I was visiting a friend in Stuttgart and we were wondering where to have dinner last night. I…read morewanted to go to a place that neither of us had been to, and in a city -- country, really -- of sausages, kababs and faux-Chinese noodles, Ethiopian food definitely stood out as an interesting option. Restaurant Äquator's Yelp reviews boasted high ratings and were in German, which told me that this was a favorite with locals. The restaurant had a nice ambience and had a consistent stream of clientele through the course of our dinner, even though it was on the quiet, mellow side. The owner -- I wish I had asked for his name -- was kind and took time to make suggestions. My friend and I had the sense that he was going to look after us quiet well. Based on his recommendation, we got the sample platter for two consisting of veggies and meat. I'm not exactly an expert of African cuisine but I believe I've had some great, authentic Ethiopian food due to the fact that there's a concentrated Ethiopian neighborhood in Los Angeles, where I'm from. Our meal at Aquator was excellent and comparable to what I've experienced in the past. To top off our meal, the owner served us complimentary digestifs. What a pleasant surprise! I'm not sure that this is a part of the normal service but I do believe it's an extension of the care with which they serve all their patrons. I'm already back in London but my friend was so impressed with the food and the service that she will be going back soon with her husband. I would be a third wheel to their party of two in a heartbeat if I was still in town!

Bottom line for our family, we are coming back again. Just order the mixed platter and you will be…read moregood to go!

I tried their zebra and crocodile dishes, and their lamb samosas…read more The zebra was my favorite dish because of how tender the meat was even when fully cooked (which I usually don't like), and the bed of vegetables both the zebra and crocodile were on was delicious. The vegetables had extremely rich flavors that go perfectly with the exotic meats. The crocodile meat was a little tougher, which wasn't my preference. The samosas were perfectly crispy on the outside and had the right amount of their original sauces (one chili, one mango) to go with it. Also, beautiful restaurant and beautiful food presentation. The pictures don't do the food justice. Must try: zebra dish and lamb samosas If you're going with a group of 5 or more, make reservations ahead of time. There's a list of reservations even before they open. If you have a smaller party, you won't have a problem finding a table. Waittress was nice and can make good recommendations.

The atmosphere and decor are great, but everything else was mediocre, at best. The wait staff was…read moreunable to deal with our large group efficiently or politely. The food took an excruciatingly long time to come out, possibly due to the number of people in our group vs. the size of the facility. The prices were somewhat reasonable, if their exotic menu selection is actually true (which I doubt). All in all, I would go back, but only with one or two people, just to see if the experience is any different.
