I rarely leave reviews, but I felt this situation warranted one. I recently called ahead to the bakery department to ask if they sold bags of frosting. The employee who answered was helpful and even checked in-store, confirming that they had frosting available in red, green, blue, and pink. Great -- I appreciated the effort and planned to pick it up later in the day, telling him I'd like to pick one up.
When I arrived, however, the experience was the complete opposite. After waiting at the bakery for around five minutes, someone who appeared to be a manager came out. I explained why I was there, and he immediately told me they don't sell frosting like that -- completely contradicting what I was told over the phone just a few hours earlier.
Instead of verifying with another team member or checking in the back, he began cleaning something off the floor with paper towels, ignoring the situation entirely. I tried to explain again and mentioned that I used to work at Walmart and know that some stores do sell frosting this way. Only then did he reluctantly start looking through a few tubs -- not really trying, just enough to say he "checked." When I asked if the bags had barcodes, he didn't bother to follow up or ask anyone else. He just shut it down and told me they don't sell them.
Honestly, it felt like he just didn't want to put in the effort to help. It was easier for him to say no than to do the work of verifying with someone or actually checking thoroughly.
Very disappointing customer service, especially after a positive phone interaction. Ingles, if you're hiring a manager , I would expect that manager to know what they're doing and actually have good customer service and not be lying to customers. read more
