I just had the most delicious samosa chaat ($7) at Bodega Days farmers market at "Cesar Chavez Park". I wasn't starving but wanted something small and light. This is a decent lunch with pretty good value. The $12 small butter chicken over rice was very filling with good flavor. The chicken was pretty well cooked, likely just a bit tougher than one would like. The basmati rice was perfectly cooked. I also tried the samosa chaat ($7) which I found interesting in flavor - bit sweet, reminiscent of BBQ sauce with a low, growing spice. Only one samosa was provided and it was fried well, maybe lacking in flavor but the sauce and toppings more than make up for it. There was also a whole layer of flaky crumbs on the whole dish that I can best describe cross between katafi and panko. It added some good texture to the dish, but I was pretty confused as to what it was. I think I would have enjoyed a brighter flavor or perhaps a raita as an additional sauce. Overall, the samosa chaat served as a good, filling snack and decently well-valued. The cashier was very sweet and offered physical menus to those who were squinting at the menu on the side of the truck (me). The food came out within 10 minutes even event with a constant stream of customers lining up and ordering. I would consider ordering from them again and perhaps trying other offerings. read more

I've been wanting to try India jones for a while now, especially since I'm a big fan of Indian food. However, it was always just a bit out of my way--until I saw they were in my area. I was excited to finally give it a shot. I decided to try a couple of their Frankies (Indian-style burritos), but unfortunately, I was let down. The flavors were off. All I could taste was an overwhelming vinegary, almost sour note, with no real balance. There was hardly any salt, and overall, it just didn't taste good. I also ordered the combo, hoping it would come with a drink, but all it came with was fries. When I asked the owner if drinks were included, he bluntly said no, with a tone that felt a little rude. I get that not every combo needs to include a drink, but for a $14+ price tag, I'd expect a little more value--especially when other places usually throw in at least a small drink as part of their combo. The portion size was also underwhelming. It was maybe slightly bigger than a bean burrito you'd get at Taco Bell, which felt like it wasn't quite worth the price. I also tried the chana that I got for my wife, and that was actually decent. But overall, based on this experience, I'm not sure I'd return to try more items. The restaurant's social media claims to serve "superior Indian food," but unfortunately, my experience didn't align with that at all. read more

This food truck has several major service issues: 1) They charged me TWICE for the same dish and when I pointed it out they said they didn't know how to process a refund. Huh?? 2) Service can be very SLOW (e.g. waiting 20 minutes for one of their regular dishes) 3) They ran out pretty early their main dish, the butter chicken with limited alternatives 4) The staff seemed overwhelmed and were unfriendly 5) Minor point: If you use a credit card they charge you the patron 3.5% Food itself is... okay? I ordered at their food truck during the farmers market off of Capitol andddddd it was meh. I paid extra for double the serving but it was just double the rice and hardly any chicken (a lot of sauce tho, which I enjoyed with the rice). I have eaten a lotttt of Indian meals and this one unfortunately left little to be desired. I do not think that the price was worth the product received but the service was good and the people were friendly and efficient. The truck design was attractive and the name catchy so there was also that. Food in the Hood - WestPark Wednesday [Roseville] I've seen India Jones' food truck during WestPark Wednesdays but this was my first time trying their food... I've not had Indian food in awhile and I saw butter chicken on the menu. I've been craving... I was second in line (no one else behind me at the time) and inquired about the Butter Chicken. The nice owner asked if I want to try a sample... I got a nice generous serving in a sampler container (it took me between 6-10 spoonfuls to finish). Yummy!! The menu showed Butter Chicken over Fries but I asked if I could have it over basmati rice and he accommodated. I ordered the small size ($12), large is also available at $15. The dish was in a plastic covered container so it's not spilling everywhere... AND they placed it inside a plastic bag. This is rare among the food trucks but I always come prepared anyway and bring a bag or two. I always bring my purchases home to eat. This park has no shade tree or any covered picnic area at all. How have I never heard of this place?! Fusion food trucks are everywhere but this one really impressed me. The food was out of this world delicious and I can't wait to try more. I got frankie & fries combo for about $15 after tax but before tip. Frankies are basically small naan wraps filled with your choice of protein ranging from lamb to chicken to my personal fav, paneer. They're on the smallish side and range $8-9 if you get them alone so I'm glad I got the fries with it! My frankie was amazing. The paneer was so soft yet firm enough to hold its classic cube shape, and generous in portion. I had like 7 huge chunks of cheese in my little wrap. The sauce was super yummy and flavorful, and the addition of the fresh vegetables was wonderful for extra flavor and texture. The fries, oh man -- run, don't walk, if you have the chance to try them! They're seasoned with a masala curry spice. A little sweet, a little savory. So much better than regular fries. They were super thin and crispy and thoughtfully packaged with the top open to prevent sogginess. They kind of tasted eggy to me? Like there was an egg or tempura batter coating them. I'm lucky that we have some great food trucks that stop by where I work. As the name suggests, India Jones offers Indian cuisine and some really yummy stuff, too! I've tried them a couple of times now. What they lack in portion size, they make up for in great flavor. So many Indian restaurants play it safe with meh sauces. Not India Jones. They have "Frankies": an Indian Roti, egg washed and rolled up like a burrito with chopped onions, tamarind, cilantro chutney, and comes with your choice of lamb, chicken, beef, paneer, or potato. It's amazing and nothing like I've had before - just a flavor bomb! Their Masala fries are crispy fries dusted with their delicious blend of spices. And, their Aloo Tiki Chaat: a veggie dish with diced potatoes, garbanzo beans, cilantro, 4 kinds of sauces, and topped with some type of dry crumbs. Just fantastic and packed full of flavor. Finally, their butter chicken: tender pieces of white meat chicken swimming in a yummy, lightly spicy, curry sauce. If you happen to see them around, do yourself a favor and give them a try. I found this gem of a food truck at the Carmichael farmers market and while I wasn't super hungry, I wanted to try out their food so I just ordered taco chaat and masala fries. I chose chicken for my tacos and they come in blue corn taco shells, sweet chili slaw, tangy and spicy chutneys, and chickpea vermicelli which gives it a wonderful crunchy topping. There is usually a yogurt and cilantro sauce (maybe raita?) but I opted not to have that since I can't have dairy. Oh these are gluten free as well so a win there. The chicken was so tender and flavorful, I devoured these so quick! The masala fries were a side to my tacos and the portion is large. I hope to run into this truck again to try more options, or to get this exact order again. read more

First, the food is BOMB! I'm not normally a food truck girl, but the spices in the food here are amazing! Billy and I walked to the Factory Outlets yesterday and decided to try a food truck for lunch. The owner came out and personally greeted us and told us a little about his history in the food service industry while we waited for the food to be done. Vinay is his name, he's a great chef, and even nicer person. Yesterday I had the lamb Frankie and Billy had the butter chicken on basmati rice. Both were so good that we forgot to get pictures before they were devoured. It was only $24 for both of us to eat. We got two tickets to enter into a raffle (one per $10 spent) yesterday to win a $50 gift certificate and he called me this morning to inform me that I won! It's been a long time since I've found a place that has very good Indian food. This food truck is the best I've had in a very long time. The samosas were delicious! Flavorful! Not dry or bland at all. I've never had home style curry before and it's become my favorite. Its flavorful, not overpowering, but you can still taste all the spice. The butter chicken, wow. Usually butter chicken is too buttery for me and makes me feel greasy afterwards, but the way they make it, you're not going to feel that way. So those two and the samosas have become my favorite. Food came out nice and hot. The rice was perfect actually. Usually the rice at other places are hard but not this place. As for customer service, perfect 10. They are so nice, patient, and helpful. In the pics I saw, their truck was way more colorful and eye catching! I love the name, by the way... It's perfect for an Indian fusion food truck! I got an order of the tacos and the vegetable samosas. I liked the chicken tacos - The blue corn is a good touch - The sauce on these are a bit sweet though. Kinda disappointed as I tried this food truck based on other reviews. The flavors were less complex than I'm used to and the ones that were dominant were not my taste. Brought it back for the exchange with no time to really eat lunch. Accepted the exchange but wish I would have requested a refund. A group of us went to Elk Grove's monthly food truck event yesterday and I got to try out India Jones. I had scoped out the menus of all of the trucks in advance and decided that India Jones sounded the best. My sister and I walked up to the truck and opted for Combo #1 - any frankie + any small curry. We asked the man taking our order (who I believe is the owner) what he recommended for choice of meat with the frankie and he enthusiastically recommended the lamb! He explained that he has a butcher in Sacramento and always ensures that the lamb is the highest quality when he buys it. He also said that of all the curries, he likes the butter chicken the best, so we went with all of his recommendations. The food came after a very brief wait, and my sister and I walked back to our group's table to grub. Everyone tried a bite and agreed that the food was delicious! The frankie - an Indian roti egg-washed with onions, tamarind chutney, and your choice of meat - was fresh and jam-packed with flavor. While I initially thought that it looked kind of small, I think that the combination of meat and egg definitely fills you up! The "small" butter chicken order was also really good, perfect for a chilly night. After we were done, we went back to get a fresh order of samosas, and told the owner that we really enjoyed all of the food. He told us that if we liked spice, he could give us his housemade chili sauce for the samosas in addition to the green chutney and the sweet chili sauce. All three sauces complimented the crispy samosas so, so well and I even went to the trouble to take the rest of the housemade chili sauce home. Of all the different foods we sampled from different trucks, India Jones' dishes were definitely a head above the rest. I'll be looking forward to this truck at any other events I may go to! I asked the lovely lady (cashier) her recommendation (I was trying to choose between the Chaat Tacos and the Butter Chicken.) She shared that the tacos would be better enjoyed during hotter months, and that the Butter Chicken was highly regarded, and award winning. So, there you go. I ordered the Butter Chicken with a side of the Sweet Chili Naan. It was DELICIOUS! I can not wait to try more items from the menu. Excellent taste, high quality rice and chicken. But, that SAUCE!!?? Went today because I forgot to pack lunch. I bought the the LG size $15 butter chicken curry. The whole container was rice with light sauce and almost no chicken. There is more meat when I buy and eat balut. I spent time looking for my chicken found maybe 2 bites of chicken. Regret not taking pictures. My $15 rice tasted ok, but would not buy again or recommend. Service was fast and friendly so gave 1 star. It was at Cesar Chavez plaza downtown Sacramento. Overall not worth the dangerous walk to the plaza (was attacked in past) although police presence helps a little. But again friendly service surroundings is not their fault. read more

A few months ago, I had a horrible experience with this food truck and vowed never to try again. However, I'm glad I did because things have definitely changed for the better. I saw that India Jones was back at my job site but with a new, clean truck. Being that they have a new truck, I thought maybe I should try them again and see if they've changed. I'm so glad I did! Saw this food truck at the Carmichael Park Farmers Market. After looking over the menu, I landed on the Frankie with Chicken. The flavor was okay but the chicken was very hard and dry like it had been reheated several times. Ended up just getting rid of some of the chicken and eating the wrap it was in. OMG this is the best food!!! It's kind of fusion I guess but still it's our new favorite Indian food. The chicken taco chaat is AMAZEBALLS!! 15/10! The lamb taco chaat, too, but you can mix because the guy is cool like that. I also the aloo chaat. Those are what I am dying for and about to order as we are just pulling up to the truck. Last week (when we found India Jones) I also tried the "Frankie" with chicken. Pretty awesome until I tried the other two. Finally, we tried the curry fries. Yummers as well. India Jones was one of the many food trucks at a music festival I recently attended. I had seen the truck before at other events, and love Indian food, so I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the chicken curry, which comes on a bed of rice for $12. The food came out relatively quick after ordering. The plate featured lots of chicken, which was juicy and flavorful. The curry itself was a little mild for me, but the flavor and consistency of the sauce was on point. There was a little too much rice for me, but that's the only negative I can recall from my experience. I look forward to trying more of their items at future events. read more

Oh my god y'all. I have stopped eating out a lot since starting a keto diet in January, but one of the things I CAN eat is butter chicken (with no rice of course). Tried this truck today for the first time and I am in LOVE. The gentleman who took my order was very kind and filled my whole small order to the top with the meat and sauce (even though he obviously did not have to). The butter chicken was the best I have ever had. The chicken was shredded which gave the dish a thicker consistency and it was seasoned so well. This food truck is definitely top-tier for me. I have tried their samosas, masala fries, and the vegan/vegetarian curries (veggie coconut and paneer makhani). Every single item I have had from this food truck is phenomenal. If you are lucky, your order will be taken by Vinay, who is one of the most kind/knowledgable/warm people I have had the pleasure of encountering. He has an incredible knowledge of various things, but is an expert in the food that he is serving. You can tell that he is passionate about the complex nature of the cuisine that he serves, and it's reflected in the brilliant taste of the food. They worked with my organization's event, and it went flawlessly. It opened people's eyes to Indian cuisine, and a LOT of people enjoyed the butter chicken. The best thing about the Ziggurat not currently having a food vendor is the rotating food trucks out front. If it weren't for this, I may not have a new favorite food truck. My order typically falls somewhere around veggie samosas, garlic naan, butter chicken and/or a frankie, probably lamb, but any meat will do. If I could only eat one type of food for the rest of my life, it would entirely be "burrito," because... talk about versatile!
