all offering the same things - that's how medical schools churn out graduates, however well meaning. Dr Hardoon knows about herbal medicine, noninvasive therapies, takes her time and answers my too-many questions. Their prices are challenging (if they offer a foot soak, ask the cost before agreeing!), but cheaper vets who have a smaller, more toxic toolbox end up costing more. On multiple occasions, I asked Dr Hardoon about additional testing, just in case, and when she could have pushed more things that resulted in a higher bill, she explained why she didn't think the additional testing was necessary. As my baby is getting older, there is huge peace of mind in knowing a vet who thinks wholistically and respects choices.

I was a wreck and felt helpless and frustrated with our previous vet as the treatments just seemed to make my dog worse. I found Marcie and consider myself lucky that she had time to see me in the first place. Her treatment style is thorough, efficient and most importantly- effective. After one session, my dog showed improvement, and by the 8th session he was healed! Marcie then helped with my dogs stomach and anxiety issues and he is now better than ever, at the age of 11! Holistic pet care is the only treatment that solves the underlying problem. It is gentle and it works! Fallek told me to administer additional fluids to my kitty which were 150 ccs - 50 ccs more than what I had been successfully administering for 6 months - way too much for my sweet girls little heart and blood pressure! So besides needing eye drops for glaucoma and a cataract she required Prednisone. Well we all see these commercials for wonder drugs ( the wonder is why we take them with all the side effects) so even though the Prednisone gave my girl relief it slowly started to effect other systems. Last week in what appeared to be overnight she slowly stopped eating but only drank. That was a red flag. Took her to an emergency facility which was a nightmare. Four hours sitting around waiting for some diagnosis. Every so often someone would come out and give some empty info. Finally a vet came out and provided me with a 3 page plan with an estimate that sent me to the cardiologist. This where Zen Dog comes in. Based on the diagnosis and the plan with no light at the end we felt the best most humane course of action was to euthanize. Spoke with Dr. Ray., he could not have been more understanding and compassionate. He showed up at the house took the time to explain the process.
