Our project with Pierre Jean-Baptiste Interiors was a disaster. Pierre initially presented himself…read moreas polished and professional, so we were not at all prepared for the level of gross incompetence, and lack of communication and customer service we were about to experience. Custom mirrors and cushions, measured personally by Pierre, were sized incorrectly and had to be remade. Shelving and stacked wall stone were ordered in the incorrect sizes. Wallpaper, wall paneling, and marble tile were all ordered in insufficient quantities. A number of items arrived damaged or incorrect from their warehouse. Citing his cost to repair or replace these items (some of which we paid additional for), Pierre then reneged on several other promises made to us, which we felt was unprofessional and punitive. He was not transparent with his pricing, refusing to provide itemized costs for budget items, and in one instance, charged us tax and freight on materials we never received. We could go on and on. Instead of taking responsibility for project issues, Pierre blamed us, claiming our project had "negative energy". It would take too long to catalog all of the problems on this project -- we've lost many nights of sleep doing just that. When we tried to respectfully and professionally communicate our concerns to Pierre, he became condescending and defensive. Time and again, we were told "you just have to trust me". He took every opportunity to show us how little we and our project meant to him, even though we paid him over $60,000. We were actually scolded like children for asking questions and emailing "outside of business hours" (is that a thing?). He berated us on several occasions, which upset us to the point of tears. At one point, Pierre told my husband that they should just "let the men deal with this" because they would be "less emotional" about the project, something we found extremely offensive and sexist. And we were not the only targets of this mistreatment. Every subcontractor and vendor we interacted with (we were forced to solve many issues with vendors ourselves) griped about Pierre, and many told us that our issues echoed other customer complaints about him. Pierre showed incredible disrespect toward our general contractor, and even toward the carpenter he himself hired to build our custom living room cabinetry - so much so, that the carpenter blocked Pierre on his phone and nearly walked off the job entirely - we had to sweet-talk him and pay him extra to finish the job after promising to cut all ties with Pierre. Unfortunately, by that time, he had already prioritized other projects, and our work was delayed another two months. Indeed, we are writing this having just completed the project scope well over a year after engaging Pierre's services. Since Pierre makes you pay 90% of the project budget upfront, we had no choice but to endure all of this. Just be aware what you will be signing up for if you do the same. We would not be surprised if Pierre responds to this by refuting our claims or attacking us one more time, but we felt compelled to write an honest review to help prevent others from going through what we did, and maybe to help PJBI rethink the way they do business.
