Folk art (now more often called outsider art) is one of my favorite genres. I love the edginess,…read morethe roughness. The lack of refinement. At first I was not excited because the first couple of exhibits were southwestern themed (it's a me thing, not a them thing, it's just not my style or particular area of interest). A lot of pottery and Mexican/southwestern blankets. They also had a couple of other rotating exhibits. But then I entered their main exhibit. It's a GIANT room with winding pathways full of folk figurines and scenes. Western scenes, English scenes, Indian, indigenous, Mexican, African. All types. Many presentations of whole worlds throughout this room. My primary complaint is what others have voiced: most of it is exhibited without any context. There is a bare bones basic museum guide you can get at the exhibit entrance, but it still doesn't really tell you much about each scene. I can't remember what I paid, but it was less than 20 dollars. It's also on museum hill, so you can catch a couple other museums while in the area. This spot is away from the main drag for sure. I had to take a Lyft. The staff was helpful and super kind. I had forgotten my credit card at a restaurant and had to leave and go get it. They didn't make me pay a second time for coming back in, and I really appreciated that. Probably my favorite and most impactful museum in Santa Fe. Probably spent a couple of hours here. Very worthwhile, even without the in depth explanations. Enough eye candy to make up for it.

I have never been to a purely folk art museum before, so this was cool to see and definitely opened my eyes to more of what folk art is and exposed me to some new concepts. My one wish is that there would be more explanations about the art piece, such as who made it, meaning, where it was found, year, etc. Some pieces had this but it wasn't consistent throughout (and I am sure that info is hard to know so I get why). Located in Museum Hill near the botanical garden, this is a great place to visit and definitely felt like a unique draw to the area.

They have basically 3 showrooms. 1 of the rooms was dedicated to Foto Fest, but after spending a whole day looking at photos the other art was what stood out in my mind. There were many scultures in the back, paintings in the front, and the photos on the side. My favorite thing here was the bronze chess set. It was of the jungle as the Lion as the king and an elephant as the queen. Simply AMAZING. The curators of this place were awesome too. Very welcoming and didn't make you feel like you were wasting their time or going to steal something. They had soft music playing in the background too. My favorite upper kirby gallery by far!

Marin Feather Art was our favorite gallery on Canyon Rd. Everyone needs to go in there and see all…read morethe beautiful pieces that she created. Her creations are true works of art. She collects bird feathers all over town, puts them together and paints beautiful pictures and sceneries. If you dont have the funds for one of her true pieces of art, you can also buy one of her paintings that reflect those same paintings. The most interesting part of it all is that she Has only been painting for three years, is self taught and does it all free hand. That makes her art even more fascinating and admirable. She has a true passion for what she does and has definitely found her calling. She also such a lovely person. My husband and I really enjoyed talking to her. Do yourself a favor and check out her shop. It's absolutely magical. I could have spent hours there looking at all her beautiful creations. Santa Fe is so lucky to have such a talented artist on Canyon Rd.

He started off as a wood carver and over time his process evolved to the point where his carvings are also paintings. The wonderful staff in the gallery encourages you to touch these framed wood works (they are well-varnished) to optimize your enjoyment of the work with as many senses as possible. The gallery itself is in a beautiful Santa Fe landmarked house on Canyon Road. Be sure to check out the works shown in the fireplace room toward the back garden. Another artist who works in the same medium, Kimo Minton, is also shown. His works are also beautiful, but frankly not in the same league as Gaugy's.

The Garden is a stunning, peaceful, and unique art installation. I've been fascinated with origami since I was a child and to see massive origami sculptures spread across the garden is so amazing. Each piece tells a beautiful story in front of the backdrop of the New Mexico landscape. I am so glad that I've been able to visit twice in the last month. I've had such a good time walking through the beautiful garden and listening to the large chimes on the trees and reading the pieces. There's also beautiful depiction of unfolded origami, which is so unique and stunning. If you make the stop, I recommend visiting the gift shop. They have tons of origami paper to choose from paper, crane decor, sculptures for purchase and paintings for purchase. I purchased one of their double happiness, double crane red T-shirts and it's a new favorite of mine.

Turns out she was not only one of the owners but also the artist that painted one of the prints. After I learned that I was really disappointed that she was so disinterested in the customer experience- especially since I'm planning to buy a Kirk Buchanan original once one I want comes on the market. I'm not buying it from Art Mozaik though.
