Haplessly, absolutely geeking out purchasing twelve Seafood Noodle Soup Bowls for $1.49 each rather than paying almost $4.00 each then, perusing the entire store: Purchasing one Halal, whole chicken, a myriad of fresh seafood on sale, exotic fruits on sale, Soju, Makgeolli, i.e., just naming a "few items" I bought. Since KP International originated as a Korean market there is a huge selection of Korean food and has the most extensive inventory of Korean products. There are multiple security guards throughout the store as a crime deterrent and can call the police if needed. Even the cashiers are overly vigilant. On one occasion I was pushing my cart by the register to look at items arraigned across from the register and I was yelled at that I needed to pay. I explained I was going to the items for sale and the cashier told me I needed to leave my cart next to the register. I left my cart next to the register and she stood next to it and proceeded to stare me down as I went to look at the display with the items. The Tofu Soup from the food court area was average. There was barely any seafood but it tasted good. There was a large amount of kimchi served on the side with a side of rice. The cost was high considering the lack of ingredients in the soup. Ordering on the kiosk was fast and easy. Service was good as the workers were friendly and helpful.

I regularly stop in to pick up treats, drinks, produce like mushrooms and okra, and their poke and hot meal options. I also like their home goods sections with so many cool ramen bowls, sauce containers, and utensils. I'm always excited when I stop in when it's slower because I can take my time browsing. Whenever this happens I end up leaving with a lot more items. I appreciate that they carry a wide variety of items including some ingredients and items that are hard to find in the US and even at other Asian grocery stores. I've stopped into many different stores and I feel like Oto's has variety and quality at a great price. They do have their own parking, but be careful because it can be pretty tight and there's usually a good amount of cars coming in and out.

But none of those reasons are the real reason I truly love Oto's,let me tell you what I really love.....Late last year I decided I was going to learn how to make my favorite food in the world and that is sushi.I went ham,I got the knives I got the kits,I got the rice maker,I got all the seasonings but what I didn't have was a spot to pick up the highest level of fish that was needed to really make homemade sushi pop and that is where Oto's came in to save the day. Their daily "sushi-grade" tuna and salmon that they sell in the back of the store is so next level-even a novice like myself cannot mess up a homemade sushi meal. They have so much to offer at Oto's,all the different levels of salmon and tuna, depending on your budget but all of it is amazing. I will forever be indebted to Oto's for helping me raise my sushi game at home and making my wife think that I'm just the best sushi maker-when it was always just the high quality fish offered at Oto's that did the work-Thank You Oto's for that. In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Land Park area and want to see what all the hype is about at this incredible spot or maybe you just want to try your hand at some home sushi making,be sure to stop by Oto's Marketplace-it truly is a gem amongst gems. PS....Parking sucks here-no way around that one unless u get lucky or have a handicap placard-don't like the parking.

I never wrote a review for Red Star?! How did THAT happen??? Never worry, I'm here to fix that :)…read more Red Star has been one store that has been a huge part of my life, since middle school (or maybe even before that). My mom has always brought me and my brothers along with her to buy caribbean food (particularly particular fish that isn't sold anywhere else!), seasonings, treats, and drinks (malt is my guilty pleasure!). Whatever can't be find at grocery stores, guaranteed it can be found at Red Star! Crazy how time flies! The owner always had his son with him in the store (when going there as a youngin'). Fast forward to today, and you can be pleasantly serviced by his son at the register. While the dad is in the aisles stocking or providing help when searching for products. He always says "hello" when coming into the store. :) The only downside, is there are sometimes expired items on the shelves. You just have to be extra vigilant and double check those bottles and cans before paying. If you do end up buying something expired, they will happily refund you what you paid for it. I would say I will be back. But, you already know I will be for my next Goya or Vita brand malt fix. Or when my mama is gonna cook up some yummy island cuisine. Yum-my! :)

Adj: Incredibly impressive and Excellently Extensive…read more It's been many years since my last review and this is not my usual Asian/Chinese grocery market since SF market opened on South Land Park Dr and is closer and much less crowded. However, I was in the area for lunch the other day and decided to do some shopping here and was blown away by how clean and well-organized it is as well as the comprehensiveness of the store's offerings. At the entrance, my kids were captivated by the little games at the front lobby. Then there's the food court, it looks very yummy and the offerings of roasted chicken, ducks, pork and other meats look very enticing had we not just had a very full lunch, I would've definitely grabbed lunch here. There's also the hot food section w/classic "fast food" Chinese dishes like chow mein, fried rice, potstickers, etc. All of it looked pretty fresh and smelled delicious. A new to me section is the Grab and Go foods. I don't recall those in the past, but perhaps it's been available for awhile. So convenient! There's quite a few different choices to include baos, dumplings, chicken, and duck, and several kinds of other meats, all precooked and just need to be rewarmed to be Ready-to-Eat. Then, we walked to the meat section and it's very extensive, all kinds of beef, pork, poultry, fish, seafoods, of both fresh and frozen varieties. Next, there was the produce section with tons of Asian veggies and fruits, all looked quite fresh. The tofu section along in the cold case of the produce area was big, so many kinds to choose from and 99 Ranch even has their own store brand of tofu now, that's news to me. Finally, the rest of the store was filled with shelf-stabled pantry items from snacks like chips, cookies, crackers, packaged pastries, other candies and sweets, to dry ingredients for cooking like dried fungus, mushrooms, herbs, dried fruits (like dried dates for soups), and lots of sauces in jars. Canned Asian drinks and bags and boxed tea bags and tea powders were also widely available with an incredible selection to choose from. The store itself also houses several individual boutique stores to provide convenient services such as a travel agency, an internet and mobile phone store, a clothing store, a tea and TCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) type herbal store, and several different smaller restaurants (more like fast food cafes). As we finished shopping, we walked past the bakery. It was filled with all the yummy carbs you can imagine from sliced breads to bao's and buns to all kinds of custom and ready-made birthday and other special occasion cakes. Overall, I was really impressed by how much 99 Ranch can stock in their store and the sheer variety they offered of every kind of items. Service was friendly and helpful, staff are all busy stocking or helping customers check out, so mostly it's a self-service store, but if you were looking for something, a staff could be found to point the way. I'm glad I came in and saw all the things 99 Ranch offer now so when I'm looking for something specific I cannot find at SF Market or another grocery store, I'll come here and probably find it.
