After discovering that the Ice House restaurant was all booked up, we walked down the river road to…read moreget to Crockett's. It's what I tend do think of when I think of an Irish pub -- dark wood, etc. We ended up being seated in a room away from the bar, which was fine, but it was also in a room that was playing some...out of context music. For example, hearing 50 Cent's "In da Club" was not expected. Perhaps it was really "In da Pub." Food was good - not exceptional, but good. My seafood chowder was a nice medium broth with mostly fish, but good sea food flavor, and seemed thickened with potato for accuracy. Served with some super dense brown bread which was great dipped in the soup. Fish and chips were a very generous cod fillet in nice crispy batter. The fish was tasty, well cooked, and the batter wasn't too greasy or soggy. Chips were good, but didn't have much of any flavor. Maybe not the best potatoes? Others commented that their salmon was...OK. Fried brie (what could possibly be wrong with that) was reported as excellent, as was a special Cajun chicken terrine starter. Service was a little slow, but we weren't in a hurry. I don't know how to adjust my service expectations for here vs. the US, but it sounds like it's just a slower pace, and that's fine. They were just starting trivia (the pen and paper kind, too, none of this automated electronic scoring stuff) when we left about 10pm, but we left as we figured it might be over the heads of two Americans, a German, a Dane, and an Englishman. Would I come back? Yes. There are other good looking things on the menu to try, but there are also some other spots in town I'll probably try first. But certainly nothing bad here.

I will definitely be eating there again, well done to all staff and management, very efficient and fast service and very reasonable. Just blown away.

Melly's Café was recommended to us by a local when we asked for a good fish and chips place. We…read morestopped in after a long day of hiking and looked forward to eating. Expect plentiful seating and table service. Most of our party of six ordered fish and chips. Two others ordered burgers and chips. Everything arrived hot and fresh. The fish looked huge and the chips were abundant. Unfortunately, as the hungry souls started to down their portions, they noticed that the batter didn't seem to be thoroughly cooked, or the fish contributed to the soft coating. The chips, however, were perfect! I chose the 6 oz burger with slaw and iceberg lettuce and no pink sauce (ketchup and mayo combined) and curry chips. The curry sauce brought a nice heat. The burger was pretty plain, even with the slaw and toasted sesame bun. I dressed it up with ketchup. They didn't have any mustard. Our server was friendly and helpful at the beginning, but she never stopped by again. Someone else delivered the meals and we didn't see her again. Maybe this is how service works in Ireland? Disappointing. But, maybe we caught them at a bad time and our party of six was too difficult to manage. We will never know.

A quaint looking place along the harbor. Our tour group stopped in for lunch (we're glad to give a…read morelocal place some business). Just a small- looking plave. I had a hankering for some chowder or some fish n chips. We saw a plate of fish and chips being brought to the table behind us and boy, was it big. About 12 euros and we decided to split it (even that was probably enough for 3 people). Friendly staff and great food

Well. Did I go to Sligo expecting to find The World's Best Salad?! No I did not. Did I like it so…read moremuch that I returned three times in TWO DAYS to get THE SAME SALAD?! Yes. Yes I did. Roll call for The World's Best Salad: It was their seasonal salad that's written up on the board. Goats cheese, candied walnuts, greenery, I got some chicken on top (gotta have that protein!), and the kicker, fresh strawberries with their homemade balsamic. The combination of flavours and textures are exquisite. I dare you to try it and say that it's not The World's Best Salad. Dare ya. Besides the food (which genuinely might be the best cafe food I've eaten in Ireland), the staff are incredibly friendly. Honestly it felt like eating in a friend's house. So hospitable, and chatty, and even though you will nearly always have to wait for a table, they are so damn nice, you really don't care. Plus, you can wait in their shop area next door - a cunning plan of theirs, as it's stocked with so much cool stuff, you'll likely spend your money there before you even sit down for food. But the kicker is, the stuff is SO cool, you won't care! (Pro tip; I got a bottle of their balsamic vinegar which is insanely good (and insanely addictive - you've been warned!)

So: WE LOVE THIS PLACE! It's been the first café we visited…read morewhen we moved to Ireland from Italy, on our first trip to the seaside. And everytime friends or family come to visit us we bring them here and never come back home disappointed (well, actually just one last Sunday. I'll write that too). I like the atmosphere, I like the colors, I like the shop full of fancy items. The goat cheese sandwich is really good. Fish 'n chips is crunchy and well fried. The seafood chowder is one of the best I've eaten here in Ireland. The hand cut chips and the fried potatoes with parmesan and rocket are good. The eggs arnold and the egg and soldier are so good looking and so tasty. However, last Sunday we came here again for lunch and we had a chowder and the "Fish Finger Sambo". Honestly, I thought would have been a completely different dish and I didn't really get the chips in the sandwich that were too many respect the fish itself. Which was a good one. Anyway, it doesn't change my mind on the Shells!
