I was not sure how I would do a rating on Inova because a week ago my wife showed up early and was told no nurse or NP or anyone was going to be in until 1 pm and so we had to go to Vienna Urgent care where there was no issue. Today however after an hour wait for a walk-in I was seen and the nurse and Doug was efficient and courteous. I will rate it based on both visits and hope management can figure out what happened a week ago. read more

Very incompetent and unprofessional staff. I was scheduled a lab appointment, got there and first, font office tells me I don't have an appointment, when I showed her my appointment confirmation, she tells me that she is not sure who made an appointment, it was not any of them ( pointing the staff at the front desk). Then calls a nurse, nurse of course refuses to come and talk to me, so that I can explain that doctor requested I come back in 3 months for lab check. They tell me I need to make an appointment with the doctor first, which of course is not available unless I wait 4 hours. In front of me speaks with a nurse, that I don't understand things and she needs to talk to me. Not even a single try to show accountability for their mistake. I went there last week as a walk in patient, because I had been struggling with sinius and tonsil problems for weeks and nothing I did at home helped. I decided it was time to see a doctor, because my tonsils had never been this swollen. They already affected how much air I could breathe in. Long story short - I walked in there and was told to wait. Wait time was about 20 mins in the waiting room, but another 45 minutes at least, inside the treatment room! Some assistant took notes and what not. It took forever. And then another 15 min. wait until someone came. I thought that the young lady, who came and checked me out, was a nurse. She looked at my throat, ears, neck etc. and said it's a just a cold and I should go home and use nose spray etc. (Which, as I had emphasized several times before, I had been doing for weeks without improvement). So again, she just wanted to send me home without any prescription medicine and nothing. I eventually insisted on medicine (antibiotcs) because I knew that what I had required antibiotcs. I have been dealing with a compromised immune system (which I told them about, plus it should be in my INOVA records) for 9 years and just know when I don't have a simple cold. That's when the lady identified herself as a Nurse STUDENT!!!! And she said that she couldn't prescribed antibiotics. She then left the room and came back with the nurse/provider who was trying to be funny and nice, and checked me out. She agreed to prescribe me antibiotcs. By then, I had been at this office for an hour and a half. Two days later a swab test, that they had sent to the lab, came back, stating that I had strep throat!!!!!! And I was supposed to be seen by a nurse student only that day??!!! Is that even legal?? In addition I - again, who has a compromised Immune system - was supposed to go home to my two year old (who could get infected!) without antibiotcs??? Really??? I wonder where I should actually report this incident to and if INOVA is doing things like this often with their patients. read more

I was a patient here under my parents healthcare from 16 until 25. At 26, I had to switch to Kaiser Permanente because it was all my employer offered. My dad said he was told that if you had a real health issue with Kaiser that you were as good as dead because of their bureaucratic approach to healthcare. At 29, I switched back to INOVA at the Filigree Court location after switching employers and found that Kaiser Permanente was far more convenient, better organized, and competent than INOVA is. I have been taking the same prescription medication -- a controlled substance -- since I was 7 years old, and have a documented history of taking the same dosage at the same monthly interval for more than 14 years with INOVA. Since switching back, INOVA makes me beg for them to fill my prescription each month, makes me give a urine sample once every few months, paying a $30 copay to do so, and requires me to see a doctor to reaffirm my need for the medication every 3 months, another $30 copay. They claim that it is a uniform requirement due to company policy and refuse to use professional judgment on a case-by-case basis. To make matters worse, their scheduling staff is incredibly sloppy and incompetent, and their medical team is chronically understaffed. When I went to fill my prescription because I was running low on medication, I was told that I needed to come in for my tri-monthly appointment. I called to set it up and was told that the earliest I could see my PCP was a month from that date. I tried to compromise by offering to see any doctor in the practice and was told that the earliest I could see any doctor was roughly 15 days from the date of the call. By that time, I would have had to go 10 days or more without my medication. The ridiculous thing is that they refuse to work with the patient at all by letting them know a month ahead of time that they will have to have this appointment. Some sort of administrative cluster**** happens every month that makes getting my prescriptions filled ridiculously inconvenient, expensive, and stressful. Kaiser Permanente used to simply require periodic urine samples, but would prescribe up to 3 months of the medication at one time, and I could easily see any doctor I wanted in short order, usually the SAME DAY! Please do not make INOVA your PCP, they are the most incompetent medical practice I have ever seen. If you have a prescription classified as a controlled substance, expect to pay multiples of what you did in total cost of filling it at your prior provider, and expect to be treated like a drug addict. read more

Obviously, one answer would be "a practice that will see it's former patients, even when they were gone for 4 years due to a relocation out of state." Nope, not Inova. Just moved back recently to Northern Virginia and tried to make an appointment with my former primary care Dr. Connelly. Was told by Annette that the doctor is not seeing new patients. I explained I am not a new patient, but in their eyes I am. Primary care may be good, but the wait for urgent treatment is typically two to three hours. If you have a cold and a fever, they tell you to wait outside and they'll probably forget about you. Even if you are in pain, the reception staff doesn't seem to care. For two hours, they kept saying, "There are two patients in front of me." Do they only have one FNP who sees patients in urgent care? Why, in that case, would you promote as urgent care. read more

I've visited this place numerous times whenever I need to see a doctor. My primary doctor is Dr. Noelle who is awesome and I've also visited Dr. Connolly who is also wonderful. Both are professional and caring about their patients. Dr. Noel is very cheerful and energetic, he always knocks and then greets you with "Hello, Hello, Hello! How are you doing on this fine ___ (insert day of the week)?" Very pleasant and puts you at ease once the visit begins. Dr. Connolly is very laid back but knowledgeable. I visited him once about a series of rashes I had. We concluded it might be due to starch that's from drycleaning. He prescribed some cream to fix the rashes and now I do drycleaning w/o starch and no more rashes! Both doctors are excellent and have great interactions with their patients. I'm not sure why there are a lot of bad reviews on here but I think it's because a lot of patients don't post any positive reviews since they take their visits for granted. They see hundreds of patients a week, unfortunetly not all of the appointments will make them happy and that's probably on the patient instead of the doctor. As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy with NOVA medical group! read more

I saw Dr. Amelia Lee one time as a primary care doctor. She refused to answer a couple of questions. First she said she wasn't concerned about it, then said it's nothing to worry about, and finally said it wasn't important. Then she actually asked me if I had any other questions. Why would I ask any questions after that? Dr. Lee hardly looked up from the computer to acknowledge I was in the room. Now, I am just waiting on the doctor to write the prescription so that I can pick it up. I will stop by the office on my way home from work. After 3 weeks of waiting, it should be done... I would have given 3 stars if they had called me to let me know... or attempted to contact me in ANY way. 4 stars if they did that AND my prescription was ready to pick up. The office staff put me on hold and asked me to wait. The phone would ring back to the receptionist 3-5 times and I would hear a click, then hold music. I waited on the line for 9 minutes before they hung up the phone on me. This isn't the first time I have experienced poor customer service from your Ashburn staff. I'm not so sure how I feel about this place. I'm a patient of Dr. Connolly's. I'm not there too often due to the fact that I am blessed with a pretty decent immune system. The couple of times I have gone here, I can recall walking out of there feeling like I wanted to go get a second opinion. Last year, the day after Christmas, I had come down with something nasty. I was throwing up, I couldn't move, my head felt like it weighed 100 pounds, etc. My sister who I live with had contracted a mild case of H1N1 and had similar symptoms. She was diagnosed at their office, BTW about 2 weeks before I got sick. So it was reasonable enough for me to think I may have gotten it too, right? So I drag my happy ass in there a couple of days later and immediately the nurse practitioner or whatever starts talking to me like I'm the village idiot. She tells me that I have a cold. A cold! Really? I'm pretty sure you don't throw up from a cold. I've had colds and I know what they feel like. Can I see your degree? Did you get it from the University of Crappy Doctors? She wouldn't prescribe me Tamiflu, which is what my sister had been taking to relieve her symptoms. Instead, I was told to take Tylenol. 2 weeks later, I was fine. Just like my sister. HMMM. My whole family has had similar experiences there. It seems like some of the doctors JUST made it through med school. I'm not too thrilled. The plus side though...they have a walk-in urgent care at night. It's nice to walk in and get a shot like I did today to complete my immunization records for grad school. Except for AFTER I got my shot, I was told that I had a tetanus shot on Jan 1, 2004. That's funny, because my prior medical records state that it was August 2000, which is why I'm back 10 years later. WTF did you do with my medical records? If it weren't for GMU, I wouldn't have known that I needed a tetanus shot for another 4 years. What if I stepped on a nail or something? I think I'll stick to the apple a day regime. read more

There are four locations of this medical group...in Ashburn, Leesburg, Sterling and Warrenton. I've been to the one in Ashburn which is relatively new. A spa is also affiliated with the office in Ashburn. It's sort of East meets West in the approach to medicine. They also have urgent care service at the Ashburn office. The decor is calming and relaxing to be in...and everyone from the receptionists, nursing staff to the doctors are polite, professional and responsive. New patients can download forms to fill out and carry them with you so that you don't have to search your mind for phone numbers of former doctors, etc. When you get bloodwork done, they give you an automated number you can call to get your results and your results are in your "mailbox" for 14 days after. I liked my doctor, Dr. Noelle. He was polite, funny and knowledgable. If you are looking for a new approach to your general healthcare...this is the place! read more

I recently had the opportunity to try their services as a new patient. The intake process was pretty smooth, and the receptionist was very helpful and efficient. I had no trouble getting an appointment the same day via the phone and they offer a patient portal for subsequent appointments and prescription refills. My visit was accomplished in less than 20 minutes. Before I can finish my initial paperwork, I was already in a room taking my vitals, assigned an exam room and the doctor was seeing me going through our assessment. Being a medical professional myself, I am pretty aware of my condition and needs so we had a very smooth session. My prescription was filled out, and I left with what I needed quickly. One glitch however to the session is that my doctor miswrote my dosage frequency and I had to come quickly back to get it corrected. A nurse case manager assisted me and I was able to get the prescription corrected and sent to my mail order pharmacy. I did followup subsequently on the phone because the incorrect dosage frequency went to the pharmacy despite my second visit but it did get corrected on the second try. No huge issue since I went ahead of my script expiring. I switched my primary care manager after my Tricare PCM had departed from the new Walter Reed hospital and to be closer to my home. The facility is very pleasant, I had no waiting the two times I visited and get a competent person on the phone every time. After working in hospital settings for twenty years and having been on that side of the door, I can appreciate a well run clinic. I think most will not be disappointed but medical issues and experiences are very hard to evaluate and rate so please understand that this is my account of my experience and your experience may not result in the same way. read more

I've been going here for years, but I think I'm done. Initially this practice was great - you could get an appointment anytime, be seen quickly, have nice and friendly people help you out, and have a decent doctor experience. Lately though, it's gotten worse and worse there. Don't bother showing up on time for your appointment. You'll wait a minimum of 30 minutes to be seen if you're lucky. The last time I was there it was an hour and 15 minutes, of that, an hour was in the actual exam room just waiting and waiting without so much as a peep from a nurse to tell me the doctor was running late. Calling to make an appointment is just as aggravating. Waiting ten minutes on hold to be told there are no appointments for days is not fun. Every doctor I've seen in the last 2 years has left the practice so I never get the same doctor twice. You have to be seen for EVERYTHING. Don't bother calling to ask for a prescription refill or a referral because they'll make you come in and charge you a copay for it. Each doctor seems to be less and less enthusiastic to work there and the last one I saw complained about how she's always running behind. There is no separation of their urgent care and their regular care so if too many urgent care walk-ins show up, you'll suffer for it despite having had an appointment for weeks. The staff never smiles and is never friendly, but I'm starting to see why. I guess it's time for me to find a new office. read more

I've never been here before, so this was my first interaction. I was in a lot of pain, as I've neck problems for most of my life. Anyways, made an appointment over the phone on March 28th, 2019 and was given an appointment date of April 3rd, 2019 @3:30PM. Guess what happened when I showed up? There was no appointment and the woman looked at me like I was dumb. I called the phone number again that I had used to setup the appointment, asked for a manager, was put on hold for a few minutes then the same person came back to the phone, which was frustrating as I had specifically asked for a manager. After pushing the woman to get me a manager, one finally got on the line and she informed us that they record all phone calls and would find the recording and call me back. She called me back and confirmed that we did make the appointment but the person on the other end didn't push the last confirm button on her computer. Guess what they could do for us to rectify the situation? Nothing. They offered me an appointment another week out. No thanks. read more

Of the various locations, I have found the Ashburn office to be the one that runs closer to a reasonable schedule and more pleasant all around than the Leesburg office where I typically go. My children love Dr. Noel (we call him Dr Chicken Little because he blows up the exam gloves and then draws faces that look like Chicken Little). He's kind and reasonable and does not overreact or order unnecessary tests. Mixed results with Nova Medical Group. They were great when I had a need for their Urgent Care services but fell short when I scheduled an appointment for a full physical. There was some sort of confusion and my appointment was rescheduled. No one at the office called to notify me in advance. Thankfully I called this morning prior to my appointment and questioned what looked like a typo in my email appointment confirmation. Sure enough it had been rescheduled without my knowledge. The representative I spoke with over the phone was pretty unapologetic for the situation. However, she did call me back with more details which I do give her credit. Do not have your blood work done at this location. I have now had two cases, where their phlebotomist was incapable of doing their job correctly. The latest case involved a young man, who when asked if he was experienced at drawing blood from the hand, said "no problem". I have always had issues with blood draws from the standard location being repeatedly unsuccessful. This young man, then proceed to dig around in the vein in my left hand with out success, and then ignoring me said it would be better higher up, which I declined. Then he arrogantly want to instruct me on how the process worked? As if 40 years of experience of blood draws I was totally ignorant. After I instructed him to find me a phlebotomist who knew what they were doing, he went out into the hall, and i could hear him through the paper thin walls making derisive comments about me. Honestly, I can't say I have anything bad to say about this place. They have a walk in clinic, which is amazing cause it's very convenient for my hectic schedule. Check in is pretty slow however. And the initial screening is a bit redundant. Now, completely disregard the last sentence if it's a requirement for the tech to go through everything in the medical history, but I just feel like its redundant for me to constantly answer "So you're allergic to peanuts.. and iodine? Okay, and you're still on [drug A], [drug B]?" and so on and so forth. They should just be able to ask if anything new has happened, if a patient has already been there a few times within the month. No need to relive every single aspect of my medical history, my psych unit stays, and my depression, if I'm in there for a headache. Anyway, the RN's are pretty cool and professional. **This rating is not for the medical group as a whole -- just the dermatology practice of Dr. Rodgers. Urgent care and nurse practitioners have been wonderful, in my experience.** My first visit to Dr. Rodgers last year involved sitting in a gown in a freezing cold exam room for 45 minutes until the doctor was ready to see me. Not ideal, but I understand things get backed up, especially in the afternoon. This time, I purposely made a morning appointment. Somehow, the waiting was worse. After waiting 45 minutes and being told it would be at least 45 more minutes because other patients needed procedures I left. I don't have 90+ minutes to wait around at a doctor's office when I've made an appointment in advance. I should have known when it was easy to schedule an appointment here but nowhere else. If you're running 1-2 hours behind CALL YOUR PATIENTS and give them the heads up and option to reschedule. Your time is not more valuable than everyone else's just because you have an M.D. after your name. read more

I had high hopes for this office, but I was pretty shocked at the treatment I received here. I loved Dr. Noelle and wasn't going to post my original letter to his office, but after STILL having problems with them, I feel like this is warranted. I apologize for the length of this review, but I hope that it might help someone avoid this horrible office. This is a list of most of what I went through: After my repeat CBC on 02.26.2013, I hadn't heard anything for a long period of time and called to check on the results. I spoke to the nurse and she gave me values identical to those in the first test. I thought it highly unlikely that my blood results would be identical and asked her to clarify which date the results were from. She was incredulous at the simple question and became belligerent fairly quickly. The fact is, she gave me the wrong information and refused to admit that she had misspoken. The point of the repeat was to check my iron levels, which she assured me were "fine". Over the course of a 20 minute long conversation, she never once apologized or admitted any mistake. I was just asking a logical question and was really confused as to how she managed to mess up a routine question about results and why she was so irate. A while later, I was tired of waiting for anyone to contact me with my results and attempted to file a formal complaint and request all of my records. I spoke to quite a few people, and was given more information about my repeat CBC and was told that I needed to come in for a third time for a special iron test that was supposed to be done with the repeat CBC but was forgotten. Despite the improved attitudes, I hit my limit of incompetence. I don't have extensive or complicated medical issues, but I still fell through the cracks. The conversation ended with many apologies and the promise that all of my records would be sent in the mail. Once again, I waited weeks and didn't receive anything. I called again on 04.04.2013 and was told that I needed to fill out an Authorization Request. That is information that should have been mentioned, but wasn't at all. I filled out and faxed the Sterling office the form the same day (04.04.2013) and called to verify that they had received it. I was told that the record requests are usually processed on Wednesdays and that I could come in any time after the next Wednesday, which was 04.11.2013, and that the records would be ready at $0.50 cents a page. On 04.16.2013, I physically stopped by the Sterling office to pick up my records and have my blood results addressed. They looked for my paperwork and said that they didn't have it and that if I didn't specify which office I was coming to, it automatically defaulted to the Ashburn office. I was stunned that even though I had called ahead and verified with the receptionist, my records were not there. Moreover, the woman took no responsibility and flatly said to go to the Ashburn office. I had never gone to any office besides the one in Sterling and I couldn't imagine that any office in 2013 would be so backwards as to not be able to access a patient's records or print them. Even so, having records at an office a patient has never visited is another crucial piece of information that was never conveyed to me. After leaving, I called the Ashburn office to verify. Speaking to the office manager, I was told that the records were not there and that all records are actually processed off site. Once again, every employee has a different story and no one has my records after nearly two months of getting the run-around. She told me to send them the Auth Request and they would mail me my results. I told her that I had indeed faxed it to the Sterling office two weeks prior and confirmed that they had received it, but she was adamant that I had never sent it to them. She told me to fill out the form and send it to them, and then they would send the records to the Sterling office. I went back to the Sterling office to let them in on what the plan was and fill out the necessary paperwork. I had updated my address before my first physical on 02.26.2013, but my records were still not updated. To keep with the theme of gross incompetence and poor customer service, the woman at the front desk was extremely rude. After two months of dealing with staff incapable of doing their jobs or knowing basic protocol, I filled out my forms and made sure she knew what the office manager had told me was their policy. She was 100% wrong, but decided to argue with me in a condescending and nasty tone. The fact that staff members I spoke to felt so comfortable being wrong and combative with patients only reinforced my desire to get far, far away from this poorly run practice. As soon as I got home from another argument, I had all of my records (including the Auth. that supposedly didn't exist) in the mail. There is no reason to go to this terrible place. read more

I agree with the "needing a second opinion" part. They are really there to push people through. My primary care Dr. (HN), has made more than a few mistakes upon further research. I took my daughter to the Urgent Care for an issue with her foot. We initially saw Dr. Nielsen (who is wonderful and help me with my back problem in Dec 2013), but was transferred to Dr. Bathaee as he is a foot specialist. There was a little wait, but Dr. Bathaee was very professional, courteous, and provided an explanation to every question. Dr. Bathaee also has an assistant named Kenyatta and she went above and beyond with assisting us with getting the proper equipment for my daughter's injury.
