For example, there are classes that are geared toward specific genres such as horror, YA lit, etc. There are classes that focus on style, polishing your manuscript, finding an agent, etc. It's nice to take a class with a more specific focus (rather than something more general where it can be frustrating to get feedback from classmates who have no interest in your genre). The instructors have been great, and they are experienced writers who really know their stuff about the various aspects of writing and publishing (in part because many of them are published). Also, as a teacher with a very hectic schedule and living a bit outside of city limits, weekly classes in person aren't always ideal for me, but Writespace offers online courses as well as weekend courses to round out their weekly classes. I've been to several of the weekend classes, and they've all been top notch! I like that with my busy schedule, a weekend course is an easy commitment, and at the prices the classes are currently, I really feel I'm getting my money's worth and then some (a huge deal on a teacher salary!). I also tried out an online course (first time to ever try one since they were a very new thing when I was still in college and not offered for my area of study), and I was very pleased with the quality of the class. I would definitely recommend giving Writespace a try, particularly if you are a writer who is a) seeking high quality instruction and b) focused in a more specific are of fiction (such as horror, mystery, YA lit, etc).

I am in their Nonprofit Finance Certificate Program and it is magnificent despite it being the first time they offer it. It is so well organized and structured in a way that it is truly beneficial for the students and the organizations represented. The professors are top-notch as well as the material and projects. They are also very friendly as far as providing quality (and yummy!) food for breakfast, lunches and receptions.

There are 2 classes each week, each an hour and a half. In addition to the price of the course, on the first day you will also be given a list of books/materials that are needed. In my case, I only needed to buy one book, which ended up being around $100 on Amazon for the loose-leaf version. That actually wasn't too bad for a textbook. I'm currently on the 3rd week of classes, and despite the hefty price tag, I don't regret it. So far we have already covered basic introductions, taking leave, adjectives for describing people, classroom objects, colours, and very basic grammar. Further, because of the constant classes, I definitely feel like it builds a great fun and supportive group. One of my classmates brought in French books he had found and gifted one to each of us, and we've discussed watching French movies and getting together to work on homework. All in all, this is a bucket-list item for me coming true. The class is located at the Anderson-Clarke building at Rice. With the price of tuition, they give you a free parking pass which is really nice. Unfortunately, this is located quite far from where I generally work, so since the classes take place during traffic hours on week days I end up running late to every class. Lastly, one potential negative is that a vast majority of whether one would succeed in this class will rely on the student practicing outside of class since it is actually quite fast paced. Madame Larsen focuses a lot on pronunciation, and requests that students record the classes in order to facilitate further practice. All in all, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is either able to get their company to sponsor foreign language classes, or has the time/money to spare on a lifelong skill.

I was ready to start but couldn't because of technical issues. We had some problems setting up my test. When I left the testing room to get help she was helping someone else. I was not happy with the delays. A place like this shouldn't be having technical issues, they are a COMPUTER LEARNING center after all. One thing I did enjoy was that they were able to accommodate my request for a private testing area. The testing room was quiet and peaceful, with many other testers nearby. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend. They did not offer flexible payment methods. and the delays (partially due to the fact that they have outdated computer equipment) were a deal breaker for me. Check out Excel Solutions Team instead.

I was impressed by the online instructor of the course. The instructor was actually online conducting the class with audio which I thought was interesting. Nevertheless it made no difference... It was still just as great as having the Instructor in person. Depending on the class you have various options to meet your needs. Plenty of breaks in between and a great feature to look forward to is having access to the course for an additional 6 months after completion and a certificate to add to your resume! Another interesting twist.. I would of never thought it would be in the same building as all of these high end interior design shops. So during your break it's always nice to skim through...
