This was a step back to the seventies . Not in a good was . It's nice they offer a pen and post card but the cheaper rooms that are not cheap smell like cigarettes and are dirty . I won't be back .

First visit to Calais . I have to say Calais is a run down town with nothing but the international crossing . Not much at all for food or places to stay so the prices are higher than average due to no competition. Due to prices I took a lower end room . Felt like I was stepping back into 1972 . Which was before my time lol . Besides the stinky cigarette smell , the room was dirty . White mold or something on the curtains . The A/C the carpets the walls . Everything ! No table ! No chair . One chair at a desk which was being used for the microwave and fridge . Tv didn't work and the towels for dingy , grey and ruff . No soaps or shampoo . No mint on the pillow lol After close examination I decided to go to the office and see what could be done . The employee was very friendly and helpful . She offered to upgrade me for a price . She then came to the room and showed her and she upgraded us for free . I'm sure all of the cheap rooms are the same so just pay the extra and get a good room . Upgraded room was great ! Free wife . Use caution on the Wi-Fi . At 3:30 am someone hacked my phone and was trying to use my Apple Pay to buy something ! Was not impressed. My phone had bad service . No breakfast or vending machines . The woman who worked there was very nice. She told me all about the long history of the hotel and the family who owns and that the son lives upstairs and works there so employees can have the holidays off . That's all very nice but no excuse for dirty rooms. This dirt is old. Not from yesterday .it says there is a restaurant but it looks out of business .

If you need a clean room and bed at the border this is a good choice. Plain but clean. Spend the extra $10 on the river view.

With that said, construction and maintenance was a daily thing. Our room was comfortable and had a porch. It badly needed painting. Construction on a path below our room was ongoing into the evening. Did not try all the dining venues but what we had was great ie fish and chips, mussels, artichoke dip, Canadian beers and gin and tonics. Beautiful views, recreation included 2 pools, fitness room and bikes. Staff was very polite outgoing and attentive. Would love to return.

But I'm in a different part of the hotel maybe or it's been renovated. My room is a lot lot smaller..,,it is very nice and clean. But who doesn't put a closet in a hotel room?!!!!! There's nowhere for me to hang any of my clothes. I am on a work trip and I have to hang up nice shirts and dresses. There's nowhere for me to put anything except for two drawers. And No ironing board??? I mean... Do they want me to have to call down there and ask for someone to bring it to me so then I have to spend $10 and tip somebody? No. also, the amenities in the room are very lacking. There's one teeny little thing of body lotion and a little small bar of soap. Usually at least you get some cotton balls and some Q-tips :-) there is a coffee maker but no to-go cups so I can't take it in the car. Then I was starving and when I got here and checked in at the front desk, I was told that I could order from Braxton's and take it up to my room and I could not wait to get a steak, but they wouldn't even let me take a steak to my room. Their response was no you can sit at a table but we can't let you take anything to go. The steak would not be good by the time you got it up to the room and would not be the right temperature. Wait what? I'm on the second floor. The hotel is very small. It's two seconds to my room. And what about what if I want that?! I said i didn't care if it's a little warm when I get it to my room. I said I wanted a steak. And you're not gonna let me take it to my room? I don't understand. I did not want to socialize. I've been traveling all day. I did not want to have to clean up and sit in a loud public place. I just wanted a good steak and a Caesar salad. So I had to order room service, which has maybe 5 entrees to choose from. Lastly- When I called about two weeks ago and asked since I've been in marriott bonvoy customer since 2008 if they could upgrade me to a balcony room (and for context last time i did not have any trouble doing that - they upgraded me with no )....this time they told me that they would have to charge me $150 more a night to do that. Good thing that the company is paying for this because if I was, I'd be furious.

The room and bathroom were spotless. Seriously...spotless. We had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, recycling bin, and TV with cable and DVD/VCR as well as a library of DVD/VHS available at the front counter at no cost. The owners allowed incoming and outgoing long distance calls at no charge but asked that calls be kept to under 10 minutes. There was also free Wi-Fi Internet access. For smokers and pet owners, they also had rooms set aside specifically to meet those needs. I never would have expected to have such a great stay in such an out of the way location. I definitely recommend the Boidi Motel and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Unfortunately there were no queen/king sized beds, which is a problem for a tall person like me. But I was willing to sacrifice some comfort for cleanliness. Road noise was definitely an issue. If you're a heavy sleeper it probably won't bother you. The trucks don't go by as much late at night, but I heard them increasing in frequency around 5am. Nicer than I was expecting for a middle-of-nowhere motel.

The rooms are decorated really nicely. On first glance, the rooms appear to be very clean. The views of the water are ridiculously beautiful. Nice big lawns to play games and have fun family time. Cottages are spaced out enough that you have privacy, but close enough to feel together. The location to the main drag is perfect - everything is within walking distance. The cons: The beautiful beach is COVERED with broken glass and rusted metal which makes it really dangerous - especially with kids wanting to play there. The deck with the gorgeous views have a rope barrier which is not only extremely dangerous for children, but also for adults if they stumble at all. While the rooms appeared to be very clean, dishes need to be done by those who are staying there which made me question how clean they actually are. Also, when we were leaving we checked under the bed to make sure we weren't forgetting anything and found open food under there that wasn't ours which tells us that underneath the beds are not cleaned upon departure. Units are not soundproof in the slightest!!! You can hear a pin drop in the unit beside you. A few points worth mentioning: Quiet time is at 11:00pm and is pretty heavily enforced. I was staying there with my family for my wedding and we were shut down on two different nights (the first night at 10:40ish - when it was mentioned that quiet hour is 11:00pm, the girls were told that while that's true, the owners wanted to go to bed so they still needed to shut it down). The problem I seen with this is that it was pretty much all my family who had rented the units so we obviously weren't complaining (and while there were other tenants there, they were joining in on the party)! I think it was more that the owners weren't happy with the noise. Fair enough, but I think when renting and informing them that it was for a wedding they could have stressed how seriously quiet hour is taken. Another thing worth mentioning is that the first night, I was told that the female owner asked a group of girls in a cabin to quiet down. No problem with that, except that she walked right into the unit without knocking or anything. I wasn't there to see this myself, but the 7 or 8 girls there said it happened. I understand that they own the cabin, but there really should be a sense of privacy while staying there. One thing that really disappointed me was when I initially called to book I told them that it was for my wedding and that we were looking for a place where lots of family and friends could stay. I was told that was no problem that they had a LOT of units to which I was ecstatic! After a few family members and bridal party members booked in (at which point we were told we were the only people staying there as of then) I called to book some people in and was told there was no space. I asked if all the units were rented, and to be frank, was given a kind of rude lecture on how hard it is to run a resort with their limited staff. I said I understood, but was disappointed because I was told all the units could be used initially. We also couldn't change locations because of the 50% non-refundable deposit. So that's fine - we sucked it up. I told my grandparents (with accessibility issues) to book elsewhere which sucked because they then had to travel to be with us. I told aunts and uncles to book elsewhere. I told friends to book elsewhere. Then - a few aunts and uncles called anyway and got in!! Literally days after I was told that they were at capacity. This really sucked as it meant more family/friends could have stayed there with us and my grandfather with *very* limited mobility wouldn't have had to travel to be with us. All in all it wasn't a bad place to stay at all, just not exactly what we were looking/hoping for. In my opinion, (and that of the 30 odd family members who were there with me) this is the perfect place to rent out for a family vacation with kids. It's a good old fashioned fun kind of place - but if you hope to have a few drinks, carry on, or play music - you might be better off somewhere else.
