We spoke the other day with the medical director. He took a good amount of time to talk to us about my loved one's medical condition and our concerns. Looked in depth at his chart and history. Ultimately told us to invite our loved one's PCP to contact him to share thoughts to try to dig deeper into some things. In short, very personal attentive one on one care. Very knowledgeable. You don't get that everywhere if at all. The fact the head medical director made himself available to us without requiring a scheduled meeting or heads up is amazing care. Every staff member we have encountered is kind and friendly. Very personable and outgoing. You don't get the bare minimum. You can tell they care. They joke. They express concern. They listen and interact. And we have seen this with other patients in other rooms when no third parties are around. So it isn't just best behavior when family is present. It is the way of life here. So I continue to be so pleased with this facility.

There are friendly faces everywhere. They are so very attentive to the patients. It is remarkably clean. The food is fresh and flavorful and varied. They have many social events planned and the guests are welcome to sit in the common areas or go outside with family. They have coffee bar set up for patients and family. Everything about this facility gives you comfort in knowing your loved ones are being well cared for.

I chose this facility because of its strong reviews, passing up at least 20 others that were closer to home--and I'm so glad I did. I would've driven to the ends of the earth to get the best care for my grandfather, and that's exactly what we received DSC. It was such a relief to trust them with his health, especially after a horrific experience at another facility (which I'll describe shortly as a contrast to highlight how exceptional DSC is). My grandfather was here for short-term rehab to regain his ability to walk. This is a smaller, more intimate facility where the nurses, staff, and physical therapists have the time to provide constant care and monitoring--which is the most crucial factor in a nursing home. I cannot stress enough how rare this level of attention is, especially in chain-owned facilities. Whenever I requested something for my grandfather (such as a diaper change), the staff responded promptly. Whenever I had questions, the nurses were patient, thorough, and quick to provide clear explanations. Beyond that, it was clear that the staff was proactive in their care. I visited at different times of the day and consistently found them cleaning, feeding, medicating, or checking on my grandfather without being asked. The facility itself is also exceptionally clean. The maintenance crew was always present, regularly mopping, cleaning, and removing waste multiple times a day. The social services department was incredibly helpful, meticulously guiding us through the process of his continued care and rehabilitation after his return home. They were also easily accessible whenever I needed assistance. I spent between four to eight hours at the facility every single day my grandfather was there, so I can personally attest to the staff's dedication--not just to my grandfather, but to all the patients on the floor. I noticed how engaged and active many of the patients were. Whenever medically cleared, they were encouraged to move around and spend time outside their rooms. The nurses ensured my grandfather sat in a chair for his meals rather than remaining in bed all day, which is a critical part of physical rehabilitation. This was a stark contrast to his previous facility, where patients were neglected, left in bed all day unless they required procedural care. The physical therapy team at DSC was top-notch--patient, consistent, and accommodating. They even assisted my grandfather in walking to the restroom and helped clean him when necessary. All of these qualities are crucial in a care facility--and, unfortunately, far from guaranteed elsewhere. Before coming here, we had a nightmarish experience at another facility--Complete Care at Prospect Heights in Hackensack, NJ. My grandfather was severely neglected there, developing a urinary tract infection and a painful diaper rash that landed him back in the hospital. The staff was overworked and unable to attend to him in a timely manner. If he needed a diaper change, I had to remind the nurses multiple times, often waiting 60-90 minutes before anyone helped. And that was with me physically present and insisting--so I can't imagine the neglect when no one was watching. The nurses at Complete Care rarely answered questions, often making empty promises to follow up and then never returning. If my grandfather wasn't in a physical therapy session, he was left alone in bed all day because the staff was stretched too thin to provide anything beyond the bare minimum. The facility smelled strongly of urine, was outdated, unsanitary, and completely dysfunctional. I know some people might have concerns about going to Paterson. While the city itself has areas that need improvement, this facility is located in a quiet cul-de-sac by a high school, next to a modern apartment complex, and across from a church. The area is clean, suburban, and safe, with two parking lots. At no point did I feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or concerned. I share all of this to emphasize what truly matters when choosing a care facility: consistent, compassionate, and attentive care. That is what makes all the difference, and that is exactly what the staff at Doctors Subacute Care provides. Doctors Subacute Care's slogan is "Your Bridge Back Home." They lived up to their word. My grandfather is back home, happy, and sitting next to me as we speak. Thank you DSC.

My mom is currently there and this has to be one of the worst places I have ever seen for…read morerehabilitation! Where do I start? The facility itself is falling apart. There are hardly any garbage bins and peope have to share them between the bathrooms and the rooms. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the cheapest quality you can get. If it snows, you are on your own out there walking on the ice! The staff hates their job and they don't know what they are doing. Don't get me wrong some of them are nice and actually care but most of them don't. Be prepared to take food to your loved one 3 times a day because the food they serve I would not even give to my dog. They have no water for drinking so you have to bring in your own water bottles. The ice machine is disgusting. Therapy is kind of ok but they don't really push people to get better quickly, it will take forever to gain your strength back at that pace. Their so called services, like hair and nails is non-existent. Take it from me, don't even think about sending someone here. I regret it so much. It is literally like watching American Horror Story.

My 79 yo mom was transferred to JH from another rehab facility after only one night there. I…read morereceived a panicked call that following morning at 6am asking me to move her to the JH because my father had stayed there last year. Thanks to Adrienne and all the wonderful staff at JH, my mom was safe and sound at JH that day before dinner. The following morning, I received a call from Lydia, her social worker, to walk me through how everything would be for my mom's rehab stay. Later that day, I received a call from Rabbi Feld who wanted to learn a bit about my mom (a Catholic) so he could make her feel comfortable and ensure that her spiritual needs were met while she was there. Over the course of her stay, I received updates each week and every question my mom or I had was answered. Upon discharge, Lydia made sure she spent time with me to cover everything that would happen over she was released. I cannot recommend the Jewish Home enough. Knowing that they go well beyond what is required sets them apart from everywhere else. As our parents get older, we are grateful we know there is a place nearby for them to be safe and cares for.

My mother was briefly in this facility recently. It was a shocking experience. The facility was run…read moredown and dirty. While everyone we met was very nice, several repeatedly verbalized how understaffed they are and how poor the facilities are. The air conditioning did not work, nor did the television remote. The room was clearly meant for one person and my mother was a second patient stuck in a small space. On more than one occasion her oxygen machine began to squirt water all over her face and one time when I reported it I was told "oh that is okay." I was shocked that anyone could walk in and out, even at 9 oclock at night. I appreciated the kindness of several staff members, but having a parent there was scary and we felt helpless. I am not sure if I would be writing a review if the above was the worst of it. Unfortunately, on the second day my sibling showed up at 1pm and found that my mother was still asleep. At that point we learned that she had not woken up at all that day for longer than a few minutes. When asked whether she had spoken at all we were told yes, she had repeatedly said "Help me." She was left in bed and ignored, and nobody told us. My sister tried to wake her up and eventually the daughter of another patient came to help her, but she would not wake. When she said she needed to return to the hospital she experienced resistance, and later my sister overheard staff talking about how stupid it was for her to leave. Needless to say, when she arrived at the hospital she ended up in ICU and we are still working to understand what happened. We are not able to comment on the quality of the rehab work since it never occurred. I do not question whether there are good people working at this facility (we saw it), but it is very clear that they lack the staff, training, and resources for the job. I will forever live with the guilt of allowing my mother to stay there, though.

Not recommended for Alzheimer's or dementia patients. Please visit on a weekend before making any…read moredecisions. Weekends and holidays are staffed by agency staffing with little training. There is very little Continuity of care from a weekday to a weekend. We have had medication issues as well as issues of my father left in bed for up to 18 hours because he is unaware of his situation and agency staffing do not attempt to get him up, dressed and taken to the bathroom. If your loved one cannot advocate for him/herself be prepared to spend weekends there helping. You become a volunteer on weekends and holidays.
