Asian restaurants like these you will find a lot in London, but in Amsterdam you can count them on half your hand. So we needed more places like this. It is the younger sister restaurant of the famous Asian restaurant Dynasty.( and same owner of Bo Cinq and Lion Noir. All restaurants i love) The food is a mix of Asian flavors. Vietnamese, Cantonese, Thai, Japanese and Indonesian. All small portions so you are able to share and try a lot. Loved the mixed crowd. A relaxed atmosphere and a very cosy interior. Hope for me that it does not get to popular ;-)

The quality and quantity are definitely not worth the price. I've had much better Asian food in other places. What's more, they do not really get that chicken is actually meat as they brought chicken as a non-meat option to the vegetarian of the group. The vegetarian in general paid the same and got less food/options. Rude, nonresponsive and intimidating-looking waitress.

After you place your order, you need to line up again to get your food - you basically hand them your ticket and they'll just scoop the food onto a plate for you. It's all premade and ready, so it was really fast. The platter and the roti rolls are the same meat/sauce (they all come from the same container), just delivered differently. My favorite was definitely the lamb roti roll though, it was my preferred way to consume the lamb curry :) I'd recommend everything except maybe the duck, since that had too many bones in it. It had the best sauce though, so just prepare yourself for not a lot of meat if you decide to try it.

What resulted was a delicious roti wrap filled with lamb, potatoes and green beans. The lamb was cooked perfectly and with the peper sauce made every bite filling and tasty. Operations are quite slow though, as there is one person taking orders and another person making the food. They only make your order when you show up at the window. Still, everything is precooked so not too bad.

Service was actually great for Amsterdam standards! It was just one man working the entire restaurant and he was super friendly and efficient. I got the carbonara, which was delicious and my boyfriend got the American pizza (with pepperoni and schwarma) and he really liked it. To top it off, they give you complementary bread, which is nice and soft. I definitely recommend this place if you're on a budget.

It was plenty of food as it came with beans, a salad, an interesting apple based stew and a kind of Cole slaw. No alcohol is available so I just had tea. The mains were both rice based, one with a nut sauce, the other a tomato sauce. Both tasted very nice. The decor is sparse and simple and it's probably one of the only restaurants I've been too that didn't play any music. It did seem a little expensive for what we got but not outrageous. Not sure what this means but other than my wife and I everybody was dining alone....hmmm.

The owner has been here for over thirty years and his daughter, Karsu, is an internationally known Dutch jazz singer. A very affordable and friendly place, with a lovely atmosphere. Especially suitable for vegegarians, ask for their mezes, a mixed portion of snacks. I felt their Sigaraböregi, Turkish cheese in though, was way to salty, and wasn't a fan of their Russian salad either, but loved their spicy vegetable spread and spinach boreki, small spinanch pastry.

We (2p) ordered mezze for 1, and two warm starters: kalamar tava (fried squid or calamari) and Ispanak pogaça böregi (pastry with spinach). With the mezze (humus, baba ganoush and two other delicious 'thingies' to eat with bread), the two starters and one main course it was more than enough for two, and a very nice combination to try some different things, although we kind of ordered randomly. It was very good, service great and I almost felt like I was in Turkey in one of the better restaurants. Will visit again!

Balraj is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in the city. This reflects in the quality of food - you can get some very authentic and spicy options along with dishes 'blanded' down for the local flavor. Located in one of the nicest parts of the city (although there is a Subway that just opened up here), dining at Balraj is part of an even more extensive experience, that could include the best ice cream in town, nearby. One thing is for sure, you would be avoiding the throngs of aimless tourists and mind-numbing crowd noise. The prices are very attractive. Every dish comes with a serving of rice, lentils, an accompaniment in the form of a curry dish, and a 'roti'. It's a party in your tummy! Being a vegetarian, I still suffer from the lack of options, but that isn't generally a problem unless I aspire to dine here more than once a month. Even then, they have specials listed on the menu, which I assume are experiments that have the potential to be made part of the regular menu, if successful. One bit of advice - when in doubt about a dish, just ask. India has diversity in dish ingredients depending on region, even if they sound the same. So, something from the South could be a whole lot spicier than a dish with the same name from Central India. While not the most upscale Indian restaurant in the city, Balraj is quickly becoming my goto restaurant for national flavor. Give it a go, and check out the great tastes for yourself!

The sweet potato was mixed with sweet spices. My friend and I could not quite pick the spice and the chef couldn't tell me the blend. All I can say is it was delicious. We had a nice fresh white wine to accompany our meal. We were too full to have dessert on this occasion but I did get a take away dessert another time which was an amazing white chocolate mousse with a poached white peach. This was delightful.
