We recently stayed two nights in the Kyoto room at the Inn at Depot Hill. It was absolutely wonderful. The room itself is secluded at the back of the property with its own little zin courtyard. There are dedicated parking spots for the Kyoto room and the room above it right outside a nearby gate. The 2-person soaking tub was every bit as amazing as it sounds. Sagar was warm and welcoming and truly attended to our every need. He showed us the property and gave us a thorough explanation of the room. They bring breakfast to the room each morning. The first morning was delicious and honestly the second morning probably was , too, for most guests, but the baked eggs just weren't our thing. Everything was prepared beautifully though, so absolutely no fault to the chef. Additionally, there are fresh baked cookies and wine available in evenings as well as games available to play in the main entry area. Overall, I loved everything about our stay and we will definitely be back next time we are in Capitola! read more

What an absolute gem! We loved the Inn at Depot Hill! Before even arriving service was topnotch. We were sent instructions for check in with a video and could text with the manager at any time. The rooms are spacious and very nice and unique. The daily breakfast is great and you'll know the day before what the menu is. There is communal coffee, tea, hot water, a microwave and small fridge and freezer. There's also a nice sitting area outside. The location is amazing for walking around Capitola. A car is not needed if you're staying here and plan to keep your activities in the area. You're walking distance from the beach, restaurants, bars, markets, and grocery stores. If you're staying in Capitola, do yourself a favor and stay here! read more

They serve breakfast in the morning, meat and cheese platter in the afternoon and have cookies at night for guest. Close to the beach, shops and restaurants. I really enjoyed the location, service, and amenities. This property is historic so of course it is dated in areas, but it's more romantic and charming than anything else. It felt like stepping back in time, especially entering the railroad baron room. We enjoyed the deep soaking tub and the fireplace. The breakfast was really good. Upon check-in, we were warmly greeted and provided instruction and even slightly early entry to our room. There was a decent, albeit basic, complementary cheese and cracker and wine hour which we enjoyed in the garden area. It was also close enough to walk to the Capitola shops and beach in 5 min. It's a well kept and quaint property where the service and hospitality were good enough but we've stayed in many places where we thought the value and offerings were superior. Other than the never ending road noise from trucks and hot rods speeding by, I can't fault this place but we wouldn't return unless it was half the price or our stay was a gift. read more

Horrible experience!! We stayed at the inn January 10-12 and in the "Deluxe" Kyoto room. The check-in was not what we expected. Online there were photos of guests having complementary wine and cheese at 4p. We were told we were the only guests at the property so perhaps they didn't want to put anything out for just two people. The room was very private and it had a nice Japanese themed garden but thats where it stops. The room needed repairs with its torn window coverings and it was extremely cold even with the gas fireplace, which was mainly for aesthetics and not heat. I called Jayme at the front desk and was told there was a portable heater in the storage of the TV cabinet. I called again around 5p and Jayme was off for the day so the call rolled over to the manager, Wani. I told Wani that it was freezing in our room and there was no space heater. Wani proceeded to explain that she was home sick and would have Jayme return to get us a heater. We went to dinner and returned to find no heater. Needless to say, we had to bundle up and sleep layered in sweatshirts that night. The following morning we received a call saying the chef was ill so there would be no breakfast. I expressed my disappointment about the breakfast and lack of heat and Wani apologized and said Jayme told her she was going to drop off the heater. She asked if we at least enjoyed some wine at check-in and I said no. Wani said she would contact the owner to request we receive a partial credit for the inconveniences. Later that afternoon Jayme arrived with a heater. I told her we were expecting her last night and she was surprised because she told Wani she was already in San Francisco and could not return. She apologized and also baked some chocolate chip cookies. I expressed our disappointment once again and she said she would contact booking.com for us for a partial refund. We paid $900 for a two night stay. I've stayed at many hotels/inns for half this price and received far better service and accommodations. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. And reading the negative reviews, the owner doesn't take accountability for their shortcomings. I doubt we will receive any refund. I've read the owner only offers discounts on future stays. read more

Had a perfect stay at this awesome inn! We had five rooms overall and were in town for our friends 40 th renewal of their vows ! Great place to gather with friends ! We had the delft room and found it to be very charming. With friends of over forty years in tow we all found this inn to be very accommodating, even allowing us to play game at their big table. What a cute Inn! We stayed at Costa de Sol Room which was beautifully decorated and had a private outdoor patio. The room was clean, decor was as expected (looked like the pictures), and there was even music playing in the room when we first checked in! That was a beautiful touch! The location was PERFECT - walking distance to pretty much everything you need for a weekend! The stay included breakfast. We were served 2 buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, 1 sausage, small fruit cup, orange juice, and coffee. We opted for breakfast brought to our room to eat at our outdoor patio. We thought the food was just fine, nothing special. There were a few small details that would have made our stay even better: 1) Check in time - I wish the check in time was clearer. The online email said 3:00pm, but the sign said 4:00pm when we arrived. The front door was locked (there was a sign to call a number for arrival), but we just came back in an hour instead. 2) The hot and cold water was not labeled in the bathroom. We figured it out, but it took some time. 3) the bed was a bit hard, but maybe this is probably a personal preference. Overall, we loved our stay and would consider staying at this Inn again, but in a different room for a different experience. read more

Railroad Baron Room - decorated for the era Breakfasts were great. Egg Scramble day 1 and pancakes day two. Christine was the host Sagar - the manager greeted and welcomed us. He was very friendly and had his dog with him. Room was very clean Location is perfect. Close to Gradys Market, short walk to the village and the pier. We missed the happy hour but Christine was gracious enough to treat us to a glass of wine - which was very nice. ] The hot tub was the strangest one I've ever seen but it was great. Our 13th anniversary celebration was a mixed bag, and unfortunately, the frustrating parts are what stand out. The property is gorgeous and the room itself was lovely. It has parking for the guest and walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants, but the service and noise issues were a real letdown. The wine and cheese reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. was a huge disappointment. We were only able to grab a small amount of cheese and crackers before they were completely removed by 5 p.m. The wine was gone by 5:30 p.m. It's frustrating to be given incorrect information, especially when it's something you're looking forward to. To top it all off, we had extremely loud neighbors. We could hear every word of their conversations and the constant slamming of doors, well into the night. It made it impossible to relax and enjoy our special occasion. What should have been a peaceful anniversary trip turned out to be a noisy and frustrating experience. I was going to let the Front Desk know the next morning when we checked out but no one was in the office. read more

I booked the Cote D'Azur room over Valentines weekend as part of my surprise to propose to my now fiancé. We loved the coziness of our room. The staff and services were amazing and made our weekend extra special. My fiancé had questions about some of the old, historical items in the lobby area and the manager, Sagar kindly gave us a mini background story of how the inn came to be and the previous owners. We had a wonderful couple of nights at the Inn. It was so relaxing and the Paris room was beautiful and comfortable. Beds are very comfortable. The in room daily breakfast was great as was the daily happy hour of wine and cheese. All the employees are very helpful and friendly and I loved Sagar's puppy, Groove! The Inn at Depot Hill is a re-purposed train station turned B&B with rooms all unique to one another. Sagar, the manager, is a sagacious and gracious host. He took great care of us! Check-in is usually 4pm but Sagar let us know in the morning that we could show up early and that he would be there to help us get settled in. If you need any recommendations on where to go in Capitola, he's the person to ask. Our room (Portofino) had a cozy fireplace and a jacuzzi out in our own little patio. They provide bathrobes, bath salts, and extra towels for the hot tub too. The bathroom was spacious and stocked with all the toiletries you may need. I thought it was great they left regular kirkland waters for us instead of some fancy bottles I wouldn't bother paying for. There's no fridge or microwave in the room, but lots of places to eat in downtown Capitola/Soquel area. In the morning, breakfast was brought to our room on a tray with coffee and orange juice. The food itself was pretty basic but presented really nicely. With all the COVID chaos going on, this place was an absolute haven to ring in the new year and my birthday. Would definitely stay again in the future to check out different rooms read more

We stayed one night in the Costa del Sol room, which was clean and beautifully decorated with a fireplace and french door opening to a private patio. The manager was very attentive, even bringing up some extra coffee pods for the morning. We wish he would have pointed out the optional foam pillows in the closet - we would have preferred those to the feather ones. Two missed details that took away one star from our rating: The coffee maker did not work. We were expecting breakfast coming to our room in a few minutes, so did not call. Sadly, the breakfast, which was tasty, provided only 2 small cups of coffee with no refills. The shower body wash dispenser was empty. The bathroom is too small for two people at one time. We went to report the issues but the manager office was empty. We found someone and told them. Aside from those glitches, we plan to return. Perhaps try a different room. The Inn's history and location provide a unique experience to visiting Capitola. read more

I stayed in the room "Statford on Avon". Reasons I did not enjoy the room itself as much as I thought i would: Cons: The room does not look like the pictures. There is no wallpaper on the walls, giving it that vintage look. The room had simple white walls. There were NO pictures on the wall which gave it that cozy feel like in the pictures. The room had no valances drape curtains over the window seat such as in the picture. The window seat had one small green cushion. There were only basic white horizontal white wooden blinds built into the window. It was a naked bay window that could have been made so cozy, victorian and beautiful. That is why we picked this place; the way it looks in the pictures. TV was small and dated. Not a necessity for me, but I did need to request help with the remote and I am 33 years old. It had appeared that this room may have been lacking some attention in detail and attention from management. It is not as cozy as it appears in the pictures. I would have paid $150 max for this room, not $250. There were modifications to the room that did not aid to make this room victorian and vintage. Pros: The bathroom did look like the photo! I did enjoy the breakfast. I was served breakfast at my accommodated requested time which I did not necessarily except since it was so early. The entrance and courtyard are as it appears. Would give more than 5 stars for my excellent stay at the Inn at Depot Hill. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Sagar will take care of you and make you feel at home. Each room is unique and has a different theme. You can tell the staff puts in an extra effort to make sure your room is cozy and relaxing when you check in. Sagar took the time to tell us the history of the building (it's an old train station!) and gave us a tour of each of our rooms. We mentioned we had a reservation at Shadowbrook later that evening and Sagar went ahead and called the restaurant to see if they had a classic taxi pick up available. A highlight was the breakfast. I usually don't eat much in the morning but gobbled up the cinnamon french toast, fruit, sausage and orange juice with no problem. It was absolutely delicious. I look forward to staying at the Inn at Depot Hill again maybe for a romantic weekend getaway instead of a work retreat. The room I stayed in would have been perfect for a romantic weekend with a private hot tub and side patio. You can hear guests in the lobby if your room is on the ground floor but it wasn't bothersome. Something to be aware of as it is a historic building. Charming and gorgeous bed and breakfast in Capitola. European themed rooms with lavish decorations. I felt like I was back in Paris with the wall paper, sconces, and music. Staff is great. Peggy was a joy to talk to and makes the experience memorable. 4 pm wine and cheese followed by omelette in the morning. You request the time it comes to your room between 8-10 am. Very uninspiring, non innovative breakfasts. Waffle batter tasted like a cheap box version. The small cup of fruit was not fresh and only consisted of cantaloupe, honeydew and some green grapes. At least the 2 grapes were fresh. The other morning we got waffles.They were spongy without any crisp edges, lacking fluffiness, taste or berries.  Again, we got the same fruit, sausages and juice. The welcoming cheese and wine consisted of two bottles of wine for all the guests,  grapes, olives and  crackers, and cubed cheese (that you could buy in a local costco). Once the items were gone, they were not replaced. Again, very underwhelming . On the plus side, they did make cookies that were good. But the cookies are served later in the evening. If you are going for a great food experience, this is not it. The rooms are fine. If you're into history, you may enjoy it. However, please note that the only thing that discusses the history is 2 Typewritten  pages left in your room. No tour provided. There is nothing written on any supposed artifacts that explains what you are looking at furniture wise decorator wise or anything else . Convenience wise, I would say this is not the place you want to stay. Most rooms  have no new electrical outlets, so be sure to bring your cellphones with a plug for the old outlets. Also, lacking are any hangers. There is not enough light in the room if you want to apply your makeup. The library area is pretty small. There is no  conversational seating area.  The outside It's not really very inviting. There are some uncomfortable chairs and others with bird poop on them. I'm really not sure how this place receives high marks.  On the plus side, it is a close walking distance to the beach area.But you cannot see the beach. We are not sure how breakfasts received such high ratings from everyone. The four of us are not that picky. We have stayed at embassy, suites and Hampton inns and had  better breakfasts. This place is not a value for your money.  We recommend you spend less and get more elsewhere.  For sure, I would take away the B for breakfast. Yes you get a bed. Hope you like high pillows. All  all very disappointing. read more

Just returned from staying in the Kyoto room at the inn at Depot Hill! It was such a pleasant stay. Sagar greeted us and showed us to our beautiful Japanese inspired room. We enjoyed a long weekend here. Everyone we met, Sagar and Peggy, were very friendly and helpful. We got great restaurant recommendations. We especially like Gayle's and Trestles. Capitola is a great location, we enjoyed ourselves just taking in the sights around the town. Easy to walk from here all over town. The accommodations are marvelous, very comfortable and restful. The rooms are all unique and have a character of their own. We look forward to trying different rooms in the future. Breakfast is included, it's a nice elegant meal. They have a specific offering but will make changes as you request. The evening wine and cheese is nice, a good interlude before going out for supper. read more

The place is a gem. I stayed in the Portofino room, and it was fantastic. The room had a lovely fireplace with luxurious furniture and a hot tub with jets on our private patio. I opted for the anniversary package (Roses, champagne, and Chocolate truffles) for my anniversary and was not disappointed. Sagar & Peggy are excellent hosts, and I've already recommended this place to close friends & family. I will be back to stay in the other rooms. read more

We rented out the entire Inn for our bridal party and closest friends, which allowed us to include our young flower girls and ring-bearer. our room (kyoto) and its private garden were excellent. but, attention to detail and maintenance were lacking. the main lighting over the bathroom sink didn't work and couldn't be easily repaired. this should have been noticed in prepping the room between guests. we were told to contact the front desk if there were any problems but no one was there. in the evening we had been offered sweets, but at 8pm nothing was left except a sign to call if anything was not right. when we checked in we were asked about our breakfast beverages. both were wrong. also other signs of inattention. just minor pieces that detracted. at the price, we expected more. in sum, the room was great, but there is no one around to give assistance as needed. read more

Lovely property providing an ideal brief getaway. The room was exactly as advertised, if not better. This is a room you want to spend time in. Staff had the fireplace going ahead of our arrival with tasteful swing music playing in the room. Was a nice touch and felt very welcoming and cozy. Even with restrictions which the property followed closely, breakfast was still provided -- which was left out-front the room door in the morning. Included in the bathroom toiletries was a pack of bath salts, which was also a nice touch. Rain hitting the skylight over the bathtub added even more ambience to the very cozy well-appointed suite. The property is a short walk down to the beach and restaurants - really enjoyed the food from Paradise Beach Grill. UC Santa Cruz is a short drive away. I recommend visiting the Arboretum and seeing the beautiful Protea trees / shrubs. Looking forward to return! read more

We had a heavenly stay recently at the Inn at Depot Hill. Spent 3 glorious nights in the Delft room. Decorated in a windmill motive in blue and white it has a comfy bed and a wonderful private courtyard with a deep jetted tub. Just then thing after a long day at the beach or just walking the adorable town. Sagar the manager is so great! He helped us pick the perfect room. Breakfast is excellent with homemade croissants!
