We shared their signature plate, the pork knuckle and it was delicious! I'm glad we shared it though cause it was a ton of food. The meat was tender and the skin was extra crispy. It's served with a delicious mustard sauce that goes well with the pork. It sits on a bed of mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies (cabbage, green beans and carrots). The beer selection is massive so it's also great for beer lovers. I would highly recommend this place to locals and tourists alike!

I actually wanted something 'lighter' but I asked for his recommendation, and of course he said the signature item that they are "famous" for. I also paired it with some whale, because I like eating protected and endangered species. The whale was the best part. Tastes like those cute little puffins, vaguely like a tender beef jerky. As for the caveman chunk of pork on a bone. Woof. I mean, it's good. The crackling is like pork rinds on steroids and the meat really did fall off the bone. The mustard sauce and the mashed potatoes were loaded with fat. However, the staff friendly and attentive. I love my meats, but this did not blow my mind. Would not go out of my way to come here, and I think the overall ratings are a bit generous.

This is definitely a cozy place to bring your family, your in laws or just some friends who do not mind venturing outside of the city for some really well tasting food!! I love sporting local restaurants, especially when it is a place I have grown up visiting with my parents and grandparents, and that might be one of the reasons I adore this place. The other reason I love Villa Sandvigen is because of the super delicious food, particularly their brown-cheese ice cream desert. Villa Sandvigen have been owned by a few different people, who all have cherished and developed the place into what it is today. A family friendly and local pearl. Their menu might be smaller than a lot of places, but just big enough for everyone to find something tasteful. Last I was here was for mothers day and they had a wonderful three course dinner special. We were greeted in the door by the owner, and catered by her throughout most of our meal. The other waiters were all very polite, expect one lady who kept bringing us someone else's food and really did not listen when we said that it was not ours. Definitely recommend their steak, it is cooked perfectly to your liking, and their potatoes and homemade béarnaise sauce, YUMMMM!!! They will split the dish for you if you want to share it with someone, especially children, and they go beyond to make you happy at Villa Solvigen!

They also brought out a starter and a side of roasted veggies on the house. Service: great service! They took our coats at the door, checked on us regularly, we're very kind, and even brought us those extra bites:) Ambiance: beautiful restaurant, looks like it's attached to a hotel. Definitely dressy-casual at least, it would be a great place for a work dinner or nice family gathering. Price: About $30 (300 NOK) per main course. Overall: absolutely loved it. Would highly recommend!

However, the restaurant does holds true to the grain free and gluten free concept of paleo. Food was very good. We were surprised that a complimentary starter of celery chips and prosciutto with wild mushroom mayo was served. Additionally - a side of beets was served for the entire table which was also part of the meal but not on the menu, so pleasant surprises. The food was delicious, everyone licked their bowl clean. The prices are to be expected in Oslo. I bought a bottle of wine, a starter, entre and dessert for $130 ( everything was for one person). Note - this is not a set menu but there are options for that. There is also an English menu - forgot to take a picture of it. Service was great, our waitress continually checked in on us and even though it was closing time, she still asked if we wanted another bottle of wine. Due to the good experience with dinner, we decided to come back for the breakfast buffet which I highly recommend. The options were plentiful (eggs, reindeer, sausage, charcuterie, fruit, juices, breads -influding gluten free, you just have to ask for it, see pictures attached). It is $30 for one person for the buffet and it was worth it! I would come here all the time for breakfast. Note - you don't have to be staying at the hotel to do the breakfast.

We did not have a reservation, but luckily they managed to fit us in at a shared table. This place is extremely popular so I would highly recommend making a reservation. To start, we ordered the cod croquettes to share. Perfectly fried and golden brown, these croquettes were absolutely delicious and the accompanying sauce paired perfectly. For our entrées, I ordered the fish and chips while my husband ordered the creamy fish soup and my father ordered the fish gratin. All three dishes were fresh and delicious, but I think the fish gratin was my favorite. So if you find yourself an Oslo looking for a delicious meal down by the water, come check out Fiskeriet.
