I prefer the Indiana Jones Police, but they're off digging in Egypt for buried treasure, so this will have to do. I have had nothing but extremely negative experiences with the Indiana State Police. I've been stopped many times over the years, and some states and departments are worse than others, but when these guys pull me over I almost always get the maximum ticket for any offense they can figure out or trump up. Even worse was this... as an example: when I was late for a concert in Cleveland, he not only wrote me a speeding ticket, but after hearing that I had a concert and fans waiting, proceeded to search every inch of my car for about 45 minutes, taking his time as much as he possibly could. He decided to do that when I honestly told him I had been in a hurry and I was sorry. He did it because he could and he made me very late for the show. As it happened, not many people showed up anyway, but I don't forget things like that. To me these guys are representative of their Department, and if their mission in life is to make life miserable for honest people with nothing to hide, then they're doing a great job. read more

Foreword: I don't have (much of) a problem with cops. I've had run-ins of both the good and bad variety; since I lost my traffic ticket and have NO idea what township it was issued in/near, I'm just arbitrarily choosing a location for the ISP. That said..... *cue booing, hissing, raspberry noises, general disgruntledness* How bad are the Hoosier state troopers? Bad enough to issue me a citation for going 82 in a 70, on a deserted highway, at night? Nope, worse. Bad enough to write my mom a ticket for going 66 in a 55? Still worse than that. Bad enough to cite my dad for talking on his hands-free phone in a construction zone? Keep going. The Indiana State police are so sh*tty......they have absolutely no reservations about writing tickets TO OTHER COPS. Most law enforcement officials will let you go about your way if you flash your badge, because they have better things to do than cite a fellow officer (like tracking down chainsaw murderers and whatnot). Not these guys. In fact, I'm pretty sure they revel in ruining people's days, cop or otherwise. When I got pulled over (for going the speed of traffic), there was no "do you know why I stopped you?" or "I'm Officer ____ of the _____, can I please see your driver's license and registration?" Barked at me for my DL, came back a few minutes later with a computer printout and tossed it through my open window. No explanation of what the violation was, who HE was, what the next step is to clear the ticket, etc. Beyond that, the ticket was vague and offered little insight on what to do next. I get it, they're just doing their job. But they're doing it so OBjectively, I think they've lost sight of the fact that they're still human beings with the capacity to make SUBjective decisions. I've heard stories of the IN state police citing people for doing no more than ten miles over the speed limit and other such nonsense. No one I know--friends or family--has had a good experience with Indiana's finest. Even a badge-wearing buddy of mine has stated "yeah, these guys can be real bastards." Rudely hung up the phone on me when I asked follow up questions regarding my car which was towed after 3 state police heard me over the phone with my insurance agency scheduling a tow truck to get my vehicle the same day. I have already been lied to over the phone with who ever was working the phone last night on 02/15/2021 saying the person I needed to talk to would be in in the morning and they aren't in at all. Secondly I wasn't informed about the whereabouts of my vehicle and that it was going to be towed as well. I sat in limbo for over several without knowing what is going on. The 3 state police officers and one sherif failed to mention that there was a possibility that they themselves would take the responsibility into their own hands and tow my vehicle anyways. I told them that someone was on there way to come pick me up and that there was someone sent out by my insurance agency to tow my vehicle out of the ditch. I was told that I was able to leave the scene and the sherif tagged my car as well. I had my insurance agency handle it because I can't afford for the the police to have somebody else tow my car and the state police officers understood and canceled their call to send one out but still sent one out with out my knowledge. read more
