The room was calming and comfortable. It smelled wonderful and the heated table was a lovely surprise. I initially went for the "Express Skin Treatment" but when my 45 minutes was up, there was no way I was getting off that table! Jamie graciously and easily continued my treatment (haha, awesome) into what is called the "Customized Skin Treatment.' Heaven the whole time...I'm still sighing from it. Before I left, I purchased some of the products she used from a line called "Dermalogica" and have been using them every since I left. My skin continues to feel silky and healthy. Upon entering Lauren's spa, she immediately made me feel welcome and relaxed. I walked in not really knowing what to ask for or what she could improve upon. But being outdoors oriented, I've seen plenty of sun. While Lauren's spa is new to Portsmouth, she has years of experience in other parts of the country. All of her equipment is new and state-of-the-art. For me (I'm in my 60's), she suggested an initial focus on sun damaged areas and surface capillaries over two IPL sessions. My skin is now smoother, more vibrant and uniform in color! Thus more youthful. The next phase will be some skin tightening completed over a few sessions.

Before your wedding day even comes you get to visit her for a makeup trial, where we spent over an hour playing with different levels of color and intensity and by the time I left I felt amazing. I brought my mom with me for a second opinion and she made it so fun for the both of us. She worked seamlessly with our planner, hair stylist and photographer, and was always 3 steps ahead with the best outcomes in mind throughout the day. A small example of many: my fiance and I were planning to exchange gifts, and knowing I'd likely cry while opening mine she held off on applying any eye makeup that could possibly run until after we opened them. She was right - I cried, and the photos still looked great. In fact my makeup looked just as great at the end of the night as it did when she first applied it, thanks to her airbrushing magic and other products she uses to fix everything in place. Other appreciated things: she tucked blotting papers and a two tubes of lip color into my clutch, and left all my girls with a wand of their respective lip colors for touch ups as well. She did some light makeup on my groom that you couldn't notice in person but made our pictures look even better. She took pictures throughout my makeup application to check for anything that would show up funky on camera as we went. And for a nominal fee she'll stick around to touch you up one more time before you head down the aisle, something I especially appreciated since we did a first look and it was tearful. Do yourself a favor and call Joanne - and don't listen to wedding magazine timelines that tell you to wait until 3-6 months beforehand to do it either. She books up super fast.

Now in her own space at Alainn, she's created such a lovely, warm and welcoming place to come and be pampered. I always get there early and relax for a few minutes in the waiting area with a cup tea. She's thorough and informative and clearly has a vested interest in her clients' overall well-being beyond just the work that she does. She has helped me learn how to better care for my own skin and is always willing to give tips and tricks so even if you can't go regularly you can take away the tools to pamper your skin at home! I live in LA and wait for months to have the chance to come home, visit my family, and go see Meghan! And it's always well worth the wait!!

She did my brows and got rid of a couple of growths that just spontaneously like to sprout on my face (I could never be a man). I've only gotten my moustache waxed about 4 times in my lifetime and can't say it's fun, but I will credit Meghan with doing everything possible to stem the pain. Meghan is cordial, efficient, has a sense of humor, and she is a perfectionist. My lip broke out afterwards, but, apparently, this is common. The bumps did go away within a week or so. I do feel cleaner, and it actually enhanced my features, giving me a smooth look. I rarely wear makeup but my lipstick did look better. I'll be going back routinely.
