Great way to take a nice ride and see Boston Harbor on a budget! Enjoyable short ride from Charlestown to Long Wharf/Aqurium. Unfortunately, they stopped taking the Charlie card (even if their site said differently), so we had to pay separately for the rides. Cheap, but it's annoying to think the card will work but it doesn't anymore. Didn't help that the staff was rude. There were other people upset they couldn't use the card! Otherwise, nice boat, kind fellow passengers and nice views! read more

Inner Harbor Ferry runs between Charlestown Navy Yard and the Aquarium every 15 -30min depending on the time of the day. This was my first time taking the ferry, and I really enjoyed the 10 minute ride: it was relaxin,g and the view was amazing. MBTA CharlieCard works on the ferry too which is nice. read more

I take this ferry frequently and it's usually a thoroughly pleasant experience. But today, 10/06/24 on both the 12:15 Charlestown to Long Wharf boat and the 2:30 Long Wharf to Charlestown boat, the trip was ruined by the crew member on the PA system who WOULD. NOT. SHUT. UP! I understand that certain announcements about life jackets and whatnot are necessary but, like I said, I've taken this ferry for years and I've never had a trip marred by ceaseless yakking on the PA. Please track down this crew member and tell him if he wants to blabber on a PA to get a job on the Duck Boats. read more

The ferry between the New England Aquarium and the Navy Yard is a great value! When the whale watch tours, the trolleys, and the duck tours are sold out, few people know that they can still go out on the water for just about $3 per person. Plus it's a great way to get to the USS Constitution, especially for tourists who don't want to navigate all the way through Charlestown to get there. The folks who run the ferry are polite and helpful. In my experience, it was a quiet trip. I believe they may sell snacks and have a restroom on board but the trip is short enough not to have to rely on that. read more

The Navy Yard Ferry/ F4 is a great way for residents and visitors of the Navy Yard and Charlestown to travel by water to downtown Boston and back. It's about a 15 minute ride between the Aquarium and a pier in the center of the Navy Yard. I took my niece on the Ferry and she loved it. It also provides some great photo and views of the Harbor and Boston. There are plans to discontinue the service so try to get onboard soon if you can. It might be a lost to budget cuts by the MBTA. There are a few groups trying to save it and you can find them online if you google it. Luckily it looks like they are going to keep the service. So if you are interested in checking out the harbor by boat try to take the ferry when you can! read more

Yes, I am the cheap traveler. I'm also not a huge fan of touristy cruises - they're often boring, expensive, and well, just too touristy. However, when I read about a cheap or free cruise, then you've got my attention. Sometimes, it's just nice to be out on the water and look back from a boat and take a glimpse of the city shrinking behind you. Additionally, when you're walking and walking and walking, at some point, a chair or just any place to sit becomes your best friend. There's nothing like have a spot to vegetate after you've been walking for hours. Enter Inner Harbor Ferry. I did some quick research prior - rides are $3.25 one way. Note - if you purchased an MBTA all day (or 7 day) pass, you're covered for rides. As a tourist, I had purchased the all day pass, so rode the ferry for "free". Woot. It goes between the Charleston Navy Yard (near USS Constitution and also walking distance to Bunker Hill Monument) and Long Wharf (somewhat close to Faneuil Hall). It's actually a very quick 10 minute ride. The dock at Long Wharf is quite close to the Marriott hotel and is the one that sits closest to Old Atlantic Avenue. I believe the ferry runs every 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the time of day. We were actually quite confused as we were the ONLY people waiting for this ferry at Long Wharf (vs. lines at the more costly tourist boats) - we questioned if it was running that day. But lo and behold, the ferry showed up. It's your standard two story ferry - bottom deck is enclosed (aka warm and shielded from the elements). There is also a tiny snack bar area. The top deck is open (aka possibly cold and windy with a nice view) and doesn't have any fixed chairs. What they have are a bunch of plastic patio chairs that you can move around. This boat isn't anything fancy - just enough to get you from point A to point B. They let you come on board and I believe you pay your fare on the boat (they check you as you're either boarding or de-boarding). The views were nice - not spectacular, but nice. I wished I had a chance to go around sunset, but timing just didn't work out that way. The dock at the Charleston Navy Yard will take you pretty close to the USS Constitution - very quick walk from there and about a 10 to 15 minute walk to Bunker Hill Monument (be prepared for some very mild inclines on your walk there). Overall, if you're on a budget and still want to get that quick ferry "tour", Inner Harbor Ferry might be for you. It's also an alternative transportation option if you're looking to get to the USS Constitution or the Bunker Hill Monument from Boston main. read more

Scratch those $40 Harbor Cruises. They last far too long, are crowded, and drinks are expensive. Instead, flash your LinkPass (or pay the $1.70) and board the Inner Harbor Ferry from Boston to Charlestown. Enjoy the magnificent view of the Boston Skyline while you ford the high seas and disembark at the Charlestown Navy Yard. This ferry is worth it just for the ride, even if you have no business in C-town. The ferry runs constantly, so you should have no problem hitching a ride. read more

No doubt about it. One of the best ways to see the harbor and city. The views from the water are beautiful. I recommend traveling on the ferry from Long Wharf (by the Aquarium) to the Navy Yard (Charlestown). Or vice versa. This way you're sure to experience a short, pleasant boat ride of about 10-15 minutes and get dropped off right by the USS Constitution. It comes every 30 minutes to each dock and even more often during rush hour. It stops running at about 8 PM though, so plan accordingly. read more

We took this ferry because we wanted to across the island after some walk from freedom trail and this is the easiest and fastest. The trip was short, the ferry was decent size ,the view was great . Price: $1.70, cannot be used with charlie ticket. Two years ago I was buying a ticket for the ferry but when the cashier was returning my change, which was $10, the money was taken by the wind and flew into the ocean. This has got to be the best way to sight see along the Boston water line. For $1.70, you can take a leisurely 10 minute ride from the Charlestown Navy Yard all the way to Long Wharf. On one side, you get a lovely view of Boston, and on the other side, you get a nice view of some other stuff that might be hotels, might be apartments, or maybe just warehouses. Also, your feet get a rest from walking, and if you go on weekends, you're pretty much guaranteed a comfy seat in the squishy chairs. read more

We took the ferry to Charlestown Navy Yard to see the tall ships. What an awesome ride! You get a nice view when you leave Long Wharf and when you return. The ride is so smooth you almost forget you are on a boat. You also can sit outside if you desire or go inside. For 7 dollar roundtrip you can't beat it. If you want to see the USS Constitution or the Navy Yard this is the way to do it! read more

I visited Boston for the first time this past weekend. It was hotter than blazes, and after walking around in the heat and humidity all day Saturday and Sunday, it was a joy to head to the harbor and take in the cooling ocean breeze. Lucky for me one of my BFFs lives in Boston and knew about this great hidden gem. For a mere $3 each way one can take a 15 minute cruise through the harbor. It runs from the Charlestown Navy Yard to Downtown Boston (right by the aquarium) and back everyday. I think the fare is lower during the non-tourist season. As a bonus, parking is FREE on Sunday's, so one can save a bundle of cash by parking up by the Navy Yard and ferrying it in to downtown. As they say in Boston, it's wicked cool! read more

The best, most economic and most scenic way to get from downtown to Charlestown Navy Yard. For $3 each you ride across the harbor and get to take in all the sights. Get out tour the USS Constitution area and then hop back aboard for another great trip back to town. Quick, fun and easy. The only drawback was that it was a bit difficult to locate the downtown harbor entry. The Inner Harbor Ferry was among all the high dollar private cruisers with no sign. A helpful local pointed us in the right direction. read more
