The shop was clean and inviting, and overall the experience was as comfortable as it could be! The artist says he does a lot of Scottish-themed tattoos for tourists (not pictured- we also got Loch Ness monsters lol) and he was very friendly about it (didn't make us feel like dumb tourists ) so I would suggest swinging in if you're traveling and looking for tattoo to symbolize your trip! Things did not go well from the…read morestart as I made an appointment with Lyle who then contacted me to reschedule - twice (both times for personal reasons). I then rescheduled for a 1pm appointment but when I arrived I was told that Lyle was with another client and the work was more intricate than he first thought. I was given the option of having the work done by Nathan - I was sceptical as he was young so I asked if he was sure he could do the work whereupon he showed me several photos on his phone of work he had done previously, most of which appeared to be well done. I wanted two words (the nickname for my daughter ), a four word phrase, two music notes and a small Texas Bluebonnet flower. Nathan said they had tattooed Texas Bluebonnets before so he knew what they were and what they looked like. I showed him a photo of a tattoo of a bluebonnet my daughter had recently had done and which was beautiful. Nathan, told me, after he had finished the tattoo that he had problems with my older skin (I'm 73) - if that was the case he should have stopped at the first sign of a problem so we could discuss how to proceed -- but he didn't. What I ended up with was thick lettering, the one single music more resembling an exercise hand dumbbell and the Texas Bluebonnet looking nothing like a flower, rather it looks like a hairy blue banana which is going a little mouldy along its green centre line. I have been in contact with Stu the owner, who did offer suggestions in the form of more music notes, but the tattoo itself is so ugly that additional work would be like trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I am now looking at over £1,000 to have the tattoo removed by a well-established dermatology business. As I am a pensioner, this is an extra cost I will have some difficulty paying, especially with today's excessively high cost of living. I suggested to Stu that perhaps I should be reimbursed the amount I paid to have this eyesore tattooed tattooed -- he said I should return to the shop and ask Nathan if he would reimburse the money. I live a considerable distance from Glasgow and with ferry fare, train fare and taxi I would have to pay out over £30 to return - and would Nathan reimburse my money - I doubt it. I may be a senior but I'm not stupid enough to throw good money after bad. Shame on you Stu, Nathan, Lyle and Hepcat Tattoo.

It's run by husband and wife team, Woody and Stef, and I had Stef work on me. It took over 4 hours for the whole thing, including breaks here and there, and I felt comfortable and in control the whole time. I was often asked if I was ok, needed to stop, wanted a drink, etc, in amongst a great chat that wandered through musical tastes, tattoo ideas and designs, stories of good and bad tattoo/piercing experiences...The 4 hours passed by extremely quickly! I am already keen to get back and get more! The service was warm and friendly, professional yet chatty. I'd definitely recommend it. And now a twist...Some of you may be wondering what a Luthier is? Well, that's a maker of musical instruments such as violins and guitars. Looking for a truly original, custom made guitar? Then this is the place for you! I have a love hate relationship with my tattoos. I have/had 2. One I love, it's my son's birthday -…read morethe other? A nice idea executed badly in a hurry and by a charlatan. Yes, a charlatan. I don't use that language lightly, folks... Thankfully, Screamin' Skull in Lanark advised me superbly. I wanted to get something tattooed round what I had, but my tattooist looked at it and where it was placed (off centre of my arm) and advised a cover up instead. I gave him 3 or 4 photos and a rough sketch of an idea I had to incorporate the old tattoo, and left it in his capable hands. I returned a week later to see the final draft, and was utterly blown away. His design was incredible, and included some negative space work which I'd never thought of to distract from where the covered part was. I paid the equivalent of 2 hours of custom work, but thanks to having to leave the first sitting because of bus times and school closing times, he was fine with me coming back and going slightly over time. I probably got double what I paid, and would happily have paid more (I tried to give him a bit extra, but he declined!) for what I got. The work was simply incredible. Quick, accurate, and extremely artful, it went above and beyond what I expected and hoped for. I've spoken to 2 or 3 friends who have several tattoos and they agree with me that this is excellent work, so it's not just post ink bliss, Honestly, if you're anywhere near the area and thinking of getting something done, I would not hesitate to recommend Screamin' Skull.
