We have stayed here twice in the last month while we were in the area house shopping and visiting friends. We cannot say enough about how great this place is! The owner and his staff are exceptionally friendly and super accommodating. Our second trip we were the only guests in the Inn and that did not stop them from delivering a quality homemade breakfast and taking all the time in the world to make sure we wanted for nothing! This is a unique B&B that is perfect for the Gettysburg area. Steve Wolfe has owned this property for over 45 years and is totally involved in the operation with the support of Peggy, Cassandra and others! We usually go to smaller B&Bs but Steve and Peggy are as friendly as smaller operators! It's very well cared for and looks very good for an actively used truly historical facility. Our room was perfect with a small deck. The bedroom area is perfectly separated from the bath, toilet and sink area by double doors. Breakfast was good and hearty with friendly service by Peggy, who like Steve is a long local. She willingly accommodated our special requests. Overall we couldn't have been happier! read more

If you like to stay at generic hotels without character, this Inn might not be for you -- but you'd be missing out. Each room is individual and thoughtfully decorated with period touches. We stayed in room ( and it was so large with plenty of room for a rollaway bed or two, a gas fireplace, TV with two recliners, and a jet tub. The room was quiet and clean, every detail and amenity was considered down to slippers (which I had forgotten and was grateful to have!) The food at the restaurant is typical bar food but the prices are fine and the billiards and foosball are free. Thanks for a great stay, we will definitely stay again next time we are in Gettysburg. read more

My big Italian family came here for a birthday party. Ambiance, very nice. Server very friendly. Food, mostly very good. But I'm sorry we need to talk about this whole "we like to take our time thing." Literally, they are getting knocked from what otherwise would have been a 4 star review down to two, it was that bad. I don't know why TI@HR is sticking with this "It is our goal to provide a relaxed environment for our guests. We are very sensitive to not rush our guests through their dining experience." (their words, per another review) It took us... wait for it.... wait for it.... no seriously wait for it... because we waited for it..........90 MINUTES TO GET OUR APPS! 90!!!!! Know what you can do in 90 minutes? - Watch the Little Mermaid from beginning to end. - Listen to the entire broadway soundtrack from The Band's Visit. - Run a ten miler. Or if you're slow, a 10k. - Drive from Gettysburg to DC (if there isn't traffic) TRUST ME. WE WEREN'T RUSHED. In fact, I actually thought I was going to faint from starvation. BUT THANKS WE WEREN'T RUSHED! The whole dining "experience" took us about 3 hours. I like not feeling rushed. But seriously like... I don't need three hours. No woman needs three hours. My nephew chose this Inn as a place where the entire family (30+ people) could gather for a memorial service for his father. It was a complete win. Most of the family stayed in the main section above the (closed for the pandemic) restaurant area. In addition to the spacious rooms, they also could gather in the common area from which the rooms radiated, in comfy leather sofas and chairs around a fire. My husband was recovering from hip surgery so we chose a room on the ground floor two buildings down; we had our own fireplace, a spacious bathroom with shower and jacuzzi, and sone of the coziest beds I have ever enjoyed in a commercial establishment. Between the Inn and the house which included our suite is a remodeled barn which includes conference / meeting space as well as a bar ("The Livery) which serves "light meals" along with a great selection of local beers. I had a patty melt which came with a half-pound of beef, deliciously caramelized onions, and gourmet cheese - too yummy! The Livery is an excellent choice for a meal after a long driver or flight to get to Gettysburg. One door further down is a house which also is part of the property, where my nephew accomodated his family of five and also held informal gatherings of the clan during the three days of our stay. A big lawn for kids to play on, a big kitchen/family room to accomodate a couple of dozen people, and a living/dining room area suitable for displaying photos, quiet talk, etc. Proprietor Steve and Hostess Dianne are charming and interesting people. Did I mention the breakfasts? The cook for the closed fine-dining restaurant came in to make potato/egg omelets for us. Local sausages and bacon. Too nice. read more

Wow we live less than a mile from this place and we never go there. Well today we tried it. My wife and I had burgers. I will honestly say they are the best I have had in Gettyburg. Atmosphere laid back and our wait person was super fantastic. She answered all of our questions about menu choices honestly and was ver helpful with the draft beer selections. I'm glad I broke my self-imposed rule: if the parking looks nearly empty, drive away. It was an early dinner (6:30 on a Sunday) and there weren't many cars in the parking lot which can mean a disastrous meal ahead. Thankfully this was not the case. Although by the time we finished dinner, there may have only been about 7 or 8 other tables taken, the dining experience was a good one. We shared the very good House Cured Salmon Gravlox with Capers & Diced Red Onion. The portion was very generous and definitely enough to share. Both our entrees were also very good (Green Peppercorn & Herb Stuffed Pork Tenderloin, Pancetta & Fennel Cream Sauce, with Potato Dauphinoise and the Seared Red Snapper with a Preserved Lemon-Butter-Caper Sauce.) Our only (minor) complaint was that in this historic old inn, the music playing in the background the entire time was Frank Sinatra - not that we wanted Fife & Drums but something more appropriate to the setting would have been appreciated. The owner was INCREDIBLY kind, and allowed me to use the charger meant only for guests for next to nothing, and welcomed me inside out of the cold to wait for my ride while the car charged. We had our wedding ceremony and reception at The Inn at Herr Ridge and it was absolutely amazing. All of the staff was amazing to work with and helped us make our day special. We got so many compliments from our guests on the ceremony, venue and food. The barn was exactly what we were looking for. It was so nice to have both the ceremony and reception so close together. There was a beautiful background during our ceremony- you could see all the lovely garden behind us and the barn as well which looked amazing. It made for some really great picture opportunities. The sound system sounded great, even with all of our tables there was plenty of room for dancing. There was ample parking for our guest and easy set up. While I had great expectations for fine dining at the inn's price point, I was somewhat disappointed in my main course, so that highly influences the overall impression. After drinks, we started with two great appetizers. The oysters were the freshest and tastiest I've had recently even if they were my spouse's choice and my crab cakes were a close second. Both our salads, beet and romaine, were average. My wife's filet was excellent, but should have been for a prie fix up charge. But my lamb shank with risotto was much too heavy a dish and not terribly tasty. The lamb was beer marinated and served directly over an enormous pile of the risotto making it all taste the same. No contrasting texture and best described as mushy. If this was meant to be a Civil War era reenactment, it succeeded. For both entrees, we needed to add pepper, but had to request it, since the server indicated the chef thinks he should be the one to season his dishes. Wrong, it needed something more than what came out of the kitchen. The deserts, creme brûlée and cheesecake were again average. So the highlights were definitely at the beginning and the balance was not exceptional. Service was friendly and competent. We had a nice table on the enclosed porch, but the highway view is not pretty, partially due to some ongoing construction. The hostess gave us a nice history of the Inn, much of it is original pre-civil war. If you are thinking of staying overnight, there's many stories of ghosts residing there too, so beware! read more

The Inn at Herr Ridge is AMAZING!! We just had our wedding there 8/22/20 and it was the most perfect day ever! The staff is amazing, SO HELPFUL, so down to earth, and were there for anything and everything we needed! The barn is PERFECT for ANY wedding!! There is so much you can do/decorate in there! Also, there is so much space in the barn! We had our guests on the main floor, up top, and outside under the tent! We had the barn doors open and the lighting that came through into the barn was amazing! (This made for amazing pictures) Our ceremony was in the grass area right next to the barn which was beautiful! We also recommend the Inn as well which has a good amount of space for any event! It was also so perfect to have the Inn rooms right there for our guests to stay (the rooms are beautiful and so spacious!). Then theres the food, the food was SO AMAZING!! I cannot stress how good the food was! There are many options to choose from which we loved! We loved that they had the barn, the Livery bar and grill, and the Inn all right there! We would recommend the Inn at Herr Ridge to ANYONE AND EVERYONE in a heartbeat! They made our wedding day and every day leading up to it so easy, relaxing, and fun! We visited the Inn for dinner, and were a party of four. This location is very historic, and has a nice feel to it. There are a number of dining rooms, and a full bar. The location is a bed and breakfast, as well. They have a good cocktail menu, and an extensive wine list as well. There is a sommelier on site. The menus we reviewed had a pre-fixe option, as well as a la carte. The food we ordered was good, and overall cooked well. The roasted oyster dish was overcooked, however. The temperature was a bit of an issue, as some of our food was on the cold side. The big complaint was the speed of service. We waited nearly 20 minutes to put our order in, and we there over an hour before our appetizers arrived. Our total meal was nearly three hours, for three to four courses per diner. This has been a complaint of other diners, and things haven't changed, so I'm not exactly sure what the issue is. the restaurant wasn't too busy the night we went. So, the food was decent, the decor and atmosphere were great, and the service was friendly, but it takes forever to get the food out. read more

Went here for a wedding the other weekend and thought it was ok enough. The food wasn't anything spectacular. My prime rib came out with a lot of fat on it, but the real problem was that the knife they gave me wouldn't cut through it at all. It was like using a butter knife. The staff completely ignored our table for coffee and tea so some waited 30 minutes for a cup. They also were very strange in general. I said something about it raining and one of the staff members told me that no, I was just looking into the second floor. I was actually looking out the window into the sky...very odd. Overall, I have been at worse places for dinner but this might have been one of the worse places for a wedding reception...especially since we had to leave almost exactly at 9:30 or the couple would be charged immediately for another hour. This is a review for the casual fare dining at Sharpshooters. Next to the battlefield, close to General lee's HQ, lies this little casual fare gem. While it doesn't look like much from the outside, the sandwich I had here was one of the best I have had in a long time.We sat at the second bar-the room with the pool tables- this past Sunday around 12:30 and we were the only two at that bar. It has a more rustic feel than the central bar in the main dining room. We were greeted promptly by the bar tender who brought our beer order (a Yuengling and a dogfish head 60 min) over quickly. For an overview of the menu, they have a variety of wraps, sandwiches,salads, appetizers,burgers and a variety of quesadillas as well.I ordered the tomato, herb, and cheddar grilled cheese with fries. Described as hot house grown tomato,fresh herbs,sharp cheddar cheese on wheatberry bread with a honey dijon mustard sauce it was the best grilled cheese I believe I have ever had the pleasure of eating! I loved the honey dijon mustard sauce and the herbs made the sandwich seem extra fresh. The fries were seasoned with parmesan and were a great accompaniment. They were also pipping hot when they were brought out so they were crisp as well-just how I like them. My boyfriend ordered the lump Maryland crabcake sandwich (being so close to MD we both figured the crab cake would be good and actually that is what I originally wanted to order but I let him win this one). It was massive-I have never seen a crabcake sandwich as big as this one. There was no filler in it and he said it was delicious. According to the menu, their recipe has won an award for best crabcake north of the mason dixon line. His also came with fries and his opinion on those was the same as mine. Our total bill for 4 beers and the 2 sandwiches was $34.00-very,very reasonable. We will be stopping back here the next time we go out to Gettysburg. read more

Nice atmosphere in the sunroom during summer but the food ranges from excellent to ordinary, the only unchanging variable being that it's pricey. However, my experience tonight lost me as a customer, though, as my problem was handled with such a lack of professionalism that it made me mistrust even their knowledge and adherence to food safety. In short: service was the slowest I've ever had, food was tepid when it arrived, and not one person working there seemed to understand the industry and customer service. My friend and I ordered an appetizer to share, a small soup and salad each, and an entree. The time between courses was interminable. We were stuffed well before the salad arrived and by the time we hit the two hour and ten minute mark, our entrees had not arrived. Literally. We went to cancel them so we could just leave - we only had limited time together and didn't want to spend it sitting in stiff chairs in a restaurant - and they decided them to bring the entrees. I told our waitress and the hostess I didn't want it anymore, that I was full, and they offered only to wrap it up. Waitress even said, "When you ordered four courses, I thought whoa!" Really? Is a shared app, small soup & salad really "whoa-worthy"? Thanks for calling us pigs! They made noise about "timing the courses" (I cannot imagine what their timing was meant to be, given that most restaurants have a fifteen minute rule) and blame was clearly shifted onto our "ignorance of the way they run things." They would NOT remove anything from the bill, nor acknowledge any wrong-doing. In fact, the only offer of any sort of accommodation, if you can call it that, was they offered us a free dessert. One, by the way. For the two people who were too full to eat their entrees. No, thanks. We'd been here several times before and enjoyed it enough to come back. The chef is very pleasant and always comes out to say hello. The soup and salad were great, it must be said. But if you don't have hours and hours to spend in order to feel like you're being served by your judgmental aunt, skip this place and go to The Dobbin House. read more

The Herr Tavern and Publick House is a Bed & Breakfast with a fine dining restaurant as well. I did not eat at the restaurant but stayed at the Bed & Breakfast. A phenomenal room and great atmosphere. The staff were wonderful and it made for a great weekend. This was one of the best places I found for a decent meal and wine list in Gettysburg. I would highly recommend Herr Tavern for a more upscale dining experience. My daughter and I tried the baby crab cakes, crab salad with apple and the shrimp and scallop entree. The baby crab cakes were mostly crab without much fluff, but had a decent amount of breading and were deep fried--think fritters. They had a slightly spicy sauce, but not enough to turn off my three year old. The capers gave a nice textural element to the dish. The crab salad was not what I pictured, but it was still good. Imagine chicken salad, then subtract chicken and add crab. It was a mayo based salad with big chunks of delicious pecans, crab and crisp green apple. I liked it, but I think I would try something different next time. The shrimp and scallop entree was fantastic. The pasta was perfectly cooked, as was the seafood. The scallops and shrimp were large and I honestly had a difficult time finishing this dish, which felt sinful considering how good it was. I wouldn't turn anyway away from this dish. My only complaint was the service. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and I know the dishes are made to order, but it still felt unnecessarily slow. There was a huge lapse between the time she dropped the dessert menu off and when she came back to see if we wanted anything. Had she come sooner I would have easily ordered something, but after sitting there for so long I grew impatient and ended up with a cone from DQ. read more

Had New Year's Eve dinner. Our first time here. Easy parking lot on Rt. 30. Very good food; nice presentation as well. Good service. This was not a special NYE menu, but their menu changes. We got small plates; Calamari salad (mixed greens with a light citrus vinagrette), brown butter chicken with fingerling potatoes and carrots. I had the sunchoke soup puree which was VERY nice. Rolls were served with olive oil and roasted garlic. I had a glass of chardonnay. We got out at $76.00 including one glass of wine and a $6 plate charge with no dessert. (we split our our orders). The B&B entrance was the same as the fine dining restaurant (not the bar/public house). The manager was on duty when we arrived and lead us around the house while giving us a little history of the place. When we arrived at our room (it was bigger than I thought it would be and they had a 360 view on their website) they had a bottle of sparking wine chilling for us along with some cheese and crackers and an apple. This was provided as part of their service. We didn't take our dinner at the restaurant, but when we got back took advantage of the very nice hot tub that was in our bathroom. The bed was so comfy that I wish I could've spent an extra night just to get another night's rest in it. The breakfast was good. We sat at our designated table and at each table there was also a piece of paper with a weather report so you could plan your day. read more

A VERY TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! DO NOT STAY HERE! My family and I reserved two rooms with promised cots. When they couldn't come up with the promised cots, they were "glad" to rent us two additional rooms. It needs to be noted the ceiling sprinkler system was profusely leaking and the cleaning lady who is obviously the owners wife, was "cleaning" with her bare feet!When I asked to cancel this request and refund our deposit due to they could not accomdate, the owner became very irrate, vulgar and confrontational. He was so close to our faces in rage that the alcohol on his breath was so obviously present! After requesting the owner to give us the card that we put the deposit on, he tried to hold it "hostage" by trying to keep it! After I got involved, the raising of the voices made it to the dining area to the dismay of the people dining. We asked if he treats all his customers this way, and apparently he does due to the negatives on Trip Advisor! Do yourself a favor, do not spend a night at this so called "5 star" bed and breakfast. The Hampton Inn was more than accommodating. The only reason I gave them a 1 star is because the scale does not have any lower grading. read more

I took the hubs here for his 50th because Gettysburg is his version of Disneyland. Our meal here turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. I NEVER order steak at a restaurant because fine meat is our family business and I'm picky as hell and don't want to be disappointed. I must say my break with tradition proved to be a teachable moment. The filet we both had was freaking fantastic: cooked to perfection and flavorful. Service was excellent. Tracey can make a delicious sidecar, a drink which can be very hit-or-miss. The whole experience lasted two hours, which is about what I expect for fine dining. This evening was overpriced. We were considered an after-thought after making reservations based on where we were seated. Our table was directly in front of the bar with a view of the kitchen staff. It was drafty, lacked a romantic feel and made it difficult to hold a quiet dinner conversation for two. The dinner of sea scallops was cold and the dessert of bananas foster was not prepared table-side. After spending $200 on our meal, coffee was not part of the Valentine package. These rank as poor practices in our book! The Inn At Herr Ridge needs to re-evaluate the special touches that will make or break an experience for frequent diners. My husband and I only spent one night at the inn. we were in Gettysburg celebrating an anniversary. The staff was super friendly and helpful! We were first greeted with champagne at our arrival. We stayed in room 1. It appeared as though we were the only people staying there. The rooms are charming and cozy. Around 3 am we had a paranormal experience in our room. I had heard rumors of the place being haunted but didn't think we'd see or hear anything. I was awoken abruptly by a loud bang next to my ear. Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep after that. In the morning we ate a delicious breakfast of shrimp and grits. The front desk manager was incredibly friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend room 1 to those looking for ghosts. They do have non haunted rooms in the newer section if that's not your thing. All in all an interesting place to stay filled with history. read more

This is simply an incredible experience. The site is an historic landmark, it was used as a Confederate hospital during the battle of Gettysburg. The ambiance is overwhelming. My date and I each chose a different meal, I had the duck and she had the salmon. Each meal was served with a custom potato dish to compliment the rich presentation. The wine list was simply off the hook. Pages and pages of wines from all over the world are available. But I had excellent food and service on my first visit: a great Malbec from a good wine list, a perfectly presented green salad, and the blackened new york strip steak. Seared by pouring hot olive oil over, I think, topped with ginger soy sauce? Not sure. Also salad of coarsely chopped asparagus, apple and crab in a sweet cream sauce that is wow! Dinner entrees, duck that was seared, with crispy skin delish! And a smoked mozzarella ravioli That was divine. Truly. An extensive wine lis; we opted for wine by the glass, option of 6 or 9 oz pour. Wonderful dessert options...we had salted caramel cheesecake and a dense flourless chocolate cake that were both sublime. Finished w espresso and twist of lemon.
