I like Indian food, in fact I Love Indian Food, so when i
got the chance on a visit to The Robyn 2 venue in Bilston one weekend, I jumped
at the chance of going to the local curry house that was literally a stones
throw away from our Hotel. On arrival we were welcomed into what I would guess a 100+
cover restaurant, I thought well we're going to get a decent service here,
because there was only us in! We were shown to our table and asked if we would like a
drink, so I ordered a Pint of Cobra, my partner wanted a White Zinfandel Rose,
but the waitress came back and said they didn't have that, so she choose a Echo
Falls rose, but the waitress brought her a Echo Falls White as they didn't have
any Rose either. On tasting the Cobra, I nearly spat it out, I don't know whether
it had been sat in the beer lines for 2 weeks or whether it had beer cleaner in
it, all I knew was I wasn't drinking it, I called the waitress and she replaced
it with a Carling. We had poppadoms and pickles, the poppadoms were chewy and
the pickle trays were nothing like Ive had before, the mango chutney having a
strong flavour of chillies in it, the yogurt sauce pale and runny, not a good
start. The starter came out, I had a tikka lamb on the bone, which
was all bone to be honest with hardly any meat on it. My Partner had Onion Bahji
which were flat, doughy and tasteless. By now, I wasn't looking forward to the main at all. When it
came out on what I'd call School Dinner plates and mismatched silverware for
the curries I dipped into my Chicken Madras, Sagg Aloo, Garlic Nan and rice. I
am 100% sure to this day, that is was a supermarket curry from ASDAfact, the
nan was doughy, the rice was bland and the Saag Aloo was just green mush. The other half had a Tikka Masala, she said it was edible Thank Goodness we had a Tastecard we got us 50% off the bill
as if we had had to pay full wack for that, I would have felt robbed. Maybe the fact that the restaurant was empty should
have told us something, but if you do go to Bilston, do yourself a favour and
go to the Chippy instead! read more
