My first cut with James and couldn't be happier - he is a knowledgeable, seasoned pro! Got a great long, layered cut in a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere with cool, morning jazz music playing - just a great vibe. Really appreciate Indigo's clear, informative website with upfront pricing and really useful stylist bios to make informed choices (this doesn't seem to be the norm elsewhere.) read more

great salon- worked with Safiya and I couldn't have asked for a more attentive and responsive hair professional. The place was HUGE, well lit, clean, and full of happy looking staff and employees. GREAT vibe (with a great view out over the waterfront too) important note: tips can't be put on your card so make sure you have cash or Venmo!!! read more

07/25/24 I saw, stephen yesterday, he is a delightful person. However, after showing a couple different photos, and saying expectations are pretty low, I still ended up with a lopsided cut (he admitted to, but i didn't want even more cut off) and NO WHERE NEAR THE SHOWN HAIRCUT... A long inverted bob..its elementary level... not difficult at all.... $70 plus tip.. find somewhere else to go. 07/27/24 Update, Thank you Hannah for your response to my review. I have noticed that my future appt has been cancelled, and I have not received an outreach from your front desk either. I can only infer that nothing was really going to happen, so I was wiped off the books, and brushed aside. It feels that way, if appearances don't coincide with actions. Over 3" were cut off all around, i had shown a pic that shows the front that i wanted as being longer, and that the back was to be shorten but not stacked... 3" should not have been cut from the front.... I was ok when he told me it would be flatter in the front, as that is what I expected.. all my hair was past my collar bone, now it's all above my shoulders... so now I am back to the drawing board of waiting another 8 months to grow this cut out. It is extremely frustrating and disappointing. read more

I give Indigo 2 out of 5 rating because a Level 4 Stylist can color but cannot cut well although you are told with confidence that they can. When I first arrived from New York last year, I was told that this was a great overall salon for color and cut. This is so untrue. For example, my friend who goes to Indigo, was on a business trip to Miami last week and had her hair cut there. The stylist told her that her hair was an inch longer on one side over the other. When she told me this, the lyrics to Beauty School Dropout came to mind. As for me, I let my hair grow out when I was home full time during the pandemic. After 7 months in Burlington, it was out of control and it needed to be cut. I made the mistake of asking for a long bob. My Level 4 went for it, although she should have advised me that the style was above her pay grade. Well, I suffered the same result as my friend with one side longer than the other. The salon offered a re-do, but, in my opinion, a big dog professional salon should get it right the first time. I know what a good haircut looks like because I used to go to Bumble & Bumble, Louis Licari and other top rated salons in NYC. I'm going back to New York for Memorial Day to let a real pro re-do my cut. Indigo, my advice to you is to send your stylists back for training, and afterwards, hopefully, your collective skill set will match your bravado. read more

So I went in asking for a partial foil . The stylist told me she would be performing a stand test should have Just tested a small piece of hair behind my ear . I kinda wondered why she put an entire large foil with bleach on the back of my head nd had me sit there at the sink with it on for over 20 minutes... I had showed her a picture and said I only wanted it lifted to a warm honey blonde. She showed me a little breakage that came off the very end of my hair and said she didn't think she could do anymore I was bright yellow . I said okay I understand. She offered me a color glossing of sorts to cover the bleach she put in my hair also didn't show me it was literally the whole back side dof my crown and never added color to cover the bleach . There are about several strands of blonde that she let me leave with knowing the rest of my head is medium brown . She did cut my hair but didn't even make it look good it's all boxy looking and she let me walk out of there with frizzy half blow dried hair when I told her I would please like it completely dried. I got home and looked at the back of my head not only are there several strands of blonde bright yellow the hair around it is all lifted to a light brown and everywhere else it's still medium brown . I called them this morning they tell me they need a photo. I said okay I'm not paying to have my hair fixed however. She says that is was not bleach that was put in my hair when I watched the stylist mix the bleach and I know what it is by the way it smells and looks because I'm a stylist myself it was infact bleach .So she lied to me and I told her okay so now your insulting my intelligence unbelievable. Then she puts me on hold and says she talked with all her stylists and I know that's a lie too and that they all refuse to add a little color to cover it up so now I have to either fix it myself or go to another salon. Never will I ever work with these people again . I know my own hair obviously and I know what it can handle as far as chemicals and color . So I know I do have pretty strong hair I know it can handle a little color it's thick and strong . I cannot believe how ignorant those people are . I literally walked outta there looking like a mess and they allowed me to. Aren't you supposed to be a professional and treat people the way you would want to be treated . Please don't waste your time with these people they just want to rip you off i got charged $100.00 just for a hair cut and a conditioner even . Wow complete rip off... Never again. read more

Non transparency of pricing, even after quoting the guest, the business has no problem charging a higher rate after the service. Unprofessional communication regarding appointment confirmations, waiting until 15 minutes before the appointment, to inform the guest they no longer offer the service, wanting guest to still keep the appointment as a consult at the same price. Do not bother trying to have a logical conversation with the owner because they will flip the issue to make you appear to be a difficult guest for wanting what you paid for. Indego has fallen dearly from the pedi stool it once held as Burlington's premiere salon. read more

Salon is beautiful. You can choose a barber based on sliding scale of experience/$$. I went with a mid-level stylist for $42; was not displeased, but wasn't amazed. Content. I have been seeing Shelby at Indigo for 20 years now and there are several reasons why I keep going. She is absolutely amazing! Her knowledge, experience and expertise are worth everything. I have very dry, thin, and curly hair. Not only has every cut she has done on me been great but she has helped me over the years to improve the health of my hair by finding the right products for me and giving me tips on how to treat it. Every time I come in, she greets me with a big smile and is so positive and fun to be around. What a gem! Also, at times over the years that I have not been able to see her, other stylists did a great job as well and even recommended a great product (for hair growth) from personal use that I ended up using for several years. And everyone, including the front desk staff, work like a well-oiled machine. Great place to go! read more

I would honestly give a zero but that was not a choice. I made an appointment and the salon booked it for the wrong date. I did not receive any of the calls (they did not text) about the appointment as I was not planning on the appointment being as soon as it was. When I finally noticed the call 30 mins after said appointment, it was too late. My $100 deposit was taken. When explaining the situation and how I was planning on the appointment being days later as that was the time we agreed upon, they did not return my deposit or put it towards another appointment. I do not recommend! read more

I had Hannah cut my hair today. Love her work. I'll definitely be using her as my hairstylist. Five stars and highly recommended.

I live out of town but have been to the salon several times before. I just called to book an appointment for a blowout EIGHT days from now, and was told there was just one appointment available that day. Did I mention this is eight days in advance? According to the website, the cost of a shampoo and blowdry is "from $25." The person on the phone told me the cost for this stylist (the only one available) would be $55. That's MORE than NYC prices. Thanks but no thanks. read more

The experience at Indigo, from making an appointment with an actual human who actually seemed to care about my business, to checking out where I could leave a tip without being monitored, was top-drawer! Alicia N, in particular, is knowledgeable, very skilled and obviously loves what she does! I have been getting my hair done at Indigo by Rosie G for almost 5 years now. Every time I go which is around 3 times per year, everyone at the front desk and all of the stylists are so so friendly. I always walk out of my appointments with my hair exactly how I wanted it, and the health of my hair is never compromised. The prices of my services have always been transparent as well and all prices are clearly listed on their website. The salon itself is obviously beautiful and I look forward to when I get my hair done because it's such a relaxing and comfortable environment. I always get compliments on my hair color, cut, and health and it's all thanks to Rosie and Indigo!! read more

Was told on the phone to plan for a 3.5 hr appt but when I got there, was informed it needed to be 5 hrs (I had sent an email of my hair but this email never reached the stylist). I was not able to stay for a 5 hr appt so we just did the cut and no color. During check-out, the receptionist was extremely rude, almost childish, even though it was a lack of poor organization and communication on their part. Will not be returning- aside from the unhappy stylists and the extremely snarky check out, felt like I was on a conveyer belt. read more

What a fun place to get your hair cut! Every chair has a gorgeous view of Lake Champlain (thanks to a wall of windows and smartly placed mirrors!) It's so bright, clean and organized! Friendly faces greet you the moment you walk in, coffee & tea are available while you wait (although I've never waited more than a moment or two). Local art hangs on the walls. Free parking underneath the building, street parking requires coins. Prices for services vary depending on which employee you have. The website is very informative, and I easily make appointments there. They have a rather deluxe hair color area, too, although I've never used that service. I randomly selected Rosie G when I first moved to this area, and I'm so thankful I did. She's cheerful & calm, easy to be around, makes every shampoo a wonderful, mini head massage, and the time in her chair is very much a refreshing experience. (I'm moving out of state now & wish I could transplant this salon to my new location. Thanks, Rosie G & Indigo for being great at what you do!) read more

I moved to Burlington from Boston 6 months ago and had yet to get a haircut here! I wanted to donate my hair and cut off 9 inches. After some online research, I decided to try out Indigo. I am so happy with my cut & style! I had Anna. She was so easy to talk to and did an amazing job. She listened to what I wanted done and did not make any changes without asking first. I will absolutely be returning for haircuts in the future! The salon is extremely clean and well decorated, making an appointment was easy, and they have very reasonable prices as well. Anna is awesome! :) read more

Indigo Salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Burlington, Vermont

I own a salon in NY, so it's always fun to be pampered somewhere else! I try to get a blow out each time I am in Burlington. This past weekend, I saw Anna I. As always, she did a wonderful job on my hair. She is a delightful conversationalist and I always feel marvelous leaving her chair. My daughter, who has 200 pounds of hair, saw Cassy. (Lucky for Cassy she had a keratin in January!) Bar none, I think it was THE best blow out she has EVER gotten. Fun, and flirty and a little bit of bounce on the bottom. My friend who also has 200 pounds of curly hair (and no keratin...) saw Kelsey. She was blown out and flat ironed. She too was delighted. From the minute you walk in until the minute you leave, the staff and the atmosphere welcome you. Thanks for always being so marvelous! read more

As others pointed out, it's a nice looking shop and location. I find though that they are quite expensive at $70 for a basic haircut without wash or styling after. I would pay that though for a good cut. The first time I went, the cut was actually PERFECT. It was flattering and worked well with my hair type, and I got many complements. I also did not have to do much to it for nearly 8 weeks! I went again recently to have the cut reshaped. It was with the same hairdresser, so she should have been able to follow her own style, but she didn't. I ended up with a less than flattering cut that always looks and feels wrong as the layering is not well blended or balanced. Too bad! This last cut was not worth the money paid, and at the price they charge, I don't want the cut to be lacking, or needing to be 'fixed'. I guess it's back to the Flowbee for me... at least if I make a mess I won't be out any money! read more

Indigo is a clean, welcoming space with a great view and a great selection of products. Anna Izzo was my stylist and she was fantastic! I highly recommend both Indigo as a salon and Anna! read more

I choose Indigio for my wedding hair salon because so many friends said it was the best in Vermont and there's so many great reviews here. I really wonder what went wrong. I called the salon and got pricing and asked them over the phone for prices specific to what my bridesmaids wanted, hair down, small braid in the front pulling the hair out of their face. They told me $60 each over the phone. I followed up by sending the photo to the wedding coordinator stating I wanted all the girls to have that braid. No email back about any issues, just confirming the appointments. I then prepaid for the ENTIRE wedding party at that rate. Fast forward to my trial session. It was great. LOVED my stylist, she got what i wanted figured out. Sara did my make up, she was AWESOME. No issues EXCEPT when I mentioned the photo I had sent, they didn't know what I was talking about but said they'd go into the emails and find it for Saturday. Then Wedding Day. Oh my, it hurts to think about. We all got there, sitting the chairs and all the stylists say to the girls "now what style are you looking to do?".. wait, what? Where is my photo? So we say "hot curl, down, braid down the front" like I had discussed less then a week before and one stylist storms at me and starts SCREAMING at me. I wish I was joking. She's saying that the small braid is going to cost me an extra $30 a person!!!!! She then demands I show her the email that states I sent the photos. Most of the other stylists are being totally cool about the issue and not sure what the big deal is but this one stylist is yelling at me. By now, I'm between fuming and crying. Finally, the manager finally came over to apologize and asked the girl to do the braid but the way she said it didn't make me feel better and we've now wasted 15 minutes arguing. By the end, everyone looked great, amazing even, EXCEPT my bridesmaid who had the bitchy stylist. My girl tried to work with this stylist to do something flattering and she was consistently argumentative and condescending. When she left the building, she was ready to cry because her hair was flat and the braid was half-assed! I can't comment on their Day-To-Day operations but be cautious booking your wedding party here. It's not worth the stress on your special day. read more

So after I moved to central Vermont, I continued to drive 90 minutes down to my guy in Massachusetts to get my hair cut. "Wow," you are thinking, "Jae L. is either crazy or has the world's most awesome hair stylist in Boston." Maybe a little of both. See, I have Asian Super-Straight Hair. Worse, it was super short because I had just donated it to Wigs for Kids, and I am still trying to grow it out. Now, I think you actually have to be an Asian with super-short hair to understand what a delicate position I was in. For the rest of you, I want you to imagine, in your mind's eye, the politically incorrect, stereo-typical image of the 13-year-old nerd Asian boy that was in your college calculus class. Remember him? See his hair? See how it sticks straight up at a 90 degree angle to his skull, like he has been electrocuted? Yes, that is what I look like with a bad, short, Asian hair cut. That's what I get from stylists who are not familiar with the strange behavior of super-course, super-straight Asian hair. My guy Jimmy in Dellaria specializes in short Asian hair cuts. But then we move to the Burlington area, and even I can no longer justify driving all the way down to MA for a haircut anymore. So I do my research and find out about Indigo. And in some review somewhere, I read that James is an artist. So I call Indigo and ask who would be the best stylist for short Asian hair, and they tell me James. Nevertheless, I am nervous. Will James understand that coarse Asian hair does not act like the hair of other races? Will James understand my intense fear of looking like Long Duck Dong? Will I have to wear hats everyday for the next year of my life? James, it turns out, does know. James totally knows the peculiarities of Asian hair, especially when short. James knows nerd-boy of whom I speak and fear looking like. And he is, indeed an artist. I have been to him three times, and each time I have loved my haircuts as much as I am able to love any of my short hair cuts. ("Oh, Jae L," you ask, "why do you donate your hair, if you hate your hair being short?" I have no answer for you or for me. I ask myself the same thing every morning. And yet, I have donated it three times, each time swearing I will never do it again...) But James is pricey, and is scheduled to become pricier -- I believe it is moving up to $70. Now, coming from Boston, this is nothing. But I understand that is a pretty ballsy price to ask around here. To me, it is worth $70 to not look like a 13-year-old male nerd. But you may not have this problem or need this level of arcane skill in your hair stylist. So let me say that I look at other patrons as they are getting their hair cuts or are paying on their way out -- and they all look pretty good. But here is another thing I love about James -- he is wicked smart, well read, and a great conversationalist -- not just about your personal life, though he will remember, from visit to visit, everything about you and your last conversation. We talk about everything -- our work, nutrition, books, the meaning of life, the purpose of pain. The man is deep. The staff is unfailingly polite and cheery. Some of the receptionist staff are down-right hilarious. And I love that they call me one or two days before my appointment to remind me. Bonus for Mothers Of Small Children -- I have seen several MOSCs here with their SCs standing by their side, sitting and coloring on a nearby chair, or even sitting on the mom's lap. So it seems pretty kid-friendly. Granted, all the kids were very good and quiet. You know your kid, and you should judge if your kid can handle it and not disturb other patrons. Great location, easy parking, good products, great staff -- and you don't even have to drive all the way to Boston. read more

Yet another great experience at Indigo! This was my fourth visit and the fourth stylist I've used (only because I tend to book at the last minute based on availability), and I have been impressed by their professionalism and expertise each and every time. I met with Nicole this time for a haircut, and I was so appreciative of the time she took to discuss my hair type, products, and styling. Didn't hurt that she was upbeat and fun to talk to! I tend to have low expectations when it comes to blow outs (just because my hair is naturally frizzy and just plain difficult), but she nailed it! A great experience to end the year. Thanks, Nicole! read more

They were nice enough, but the girl who dyed my hair didn't do a great job. She just did a few foils to lighten things up, but my hair is dark and she did a pretty crappy job blending it. She was drying my hair and totally ignored the fact that you could see a straight line across where the highlight started. When I pointed it out to her she didn't apologize or anything, but seemed kind of pissy and said "do you just want to cover it up?" and also sounded like she almost wouldn't do it because she had another customer coming in right after me. So basically I was there for two hours and my hair came out looking worse and she had to cover up most of what she did! I just wish she would have owned up to it when she was drying my hair and apologize and offer to fix it instead of me having to point it out and ask. If I was her I wouldn't want someone walking around with that hair with my name on it! But yes, they do have a good view. read more

Read this like I'm screaming. Do not use this salon! Just got home looked in the mirror and my hairline is red! I have been getting blonde highlights for almost 20 years and never experienced someone turning my hairline red. I'm mortified! I have to travel for work like this next week! When I called to have them fix it, there was no manager to speak with and no sense of urgency, they said they were pretty booked up. Don't take a chance with this salon. read more

Let me start by saying that I have never been good at getting a haircut; I wait months and months in between, usually because I've gotten a cut that I end up not liking or knowing how to style later, leaving me nervous for the next cut. I decided to seek out a new salon for my latest cut, and Indigo had some great reviews. My appointment started with a quick tour of the salon, being shown the bathroom, coat area, water/tea & cups, and where to sit and wait for my stylist. My time with Sara P. started with a consultation during which she asked what I was looking for, surveyed my hair, looked at photos of cuts I liked, etc. I told her I was hoping for something that didn't require heat styling, and that she could recommend some products for me that would work with my hair texture & lack of styling habits. I enjoyed the adjustable wash chairs and short scalp massage during the shampoo! Sara was awesome about teaching me how to handle my hair and style it without using heat tools, and recommended some products to me without being pushy at all. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and professional, and the space itself is very nice! Sadly it was a gray/snowy type of day, so I didn't really get to enjoy any lake views. I will definitely recommend Indigo to friends and family! read more

While it's a beautiful space and a nice salon overall, I've just had super average haircuts and super average waxing experiences here. I've tried different people at different price levels and still felt "meh" about my four or so cuts from here. Nothing was bad, I just didn't love them and they didn't grow out as well as some cuts I've gotten. However, they have a great selection of products to buy! Something to note (that I always forget) is that they only take tip via cash or check, you can't put it on your card. read more

I had my hair and makeup done there with two other members of a bridal party this past weekend. As I was turned around the entire time, I didn't notice until the very end that my updo was quite poorly done (hair wasn't curled so straight pieces were sticking out, no volume added, hair just mashed into place with hairspray). In fact, I ended up completely taking it out a redoing it myself frantically before wedding started. In addition, I was quoted and prepaid one price, but after services were completed, I was told that I owed more since they put me with a higher level stylist. All three of us that had our hair done there that day by three different stylists all had our hair falling out of of the updos into a sloppy mess by mid day. Sincerely disappointing since this wasn't an inexpensive service. read more

Decent cut but really quite misleading with their pricing structure. Prices go by "level" of stylist. I made an appointment with a mid level stylist and turns out she had graduated to the next level. I didn't know this until part way through my cut when I saw her certification. Nice atmosphere and I loved getting offered some wine before my cut. Also, a tip on tips...you can't tip on your card.
