As for the food we experienced, it was fresh and flavorful and the residents all appeared to be more than satisfied with their meals. My family member also had to participate in the therapy department, each therapist was very involved with each resident and each therapist demonstrated a very strong professional image. When my grandparents moved here less than 3 years ago, they instantly regretted their decision but…read morefelt trapped after selling their home, possessions and liquidating their assets and have therefore stayed. Allowing this to remain was one of the worst decisions my family ever could have made. The food is decent at best and the food service staff in majority is poor, as is their current hostess. She shows inherent favoritism where residents who "play the game" through flattery, begging and bribery receive assistance, while others do not. The other residents are ignored or keep their concerns to themselves for fear of repercussion. The residents are spoken down to in rude tone of voice, things are muttered at them under their breath or are ignored altogether. Tonight two servers said "what do you expect? I'm busy!" to two tables who asked for their drinks having not received them half way through their meals. When I inquired about this I was told it was because they were "short staffed" and our waitress had to cover 6 tables. Nevertheless, order of operations is to bring drinks first and then food. Additionally, especially in a medically fragile population, food without a beverage is a choking hazard. When I asked the hostess, who acts as the "manager" she shouted while walking by our table that she didn't know why it was "any of my business", a comment that is both rudely unnecessary and ignorant. My grandfather is and will ALWAYS be my business, As are all people who are being treated unkindly or unfairly, as it is part of my code of ethics as a medical professional and my charge as a decent human being. Additionally, the apartment buildings are poorly maintained and often smell. Despite having cleaning services, the apartment is generally dirty and requires that we clean it ourselves, despite the fact that my grandfather at 90 still vacuums daily, he cannot clean the bathrooms as it is a safety risk for his to bend over and scrub. I often wonder if we should hire additional outside cleaning services, as whenever I come to visit their are mold rings in the toilet bowls, dust everywhere and he is often told to "stay out of her way or leave" so she can clean. Management staff is difficult to contact, as evidenced by the fact they don't even list their numbers on their website in a contact directory. I cannot encourage you enough to look for other placement for your loved ones, I rather beg of you.

Instead, our experience has been deeply concerning: minimal follow-through on rehab, poor staffing, and food that was unacceptable for someone recovering and needing proper support. If you see the same lack of care or feel your concerns are being ignored, consider contacting your insurance company and Florida Adult Protective Services. They were done with him now that he was not a resident. He spent most of the time in his room, depressed, and it was pitiful from one day. He called me and thought he was having a stroke and I had to call back and find the nurses station because nobody had responded to him! If you care about someone, do not send them to this place!!! The dining is restaurant style and the food is good, specifically the daily specials. They often have holiday and birthday celebrations and entertainers. They offer daily craft activities, daily movies and off site events. I have found the nursing staff truly cares for my dad. If they have concerns they will call me. My father has utilized their on-site physical therapy, physician, hair salon and podiatry. One area of improvement would be with the P/T company, H2Health needs to communicate and schedule more efficiently. I visit OFTEN and I believe the staff truly cares about the residents. Two words of advice, make sure your loved one is on the level of medical care that makes you feel comfortable. There are levels and you can request a higher level if you feel it is needed. Also, visit often. The staff will get to know you as well as your loved one.

However, if memory care is needed, Aden is not yet there. The staff in memory care is also lovely, but not equipped to deal medically with all of the needs of dementia and Alzheimer's patients. If memory care is what you need, go to Paradise Point in Ormond Beach, excellent with full-time nurses and higher levels of care.
