We stayed at this wonderful place on May 10th. I have read some of the other reviews, and I wanted to take some time to tell of our experience and the wonderful customer service that we received from Nadia and the entire staff at the Inn at the Wharf. Let's start with check-in. We arrived in the afternoon/early evening and were greeted instantly. They had everything ready to go, and we were checked in and in the unit within a few minutes. We stayed in the Cliffside (I have slept since then, but it was a bottom-floor room on the ocean, and was Cliff something if I am wrong). The restaurant was closed that evening (we came during off season), and we were directed to a local restaurant (Review is already in for the Water Street Tavern and Inn. Our unit was spotless and had all of the necessities. We did not try the TV (as we were not there to watch it, to enjoy the scenery and time), but the unit was cute. It had a bed, table, chairs for eating, a microwave, TV, coffee machine, two chairs, and deck chairs. It was perfect for our short stay. The bathroom was large with two sinks and a shower/tub combo. We did not really hear anyone, but again, we are in the off-season. The bed was not the most comfortable, but it was not horrible either. There were no issues with temperatures, and the sliding door to the deck was perfect for viewing the sunrise at 5 a.m.! Unfortunately, I left my Apple Watch and only remember hours after we had left. We could not turn around, so I called and eventually spoke with Nadia. She was extremely kind on the phone and in demeanor, and helped tremendously in ensuring I got my item back. Nadia was fantastic in ensuring my item was found and mailing it back to me just a few hours after my call! She provided excellent customer service and did it all with a smile I could feel on the phone. , We also ate breakfast at the Inn at the Wharf before leaving, but it was Mother's Day, and there were not many restaurants in town that served a Mother's Day breakfast. The food was terrific, but we knew that time would be an issue, so we are not stating anything about time. I had the blueberry pancakes and they were terrific. Customer service was excellent, and the place was full! PROS: Views for miles, sunrises that you simply die for Not connected to the main hotel, so feels like an apartment/condo Lots of space on the front deck to sit and view the ocean Local grocery store, no issues finding what we needed Local chocolate shop, Monica's, was great,t and Monica was super sweet CONS: Small town (which is not really a con, but can be if you are looking for activities) Parking is tight read more

(1.5 stars if you disregard the view/balcony) If you DO have come, be prepared with... -Ant traps ( 5+ ants so far after just 4 hours). - Your own 50"+ TV(s) for the bedroom/living area with a device to connect them to. -Earplugs (the upstairs sounds like ghosts in clogs in your room). ** I wish I could take video to show you what's happening upstairs.. somebody is walking back & forth in some kind of nazi-army-march for the past 15 minutes. And I can hear every foreign word they're yelling through the ceiling very clearly.) -Food to cook. (Between October & June the only food option for 37 miles is Dollar General. Also* your own timer/stopwatch because the range/oven in this unit does not make noise. No beeps.) -coffee cups ( The dishes & silverware are a collection of random items left behind by guests). Vincent or Victor? The older guy at the office was very attentive and helpful. 4.5 stars to him for sure. Bottom line. If you are old school and just here for the ocean and need nothing else , it will probably be good for you. The Wharf used to be a nice place to stay but since they have sold the motel it is not such a good experience. The views are all it has going for it. The bed was two twins pushed together and was so uncomfortable. The motel room was next to room where laundry was being done. The workers showed up at 5:00 AM and stood on the balcony for hours with incessant loud yapping and it continued every day until 11:00 PM. The food in the restaurant was horrible and the waiter could not even take a simple breakfast order correctly (the famous potatoes are just sliced up potatoes). Not sure I would stay there again. I was exhausted by the time we left. Campobello has beautiful private areas on the ocean that you can wake up to for the same price and customs are very friendly. Not the same pleasant motel we have stayed at numerous times in the past. Sad. read more

We stayed just outside of Lubec for a week in August 2023 and ate here three different times. It was that good. There are four different chowders or "stews" to choose from. We had the Seafood Stew and the Haddock Stew. Both were full of seafood, rich and creamy. The Lobster Roll has a nice seasoning, the coleslaw needs a little more acid. Fries are quite good. The showstopper for us was the Steamed Lobster Pot Dinner, which we got with one pound of Mussels. One pound of perfectly steamed lobster, mussles, corn on the cob, potato and cole slaw for $30. We finished with blueberry pie and ice cream, which was the best I will ever eat. Just get this pie and share it even if you're full. You're in Maine, it's summer and blueberries. The third time we ate there, we ordered the Crabcake (not the sandwich, just the Crabcake). It comes on a plate with some tartar sauce. It's Peekytoe Crab and I almost cried. This was delicate, slightly sweet, sea-salty perfection. Nothing but crab. And flavor. The view from the back deck cannot be beat. The local beers were very good- we enjoyed the Johnson's IPA and the heartier Bailey's Mistake. Service all three times was very friendly and efficient. Can't recommend it enough. read more

Review of The Inn On The Wharf Reviewed yesterday Beautiful view out my door, but i had a few challenges. I told the hotel twice that I would be arriving late, after 8pm. Nadia said she'd leave my room open. I arrived at 8:45 pm & was locked out. It was cold and very dark. I was very disappointed. The floors above me are definitely hard floors with no insulation, sounds like people are clog dancing up there and I can even hear the people upstairs talking. Doesn't make for a peaceful stay. After a day of touring, I was tired and wanted to watch a show. The TV wasn't working. I called the hotel at 5pm. I really thought they would send someone down to troubleshoot for me, as is usual and customary. Not only did she tell me there's no one on site (now I feel unsafe as well as feeling that the customer service is less than desirable, ) but she said, "Welcome to Lubec," in a sarcastic tone. I told her I was giving up, she told me that she was trying to help. I let her know that her comment wasn't helpful. Not only is the customer service lacking, but cleaning and maintenance leaves a bit to be desired. The plastic blinds are broken, people can see into my room and the cleaning person has obviously never cleaned behind the bathroom door. The towels are dingy and I wouldn't use one of the washcloths as it felt stiff like it was used. But the view was stellar. read more

Can't give this place enough stars! To be fair the room is average: bed was comfortable, bathroom easily usable, surprised yet happy there was no TV. Nothing I'd call spectacular on its own but when you look out the window: WOW! We didn't have a room with a balcony but the three large windows point toward an inlet from the ocean. The restaurant shares similar views and the dinner menu was amazing. Breakfast was just that, breakfast, nothing too out of the ordinary, I'm sorry now we weren't here to try lunch. If you're looking for a posh hotel with indoor pool and large screen tv, try somewhere else. If you want an amazing experience with great food, very comfortable room and breathtaking views of nature and the surroundings then you most likely won't find a better place. I have had many meals here but like many post Covid restaurants this place is understaffed and poorly managed. There are very long wait times with no coordination of service. Dirty tables sat dirty while lines of people waited to be seated. Wait staff seemed unsure which tables they were supposed to be waiting on. The length of time for food to be served was almost an hour and a half. This is a wonderful location but there is no effective management and is totally disorganized. They need to get their act together. The seafood is good but much of the seafood in Maine is good. The chaos of the place made our dining experience less than enjoyable. read more

First off if I could give 5 stars for the view alone I would...nothing comparable and pictures don't do it justice. The room was fine, but oh my gosh the noise from above was crazy! When I booked the room I thought we'd be upstairs, but I was wrong. The "room" above us was actually a whole house and sleeps multiple people...we could hear everything. In addition to hearing EVERY footstep, chair move and drawer pull and toilet seat slam, the creaking of the floors just topped it off. No, the people weren't partying or being overly loud or were a few different guest groups while we were there that came and went...just super thin walls and floor. Poor design. What worse than being on bottom floor of an apartment. I'd gladly stay there again, but definitely in a different a room. read more

From my point of view, the draw here is the incredible view from virtually every table. It is a plain, very small restaurant, and when we visited it was the only game in town. The menu was extremely limited due to the time of year. There was only one waitress, and she was harried and rightfully so. Not much else to say about that. The food is overpriced and average. The chowders have a tasty soup base but they are mostly potatoes with limited amounts of seafood. The fish and chips were pretty good but a bit on the greasy side. There is a basic selection of beer and wine though the waitress didn't know anything about them. I will admit that they serve a very decent size glass of wine! Can't beat this location! Check-in and the restaurant, Fisherman's Wharf, is located in the former sardine factory. The rooms are located among three single family homes further up the hill, all facing the ocean with a great view of the islands and Canada. The room was decent for the price; it's been updated, with just a few issues such as no TV, no coffee cups, and then the coffeemaker didn't work. The shower was nice though, and I'm glad the heater worked because we came during a chilly time! This area is probably super nice during the summer. read more

We ate here 8/3. Beautiful views sitting on the deck for lunch. Wish i could say the food was a good as the views but it wasn't. I had the crab cake sandwich. It was mostly all crab with a little bit of bread crumbs to hold together (which it didn't), no spices, no flavor and was very mushy. The sweet potato fries were awesome-crispy. My wifes clam chowder was very good. Her chicken breast sandwich was well done, no flavor. Very expensive for poor food. Glad the views were awesome.The server was good. read more

Room in the factory was beautiful! Overnight stay was great. BUT Restaurant was awful. We were there on a Wednesday night, went in at 7:05 ; no tables available and no list. We were told 1st come seating but no one on charge to determine who in line or who at the 5 stool bar was next. If the waitress you spoke with had a clean table she told you to sit there even if others were waiting before you!$!$! Lots of waitstaff so that was good for ordering. We ordered lobster dinner-nothing fancy, and it finally was served at 8:40! (Photo stamp time doesn't lie). Our waitress must have been at the right place because she served us but we realized the table next to us who ordered lobster well before us still hadn't rec'vd theirs so we passed ours over to them. Would have walked out but other spots in town were not open. Someone got up and said they were going to the IGA to grab cheese sandwiches. The worst part----no one in charge seemed to care ! The Inn at the Wharf (IatW) is a unique place -- it sits on the water's edge in a converted sardine cannery. My room (Sea Glass) was fresh and modern. It had a small balcony that overlooked a working dock and the sea. The bed was comfortable and had a nice thick comforter. As stated on their website, the IatW is right next to a working dock, complete with dock/ocean smells and sounds. I think this gives the place character, but I assume everyone may not appreciate it! I didn't find the dock to be annoying at all. I naturally wake early, and the super-early sunrise at this latitude (in June), prompted even waking earlier. I don't know when (or if) the dock got noisy because I was up and gone before I heard anything. By the way, the rooms, nor the common area, do not have TVs. read more

Our first night here, I thought we died & went to heaven, large room, with a sitting area looking out into the Bay, 20' from the water! Clean room, very friendly at check in, even let us check in early. Great Views, right on a working dock, fresh lobsters daily. The downside, their is a community room, located in the center of the inn (with a kitchen, tables, couches etc) the second night we were here, there was a group of people in this area & it was LOUD, when we where trying to go to sleep, this was a real downside. I would definitely come back here, but would get a room, far away from the center read more

This place has amazing views. The apartment we rented was a joke. They say they clean thoroughly but everything was dirty and grimy.I had to wash all dishes to use them. My husband had to clean the sliders just to see the view. The noise is ridiculous!!! You couldn't walk on the wood floors barefoot without making a racket and it sounded like there were a couple elephants upstairs. We were woken up at 4 a.m. with people outside our bedroom talking. The restaurant is ok but understaffed. The waitresses did an excellent job trying their best to accommodate everyone. couldnt wait to leave and will never stay here again. read more

If one could think of the perfect little getaway spot on the coast of Maine, this is it. Nice, clean and modern rooms, absolutely breathtaking sunsets over the bay, and likely the best restaurant in town. And the best part is, it all comes at a price that won't break the bank. Unusual for a hotel, there didn't seem to be any televisions on the premises. Not in the guest rooms, the common areas nor the restaurant. And yet, we didn't even notice this until two days into our stay, due to the incredible natural beauty all around, and all of the fun things to do outside in the area. This is a place where you rise with the sunrise and fall with the sunset. You watch the tides rise and fall (26 feet!!!); you let the friendly biker chef fix you some steel cut organic oatmeal for breakfast that you forget you ordered as you stare across the bay while sipping your coffee. It's a place where you order the freshest of the fresh lobster for dinner (seriously, the lower level of this place is an actual working wharf, and they get first crack at the best catch); it is a place where you watch sunsets that are so amazing that no sunset will ever compare again. Even if you are staying elsewhere in Lubec, the restaurant is worth a visit. We tried a few other places in town and found nothing else compared for breakfast or dinner. read more

Beautiful setting on one of the Eastern most points in the US along the coast. Incredible peaceful setting on the Atlantic side, bayview. Quiet small rustic seaside town, view of fishing boats, sitting on the deck at night listening to the waves, watching the lights on boats.nice restaurants, limited in choices but the food is great. Ok. This is a darling, small town - so small it has about three streets. You cannot conceive of what small town life is until you visit Lubec. It's darling, it's adorable. As for the Inn - it's one of the few options in this teeny hamlet. A brilliant concept, redoing the old cannery as a hotel. You cannot find lodging on the waterfront in other areas of Maine this affordably. For the view, the price, and the location this place is a solid bet. So why three stars? We had to book a room with two beds, as we had three adults traveling. This room wound up being one of the few without a deck or balcony - which I could live with as the view was still so lovely - but this room also backed directly up to the kitchen of the attached restaurant. It was LOUD. Beyond that, the stairs to the back of the kitchen and the deck of the restaurant were literally outside the windows. I woke one morning to a whiskey-contralto-voiced woman screaming into my window about "YOU GOT MY LOBSTAH!?" as she smoked a cigarette. When it wasn't her yelling at dock workers, it was other people coming and going with a direct view into our room. It was jarring to wake up and see men RIGHT THERE. Due to the smoking of the employees out back, we had to keep the windows shut. I also had to leave the blinds closed to keep prying eyes out. I am appalled that we paid the standard-rate for a room with no privacy and such noise, not to mention the second hand smoke despite the Inn being "non-smoking." The wifi works fairly well, considering the location. I wouldn't knock off any stars for spotty coverage in this area! The rooms are sparse, no real decor, just the bare necessities. The beds are squeaky and firm, but the blankets are warm. No tvs, no phones, no interruptions, no frills. The ladies at the front desk were darling, no issues with staff, aside from the kitchen worker smoking outside of our room starting at sunrise. It's a safe bet to stay here, but don't expect a lot aside from a great view for great value. Again, it's spartan at best in its lodging, and beware rooms attached to the kitchen. Waited fifty minutes for someone to take our order. One waitress gave us menus and said she would return to wipe off the table. Instead, she took orders from several customers who came in after we did. When we were finally served, we could not eat because of no it utensils. I ordered a spinach salad with crab meat. The crab did not arrive until after I finished the salad. I also ordered clam chowder but they were out. No one ever wiped the table before serving us our food. read more

Ok I'm giving this 4 stars overall but I need to break it down into the hotel and restaurant because I'm not sure which I'd be reviewing otherwise. Hotel: A hard 5 stars here. We had a one bedroom that had its own deck overlooking the water. It had a small table with two chairs as well as two reclining loungers. But who cares about the chairs! The view was amazing! Sunset was incredible and we were there for the 4th so we got to see a pretty good fireworks show right from our deck. The room was small but clean. Terrific value for the price. Restaurant: 3 stars. The food was pretty good but the overall management of this place is a train wreck! We ate dinner and breakfast here. They were out of several things. No one knew if they had more of anything or where it would be. The kitchen was short staffed and it took a long time for our breakfast. But the staff was pleasant and apologetic and once we received the food it was good. read more

From the start, the owners were helpful and accommodating. Our family went during the off season so the restaurant was not open. We stayed in the Ocean Loft: middle house, top floor with its own private balcony. The spectacular view faces north but you still get a beautiful sunrise and sunset, plus the minimal light pollution lets you see the stars. The room itself was a dream! Styled like a fancy studio apartment, the king sized bed felt like brand new mattresses, the comfortable lounge chairs faced a small t.v. that did not block the view, the table had enough room for our family of 4 plus my mother in law (who stayed in "Smuggler"), a little couch type seat that did open up to a small bed for a child to sleep on, extra linens in the walk-in closet with 2 air mattresses, good size bathroom that had a lot of updated features, galley style kitchen with a full, new, flat top stove, apartment size fridge (not a mini fridge), updated features as well. My only complaint would be that there was no pan for baking! There were some dishes, utensils, pots and pans, and a means to wash them. We came prepared to cook using only a microwave so we did buy some food to cook breakfast. The whole feel was that we just moved in to a new apartment on the coast. We want to come back at the end of the summer, but I feel like we got spoiled with our room and no other room will do! read more

Visited in Early-Mid September. Cute Inn and great views, small coastal town vibes. Would love to see more things open around town but I understand during these times. Felt that the bathroom could've been a little cleaner. In the evening it would be nice to relax with a little TV but there aren't any in the rooms (except 4 of the suites). It was getting dark by 7pm and unfortunately you can't enjoy the views any longer so bring some entertainment or grab your favorite drink to sip and enjoy the sounds. read more

We rode our motorcycles up, had tremendous weather, a great place with an incredibly beautiful view looking across the bay at the boats and islands in Canada, we had lunch which was good my wife had clams i had cheeseburger, only wished we were staying the night. This place is a gem. Our room had an incredible view of the bay. It was spacious and comfortable, with a nice common area/kitchen just down the hall. The employees were very friendly and the rates were very reasonable. The attached restaurant is pretty good, but be aware that the service is very slow (not the servers' fault, they are very attentive -- but they seem to have only one guy in the kitchen). At first when my family and I checked in we were taken away by the beautiful view from our room. We stayed in a room called seawatch and over looking the ocean was exactly what we wanted. However, we made the mistake of not checking the bed prior to getting ready for bed. We left the room shortly after getting there because we were only staying to one night and wanted to explore the reason for our stay. We returned around 9:00pm, got my children ready and when I went to put my middle child to sleep I noticed the sheets had a large pee covered stain. I went to the main office to have the sheets changed but no one was around. He ended up sleeping on the couch. Then out "neighbor" was yelling until 1 am which made it hard to fall asleep because I could hear his entire conversation. We checked out at 6 am because we wanted to get on the road early and when I went to check out again no one was in the office. I ended up finding a worked from the restaurant and explained to them the bed situation and he called the owner and I was able to speak with him. He kept saying sorry and that he would look into it and call me later and several days later I haven't heard a word from him. I will never stay here again. Very disappointing because the view was amazing. read more

We spent a few nights here recently. Overall the stay was pretty good. The view from the room is very nice. There are some problems that we found, the first being a complete lack of privacy. The walls were so thin you could hear everything (yes, everything) going on in your neighbor's room. The "king" beds are actually two twins strapped together. Sure that equals the size of a king bed but not the luxury. There is a very uncomfortable bump going down the center of the bed. For some reason with a king bed we only got 3 pillows. They do have a kitchen you can use but oddly there were no instructions about what to do with dirty dishes and no dish soap available to wash them. Also, the water dispenser on the fridge was very dirty. Everything else seemed reasonably clean. There are many small things that this Inn could do to improve the experience, far too many to list here. That, to me, is the sad part. The details of an enjoyable stay are entirely overlooked. You can't have a great Inn based on a view alone. read more

We are in Lubec on a vacation. I called a few weeks ago and asked if dogs were allowed on the patio and was told yes. We stopped there this Sunday and there was a long line at the front. People seemed confused but were waiting to place their order at the front counter. About 5-10 minutes in to waiting a woman starting asking people how many people for a table and expressed there was no take out due to Labor Day or any salads or clams. She got to me and I said I had two in my party and a dog. She said there wasn't a table for that. I asked how long and she said she didn't know. There was a table in front and three picnic tables in back which I assume are for take out orders. I left kind of confused. Today we figured we'd try it again given that there are limited places open here. I had my husband go in and the young woman told him to wait at the picnic tables and when someone left in the back deck to grab the table. We waited and went up about 5 minutes later to a couple with menus walking to that table. I went inside and waited for another 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge me and I told her what happened. She said she has spoken to my husband and that she didn't seat the other couple. I said that's fine but there should have been some communication with her counterpart. She again said she didn't seat them and that they don't keep a list. She was very short and told me to sit in front or the picnic tables and she'd serve us. I'm really upset at the curt response and I would definitely not recommend it at all. read more

This is a great converted cannery right on the water. It is super quiet with concrete construction, not your typical creaky old place. The view is incredible with a full kitchen in the room. I really wish I could have stayed a couple more nights. The staff was really friendly and made it all the more inviting. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place! It's long, but you must read my experience. This place is one for the books! I had a trip to Acadia National Park planned, so I decided to lengthen my vacation and stay in the eastern-most town in the United States! I picked Lubec because it looked like such an adorable town that was somewhat close to St. Croix Island International Historic Site (I'm a bit of a National Park Service junkie), and like I said, IT'S THE EASTERN-MOST TOWN IN THE UNITED STATES! Cool! My trip started off on the wrong foot as I had flown in from Chicago without my driver's license. So the rental car that I had already reserved and paid for was a no-go. After a late afternoon arrival and begging a taxi driver to drive me the 3 hours to Lubec, I made a very late arrival at the Inn. Judy, the co-owner of the Inn, was still up and greeted me with a glass of wine at the door. Ugh. Just what I needed. The room was quaint and simple, but perfect. It has no TV, which is a blessing. This town must be explored and experienced. It had a balcony looking over the water. I woke up every morning and had a cup of coffee on my balcony. I could just sit and stare out onto the water and watch the workers on the dock all day. There are also Adirondack chairs on the small patch of land between the inn and the water. Those chairs were great for sitting out late at night with a glass of wine. Remember my bad luck with forgetting my driver's license and no rental car? My first full day in Lubec, I had planned to drive to St. Croix International Historic Site. I was discussing my bad luck with Victor, the co-owner of the Inn, and he offered to let me use his truck. Just like that! He GAVE me his truck! He gave me his truck for several hours just so I could get to St. Croix and explore the historic site, just as I had planned. I mean, can this place get any better?! Are there any sweeter inn keepers in the world than these two?! One night, after a long day of whale watching (which I reserved through the inn. Highly recommended), I grabbed a glass of wine and sat outside right next to the water. As I was sitting there, reminiscing the memories made over the course of the day and counting all the seals popping in and out of the water, I saw some red lights in the distance. I figured it may have just been a town lighting up the night sky. They were small, but noticeable red lights dancing in the sky. I thought to myself, "There's no way that those can be the Northern Lights." So even though, at the time, I did not believe they were the Northern Lights, I still enjoyed them as if they were. The next morning I was in the restaurant (conveniently located within the inn) and I overheard a couple of people talking about how they read an article in the paper saying the Northern Lights would make an appearance this very weekend. Boom! The I had witnessed the Northern Lights! I also rented a mountain bike one of my days here. You can rent the bike through the inn. I rode just across the border into Canada to visit Roosevelt Campobello International Park. It was my first experience crossing the U.S. border and I got to do it on a bicycle! If you are looking to stay anywhere near Lubec, this is the place to stay. I hope to go back to Lubec and Inn on the Wharf sometime soon! read more
