I used to go here years ago and it was a great place back then. Great YMCA. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Overpriced, crazy that you pay extra for yoga, inconvenient class times, and free weight room feels like an unfriendly sausage-fest.

I just joined here a few weeks ago, and although I haven't tried everything that the club has to…read moreoffer what I can tell you is that it has everything I need... and more. I joined this club because I have been a high-end fitness club member for many years. When I moved here from California, I tried the LifeTime in Burr Ridge and quickly quit because the place was so filthy and crowded all the time. Forced to take some time off due to a medical issue, I began examining my gym options once again in the area. Score Sports down the street from my house wouldn't even answer membership inquiries (I filled out two), I didn't like what the Country Clubs in the area had to offer, and Five Seasons didn't seem like my vibe. I walked into Midtown and immediately saw that it was a great place for me to get my workouts done in an environment I'm accustomed to. The other bonus is that I don't have to pay extra fees for childcare, which added up big time at other gyms between my four children. Do I wish they had a well developed hot power vinyasa program geared toward master yogis? Yes. But what I'm really here for is the weight room, the fact that I have a spot I can do CrossFit WODs on my own, or I can join a variety of classes from spin to Pilates if it works with my schedule. This gym is a lot smaller than the gym I was a member at in California for many years, but I like the fact that it's a bit more quaint and exclusive. People are really just here to workout, just like I am. I like that. I'm not at the gym to be social, I'm there to achieve my fitness goals. As an aside, their Kidtown allows food from the Cafe to be ordered and delivered to your children. This means I can come around lunch time when the kids are out of school, feed them lunch, AND I GET TO WORKOUT! The only caveat is that because my 8-month old isn't walking yet, the kids can only stay for 90 minutes. But when the little one is walking I'll have 2 1/2 hours of freedom -- and that to me is priceless.

PROS: The staff! Really their best asset is their friendly…read morestaff members who get to know you. This includes wonderful trainers who can take you from zero to hero as far as someone who NEVER works out, to someone who can develop a fitness routine. Programs: Lots of great programs like Tennis-In-No-Time, swim lessons for kids, and as I said before, great trainers you can book to achieve your personal goals. Tons of equipment to choose from in a bright, open space. Some regulars you can get to know and learn techniques from. CONS: Pool area feels too "open". Don't need peep windows all around the pool. I felt weird swimming in there so I never did. Close it off. Management change up/corporate vibe. Don't let you even hold your account for a month now (even though they used to). It's a pricey, luxury gym with clients that pay more to get more so making people jump through tons of hoops to hold a month for travel, work, etc doesn't gel with that vibe. If you give a months notice this should allow plenty of time to adjust staffing. You have to pay extra for a lot of stuff, so in order to use a lot of what really makes a gym like this worth the extra $ in the first place, you have pay EVEN MORE. Otherwise you are mostly utilizing equipment, classes, and such that you can get at other gyms for way less.

New gym in downtown Downers Grove! Conveniently located near the Downers Grove Main Street train…read morestation and Egg Harbor. The gym features a variety of classes (including cardio, strength training, etc.). I tried the "Gonna Make You Sweat" class--it is a good mix of cardio, strength training, and core work. The gym has all new equipment (treadmills, stair climbers, rowers, free weights, racks, etc.). The gym utilizes the latest technology in personalized fitness through the use of heart monitors. Each gym user has the option of wearing a heart rate monitor and the data is displayed on the gym screen during the workout session. The software actively tracks your heart rate in comparison to your target heart rate. At the end of the workout, you receive an email with your workout stats (e.g., average minimum and maximum heart rate, heart zones during the workout, etc.). The data links into the MAR fitness app on your smartphone, so you can track your stats workout-to-workout. The gym amentities include single user bathrooms (shower included) and lockers with built-in combination key pads. Ample parking given the gym's close proximity to the Downers Grove Downtown Parking Garage and the train station parking lot (available during the evening hours and on the weekends). Great for commuters and for those who want a fresh take on fitness!

Semi-private classes (6 or less for strength classes), which provides for a private coaching feel without the price. The programming is excellent and well planned (and injury-friendly for us 40+ ers). True personal service and a boutique feel. Can't recommend them enough!

So far I've had great experience with this LT, and I've been to all of the LT's in Chicagoland…read more It's one of my favorites because not only is it high end but very spacious. Many gyms feel claustrophobic but not this one. I used to go to every X Sport in Chicagoland and will never go to Planet fitness, mainly because they are too crowded and smell. I read all of these 1-star reviews for this facility and it's a joke, such as things being stolen from locker, or cleanliness. This won't happen at the cheaper gyms? Those all they smell worse, have more broken machines, you have to wait longer for machines, and the members are shady or dirtier. You won't see members wearing jeans to work out at LT I guarantee you that. Of course this gym is more expensive but you get what you pay for.

It feels that the members are paying for more maintenance vs increased services or equipment... I've had an especially hard time losing the many pounds I packed on due to taking mood stabilizers. Frustrated and desperately seeking a program that would help me shed pounds for my upcoming wedding, seeing Liz's video was a call to my soul! I decided to fully commit to the program and hope for the best... In 6 weeks, I lost just over 11 lbs! I love the Opposing Force familia. They are a quirky group but they keep things entertaining! The workouts with Jake and Cody continue to kick my butt every morning. Your sore muscles will be a testament that it's working! It's great that you get individualized coaching on your form even in a class setting. The nutrition plan provided by Liz really does get results! I also love that the trainers are constantly checking in with you, ready to answer questions and keep you on your game. This family is a fun one: they have themed workouts for holidays and put together extra contests to help everyone achieve their goals. I'll be sticking with this gym for the long run because of the results!

However I only lost about 3 % body fat as well as the $500 I paid upfront for the 6 week program. The nutrition component was missing and I did not feel very welcomed by the nutrition expert. Cody also gave me some advice on nutrition which was a little helpful. The one plus I got from this program was that I started lifting weights for the first time in my life. The workouts are all amazing however. EXPENSIVE but if you can afford it and have your diet down, totally give them a try.
