The Montclair facility, being on a collage campus gave my seven year old swimmer an extra "I'm swimming in a university pool" confidence boost. Mr. Matt knows exactly when and how to challenge his swim students. Whether he's working with them in the shallow first half of the lane or he's right besides his student as they tackle the full 25 meters, his excited encouragement never fades. He's an outstanding instructor! The Take Me to the Water staff has great communication skills. My emails never go unanswered. I truly appreciate that as a parent. The pool side staff has a fun positive vibe when interacting with the students. We're quite happy to have found this swim program.

However, during a recent swimming class, another parent made a comment to my husband saying that our son was "so rough." My husband does not speak or understand much English, so at the moment he didn't fully understand what she was saying or how rude the comment came across. Once he explained it to me, I was honestly very disappointed. My son is still a young child who is learning, playing, and getting comfortable in the water. If there was a genuine concern, there are much kinder and more respectful ways to communicate it. As parents, I think we should all have a little more patience and understanding with other people's children. Kids are still learning, and comments like that are unnecessary--especially when directed toward a parent who may have difficulty understanding the language.

We've been to a few different swim schools in Bergen County, this is one of the more centrally located ones, being right off Rt17 and the GSP. Being fairly new, the facilities are very clean and bright, well equipped with spacious storage and changing rooms, with very friendly staff. Hours are very good so you should be able to find a time that works for you. There's even a small kids play area for those with antsy little ones. Price seems to be a bit higher than a few other places, but not surprising considering how new and clean it is here. But good overall.

The biggest mistake we ever made was signing our 2 children under 2 up for lessons here. Let me…read morestart by saying, the staff were friendly when I initially signed up, but they're extremely disorganized and this is not a true swim class for toddlers. We signed up, and the first class we showed up to, our instructor was not there. No call, no show. I dragged two young kids (2.5 and 8m) to class, and the lady up front said he had an emergency. I said I understood, but no call or email? She claims she couldn't find my number. Regardless, she had my email as we emailed just the day prior, but I gave the situation a pass. Second class, we arrive, the instructor was cleaning the side of the pool. I sat on the bench, for 5-10 minutes with both kids as this guy, Mike, who runs the pool was obviously busier than the class I paid for. I was annoyed, as I was very adamant on a 9am start because my baby needs to nap, but I brushed it off and then the kids had their session. It was unorganized, no true class routine, but fine. I tossed it up to being different. Now, our third class. My husband decided to take my son, while I stayed home with my daughter as she was very tired and given this guys pattern, I didn't want to risk her losing it and screaming. So, my husband arrives, on time. Mike is no where to be found. My husband goes to the front lady Diane, she said he was in the bathroom. So he waits. He then texted me again, and asks where this guy could be and was he late for me prior? I said yes he was like 5mins or so late, but ask for him again. At this point it's been over 15 minutes, my son was running and hyper given he is 2 and my husband was quite upset. Mike comes strolling out roughly 20 minutes later, doesn't say sorry, acts like nothing and proceeds to say he needs to set up. Why exactly wasn't everything set up? That I don't know. Then my son is walking alone, next to a huge pool with out Mike paying any mind to him, and he was very nonchalant. My husband is now angry, and expels some words back and forth with Mike. He also expressed that our son wouldn't be taking this or any other lesson with someone who is not apologetic for his actions and barely paying any mind to a 2 year old next to a pool! With that, I wrote an email immediately and said our son will not return given Mike's disregard and care for the private sessions we paid for. Then, all of a sudden I get an email saying we aren't invited back due to my husband? Whatever if that makes them feel better- fine. We already emailed first and had zero intention of ever stepping foot into that disorganized mess of a place again. This place is beyond disorganized, and shouldn't offer private classes for children at all. Now, they are giving me the run around and trying to refund me partially as they claim the second session I should lose?? What? How is that fair? This man Mike was almost 20 minutes late (after two prior no show/late occurrences) and we should be okay with that service? No I don't think so. They claimed to mail a check, then did not (I have this all in writing). Then email me days later saying someone is going to show up to my house to drop a check in an hour?? What? Come to my house??Then this person shows up, with the wrong amount on the check. I was not accepting this because they felt it was the right number to them. Doesn't work that way. We were only provided 1 lesson, that was barely a lesson at that. Due to the refusal to offer the accurate refund of 7/8 classes- I plan to take this matter up with my credit card company. I initially submitted to PayPal, but didn't upload all emails. I will submit all emails, that show we were on a strict timeline start, all corresponding emails after and proof of his no show, late attendance. I highly recommend considering an alternative swim school for your kids- this place is a absolute waste of money and time. Plus, the classes are completely disorganized, much how they act themselves here.

When I spoke w Claudia last week about signing up my 2 children for one week of summer camp,…read more Claudia explained the $199 for first child and 10% off second child. She did not explain about the $50 annual membership fee (?). When I went online to sign up and pay for the week's session, I discovered not only the $50 fee, but I also realized I had to "agree" to monthly withdrawals to the credit card and that I must in writing give 30 days notice to withdraw from program. We called her today and she said not to worry about that because it doesn't apply to us and that the website they use for payment does not allow them to have the three different programs separate (?). She also confirmed yes we would have to pay the $50 fee because her insurance is expensive as I can imagine... (what?) isn't that part of the program costs? So whether u do one week or 10 weeks or one year u pay $50 extra dollars? Not to mention she did not disclose this over the phone last week? And now I am expected to "agree" online to terms and conditions that apply and some that do not apply just to sign up my children for one week? And what happens when we do get charged repeatedly and have no documentation other than a contract we agreed to online and her word not to worry about it? Unfortunately that is not the kind of business I can trust and I will not recommend this place. And we will break the unfortunate news to our children that they will not be going to camp because Royal Gymnastics was not upfront with all the charges and more importantly the online "contractual commitments" we would have to make for one week of camp. Be careful what u "agree to" online.

I recently attended a Pilates class with Liz, and I continue to be deeply impressed by her…read moreexceptional instruction. Liz is a phenomenal teacher whose precision, attentiveness, and capacity to tailor her guidance to each student's body are nothing short of extraordinary. Her corrections are subtle yet transformative, and she leads with both authority and empathy, creating an environment of confidence, safety, and growth. It is regrettable that Liz's talents are not more broadly acknowledged within the gym. Her classes do not receive the same visibility or promotion as many of the more mainstream group activities--and that is a disservice both to her as an instructor and to potential students who would immensely benefit from her expertise. This is especially poignant during the season of Diwali, a sacred time in September/October that honors light over darkness, spiritual renewal, and the triumph of knowledge and mindfulness. Liz's approach to Pilates--centered on balance, breath, focus, and inner strength--resonates powerfully with the spiritual symbolism of Diwali. In fact, her class would have been an ideal program to promote during this period, as it aligns so beautifully with the themes of illumination, inner harmony, and self-transformation. Liz is not just a capable instructor--she is an extraordinary asset to the Pilates community. She deserves far greater recognition, support, and promotion so that more students can discover the profound value she offers. YMCA management needs to be open to your members needs. The diversity and age audience has changed. Idea - perhaps incorporating yoga class nights for couples while their children are being taken care of? Or maybe promoting Pilates evening class with "a thriller night with Pilates"?

I am spending the time to write this review in hopes that another family will not go through the…read moresame experience that we did. I genuinely was excited about the possibility of my child enrolling here because of the things others have mentioned - clean appearing facilities, outdoor location attached to facility, and cameras. After months of waiting and back and forth (often with multiple unanswered voicemails etc) over 6 months, we finally enrolled in Purple Cats. I paid the fee as they suggested once the space was open for my son, but never heard back about any orientation/starting materials until I reached out. Still, I gave the office the benefit of the doubt and arrived ready with the materials requested, only to find out that neither Ghabby or Gloria (who basically use each other as a convenient scapegoat) were expecting us. Not a single person in the facility knew that we were planned to start that day, despite the payment having been received and the required documentation sent. Despite all of this, we gave them the benefit of the doubt since July is a busy month for daycares, and enrolled my son. We survived day one, but on day two, which I expected to be harder for him, I watched the camera to see how the teachers engaged / eased my son into the adjustment. What I saw was honestly appalling as a mom, not only regarding their treatment of my son, but of the other children. While I definitely understand that children cry and may have a hard time with adjustments, they allowed my son to cry for at least 18 minutes without an adult even approaching him. During this time, they messaged me stating that "live update: diaper dry" but this was clearly false as I was watching my son cry on a rug by himself. When questioned, they stated that this was because they felt they needed to "allow him to gain his trust." At 14 months old, crying for that long does not gain the trust of the child or the parent. Despite ALL of this, I reached out to both Ghabby via phone and Gloria via email who both did the proper lip service and informed me that they would get back to me by end of day with an update on the incident that occurred. I even emailed them more than 48 hours ago to ask for us to pick up our belongings as I've decided this is not the right fit for my family. Despite all of this -including recorded incident tapes documenting a teacher being unnecessarily aggressive with the students- the administration can not seem to respond in a timely manner. In summary, while they may have the "bells and whistles" you first look for on a tour & may do the lip service necessary to make parents feel comfortable, they are disorganized, unprofessional, and unnecessarily aggressive with young children. I strongly urge you stay away.
