    Ernesto's Pizza, North End

Went on the Historic North End Pizza Tour with "Big Al" as our tour guide. Had a fantastic tasty experience eating pizza from Umbertos, Regina's and Ernesto's while finishing up with a cannoli from Modern Pasty!!! Big Al told some great stories, had lots of historical facts and told them in a way that our group could relate and have fun with. He was professional and lots of fun!! All the slices were delicious as well as the sweet treat! We were offered water, given bathroom breaks and just had an overall great family afternoon ! Would definitely recommend

This was the only tour we did while we were in Boston and it was a blast. If you are more interested in lots of history this tour is not for you, but if you'd like to learn a little and eat a lot this is totally for you! Out of the three pizza places we went to two were absolutely spectacular and worth the money I paid for the tour. The second place we went to was one of the 1000 degree chain places and I was genuinely not pleased. I can get that pizza anywhere and was hoping for pizzas that were authentic to the city of Boston. I was also confused about the drinks that were included. On the pizza tour website it said that two drinks were included and only one was. However overall we had a blast, would highly recommend it to any foodie, and loved meeting people from all over the world in our group.

A weekend in Boston meant getting in as much of the city, history, culture and eats as we could. Found this tour through Plum Benefits and scored on the price. The only downside (& I'll start with that but end on a positive...promise) was that the city was playing host to Boston Pride ‍which meant traffic and road closures. We took an uber from the South End to the North End meeting spot but we arrived 10 minutes late and the tour had left without us. Determination and perseverance along with asking every large group if "they were the Pizza Tour?" Guess what... we found them! Having only missed the first Pizza stop (& there were 3 along our tour) we managed to get in some history, see some of the oldest buildings in Boston, learn about the local Italian eateries in the area and on our second stop, Regina's Pizza. Our tour guide was so gracious to provide us with a personal pizza to make up for the first stop we missed. If you are planning to make a trip to Bean Town and you're a foodie AND history buff.... this is the tour for you!

She brought the neighborhood to life with fascinating facts, local lore, and unforgettable bites from hidden gems we would've never found on our own. We were so lucky to be the only two people who kept our reservation despite the rain, and honestly? It made the experience even more magical. Paula customized the tour to our pace and preferences, and it felt like we were exploring with a friend who knows everything about the area. One unforgettable stop was Ristorante Saraceno, where we met Franco--the owner--who is an absolute joy to interact with. His warm hospitality, legendary food, and impeccable service made us feel right at home. Buon appetito, indeed! I've done food tours in several cities, but this was hands down the best one yet. From the cozy mom-and-pop spots to the authentic flavors and stories, it was a feast for all the senses. You can genuinely feel Paula's passion for this historic neighborhood and its people. Now this tour may not be for everyone, as the title of the tour alludes to.. but if you don't mind the random swear word and aren't easily offended, you'll be like me... cracking up for 3 hours straight. And there was one thing I noticed about Anthony that he doesn't advertise, and may try to track me down for saying on here.... But beneath the gruff exterior was the sweetest guy that seemed genuinely interested in sharing his culture, stories, and amazing food with everyone! We started off at a pizza joint where we got a slice of pizza and an arancini ball. I expected the pizza to be good... and it was fantastic. But I am not a huge fan of arancini and this one had peas in it... also something I am not a huge fan.... But hey, I was on a food tour so I was going to try everything! Thank goodness I did, because this arancini was the stuff of dreams. How in the world could something be THAT much better than what high end Italian restaurants advertise? The last time I had an arancini ball was at a restaurant in Hawaii that won "best Italian food in Hawaii".... And it was only so-so. This arancini ball would make me fly 5,000 just to eat it again! Next up was a deli sub, a coffee shop, ravioli, a pastry shop and lastly an affogato (or gelato if you didn't want coffee that late in the day). Based on the food I received, before factoring in all the stories that Anthony shared, I feel the tour was really underpriced. I wish I hadn't done this the tour on my last day, I would have gone back for another round of everything we tried, as well as everything that was recommended. Heck I may have signed up for the tour again just to experience it all over again!

When I took my kids on the tour in 2019, I was so impressed with the professionalism of the attendants who help out beforehand. They were all wearing khakis, had their shirts tucked in, and there were no phones in sight. I remember one lovely young man who was wearing a Vineyard Vines belt and my son was obsessed with it, and he graciously told me what the print was called and I was able to purchase it for him for Christmas that year. This time around, it was shocking to me how opposite our experience was pre-tour. I recall in 2019 receiving a warm welcome walking up to the boarding location, but not this time. They were all huddled in a pile by the umbrella, and no one greeted us. I approached an employee who identified himself as a driver and instead pointed me to an attendant who could "better assist". When I asked which boat to board, we were rudely told to "Just wait here until we announce it", which felt like a big departure from the friendliness of a few years ago. The attendants themselves just looked messy, and it seems the standards went down significantly. We had so much fun on the tour itself, but the end to end of an experience is really what makes or breaks it, and the bad customer service before boarding left a sour taste in our mouths.
