One would pass by most of the borough when walking this way, including various shops and restaurants. It is a non-profit, with an ask of $2 per adult as a donation (there is a donation bucket for cash at the entrance). There are a lot of antique ware from the history of Skagway, all educationally marked. It is a small museum, probably taking no more than 30 minutes walking through it (even stopping at displays to read them). There is a small section where you can purchase souvenirs along with historical books about Skagway. A mounted grizzly bear as well as a mountain goat are two native animals prominently displayed. It's very clear that the entire building was recently renovated, including modern bathrooms.

Visited Skagway before the pandemic, and one place we stopped was Corrington Alaska Ivory. Combination of a gift shop store, with a small museum in the back. The store has all sorts of artifacts, trinkets, and ivory carvings for sale. Museum exhibits show the history of Alaska. Natives hunting the wooly mammoth 30,000 years ago. A mammoth tusk, with carvings of 14 mammoths and 31 hunters for sale for $52,500. That would make up for the thousands of free loading tourists fresh off the half dozen monster cruise ships visiting the museum daily in the past. History of Alaska illustrated in the museum. Painting of all the various animals in the landscape of Alaska, Russian rule from 1783-1867, purchase of Alaska, whale hunting by boat, settlement by gold rush travelers 1831-1921, and the Iditarod race held annually, with a sled and associated artifacts. Some of the ivory collection from extinct and endangered species such as the mammoth and pacific walrus. Why no covid 19 cases in Skagway? It's completely cut off from the outside. The coronavirus halted cruise ship sailings, and no way to reach Skagway by land from the rest of Alaska, as borders closed at the Yukon, Canada, rendering the tourist as the most recent endangered species.

Asked a simple question about if they were having any end of season sales as we saw lots of them in Ketchikan and wanted to be sure if there was a sale we didn't miss that, The response I received was that if I wanted a sale, I should go shop elsewhere. Really? It was such a basic question and shouldn't have been met with that type of response.

Like any good quilt store, the cottons are piled high with bolt upon bolt promising a thrill and a chill for anyone with a wish and a dream. My waxing poetic aside, the choice and sales were good--for Alaska. I picked up some Raven Frog Fiber Arts (based in Sitka, AK) roving to spin. The store was busy, but each employee had their job down to a science. Can't do better than that. Accessibility notes: Shop can get crowded. Narrow aisles for customers with mobility devices.
