You get a True Cord (upon request) and they are honest and upfront that their "baskets" are measured for the smaller "Short Cord". I wanted to pay for and receive a full cord - and I did. If you don't know, a "cord" has a specific definition - that some outfits will argue with you about - or try to stack the wood really loosely. I've attached a pic of what they delivered. Its an honest "cord" upon request. It's high quality Oak, not the sometimes waterlogged and mud-soaked splintered shattered odds and ends you get from other places. I just cannot recommend them more highly.

Shopping for rock is more tedious than one might believe. Do you need big and flat? Thick and…read moreflat? More symmetrical? Smaller but stackable? And that's just the beginning. What about color? Don't get me started on color! There are wide variations of color even among the same type of rock. Take moss rock for example. It can vary widely from orange earth tones to darker brown and hot every shade in between. All of this variation brought me to E.D.S (it three letters; not Ed's). E.D.S has the absolute widest selection of any rock I have seen at one location. There are three locations in the Houston area. There's one in Katy, Kemah, and Southeast Houston on Dixie Farm Rd. We went to multiple businesses looking for the right rock. We kept coming back to something that we found at the Dixie Farm Road location. With all the variation in rock that I mentioned above, this is one area that I am not willing to skimp when it comes to picking the right color. I wanted something that was stackable and small enough that I could use it to outline my three flowerbeds in my front yard. I wanted a color that matched the brick and trim on my house. Of all the places I went to, EDS is the only one that had the color and selection that I wanted. They even had multiple pallets of what I wanted which allowed me to choose not only color but size of rock that I wanted. If you are purchasing a lot of rock, it is cheaper to purchase by the pallet load. I purchased two complete pallets and paid $.19 per pound. If I were to buy the rock loosely off the pallet and not purchased the entire pallet, it would be around $.25 per pound. Moss rock is the most economical and varies between $.13 and $.15 per pound. However, moss rock is not what I needed so I paid more and got exactly what I wanted. Like I mentioned above, there are some things that I will hunt for value and other things I want to get exactly what I need and not skimp on price. This is one of those times. You can also pay to have them deliver it to your house with a forklift. Price varies depending on where it's going. Bottom line - excellent selection of rock for your landscape needs. Price varies depending on what you are purchasing. It is less expensive to purchase by the pallet. Delivery is available. I hope you find this review helpful.

I've been going to J&J for as long as I can remember. I'm actually the 3rd generation of my family…read moregoing there. As I kid I used to go with my grandfather when he needed a new mower or something repaired. When I was 12, I started my little lawn maintenance business. David (owner) was there with me at every step of the way. I bought my first professional grade lawnmower, weed eater, blower, edger... you name it, and I bought my first pro-quality one there. I didn't just buy my equipment there, I also went there to get things repaired -- usually those things that I already owned or had bought elsewhere. I could always count on them to do quality fixes at a reasonable price. Too often nowadays, people think things should be cheap, but quality is worth its weight in gold, and J&J has always had that in spades. David does get busy, so you may have to wait a little while if you come during a peak time, but you know that when he does take care of you, he's going to do it well. It's what has kept me coming back for over 19 years. If you go more than once, you will become friends with David: he's just that kind of guy. It's great that places like these still exist where you aren't a number; where the owner knows your name; and where you know that you will get great service every time. I am still kicking myself for not going to Houston Hardwoods first. I ended up going to a competitor in the Heights first, and I was shocked when they gave me the price for dimensioned walnut. I ran out of there and first thing Monday morning, I called Houston Hardwoods and spoke to John. I explained what I needed for the project and then told him what the competitor was charging. He said that seemed high and then gave me Houston Hardwoods' price. I about jumped out of my chair because the competitor was about 50% more. John told me that he would pick out some nice boards for me and have everything dimensioned. I was a little wary in not being able to pick out the boards myself, but shouldn't have been. They were ready the next day and I went to pick them up. True to his word, the boards looked great. I ended up finishing the table top and it turned out great. The wood was beautiful, the service was excellent. If you want beautiful wood at a great price, I would recommend Houston Hardwoods.

When it arrived it was filled with large clay deposits approximately 5-10 inches in size. I had to spend days chopping up the clay. I had hoped that was an anomaly, much to my chagrin. Earlier this year I purchased a full truckload of their "garden mix" soil which was touted by the owner as great garden soil different types of compost. I was very excited about it. I spent a year assembling nine raised beds for a high production organic garden. The dirt was nothing but mulch and sticks. I thought I might be incorrect so I had the "dirt" (or should I say, sticks) analyzed. It literally had no nutritional value. Now I have to remove 12 yards of cheap mulch and will lose the growing season. I should have read Yelp reviews (i.e. Melanie C from 2013). It appears this has been going on for awhile.
