An update about after-installation service. TL;DR - The after installation service I received was…read morequite poor. We were very happy with our new heat pump, until winter came, and the heater started going on at night. When the temperature gets down to around 40F, the coil gets iced up, preventing air flow in/out, and consequently, the fan continuously (due to its inability to circulate air to operate & defrost) runs at max speed making very loud (what I call "crazy") noises. The unit is located right by our bedroom, and it was so noisy we could not sleep. We called Ray, and he came out and rotated it 90-degrees. (The theory was, the cold air was bouncing off the fence, which was only two feet away, and being fed back to the unit, thereby causing it to frost up abnormally quickly.) A week later it was still frosting up and making a lot of noise, so he reset the unit back to factory settings, and I asked him remove the nighttime low-noise setting (in case that was causing the quick frosting). But we quickly realized that was a mistake. The frosting was no better, and the noise was even worse. It took many calls/emails without any responses for the next two months. With the help of a nudge from a SMUD contractor relationship staff, Ray finally came out to put back the nighttime low noise setting (which would not address the cause/fix of the underlying issue, but would help us sleep a bit better). Ray worked for nearly an hour, but he clearly did not know what he was doing. He said he put it back to low noise, but he did not. It took less than five minutes for someone to see it was not set to nighttime low noise, and change it. After-installation service: 1*, so the rating now averages to 3*.

First let me say that these people do very good work, when they get around to it. I have a few…read moreproblems with this company, however. I belong to their "Shamrock Club" where you pay a set fee each year and receive a maintenance inspection on your air conditioner in the spring, and on your furnace in the fall. Whenever I have called for an appointment, they have been scheduling about six weeks out. This would be O.K. except that they have almost always called a day or two ahead of my appointment to say they have a technician out and could we reschedule. They then give me an appointment in another four or six weeks. Another real annoyance for me is their policy of giving a six-hour window for their appointments. I prefer afternoons, so this means I need to be available from noon until 6:00 p.m.! I recently contacted another company and they gave me a two-hour window for an appointment two weeks from the day I called. They also charged about $100 less than Gallagher's for a maintenance contract. Finally, since I decided not to have Gallagher's do the fall inspection on my furnace this year, I asked them for a partial refund of my Shamrock Club membership fee. They refused. So goodbye Gallaghers.

What a great small family business!…read more We had Daniel come out to get our AC working 2 or 3 years back and at that time he warned us our HVAC system was getting tired from old age...something I can relate. Well, our furnace finally conked out and Daniel was quick to make it over because the house was dipping into the low 60's but the prognosis was grim. Daniel said he could bring life back into it but couldn't guarantee how long it would last so we opted to bite the bullet and just replace our entire HVAC instead of piece mealing it to save a buck now. We wanted having peace of mind that only a new system with a warranty can provide plus we upgraded to an energy efficient and 1/2 ton larger units to give us faster heating and cooling which will save us dollars over the long haul. Abella's worked with us to schedule a date to do the install and kept us apprised. Daniel prepared us for a two day ordeal of removing the old system and installing a new AC / furnace units along with other parts but we were pleasantly surprised they got all the work done in just one day!! They arrived around 8am and had our new system up and running before 4pm. We really love the WiFi thermostat and now the wife and I fight over control because we each make temp adjustments with a swipe of a finger on our phones. Maybe I need to break someone's fingers Eh? Will....hopefully affordable natural gas and Freon will be with us for a long long long time but who knows, we currently have a dictator telling us what cars we can and cannot buy starting in 2035 and other so called leaders wanting to ban all forms of carbon based fuels and green house gases which natural gas and refrigerant are. Political jabs aside, if you're looking for an honest and competent HVAC company, give Abella's a try.

I'm very glad I got a third opinion from Affordable Heating & Air. After another company diagnosed…read morea leaking evaporator coil, I was quoted around $5,000 to repair it or $11,000 to replace the AC system. Affordable's owner personally came out, gave me straightforward pricing, and checked my warranty. He confirmed the evaporator coil was covered through 2027 and replaced it, including refrigerant, for only $1,025. I was especially impressed with Bret, the technician who did the work. He was professional, efficient, knowledgeable and honest. He clearly explained what he was doing, gave me useful tips and advice, and never made me feel pressured into additional services. After dealing with several HVAC companies and technicians, Bret's experience and ability to clearly explain everything really stood out. Affordable saved me thousands of dollars and earned my trust. I would definitely recommend getting an opinion from them before committing to an expensive HVAC repair or replacement.

I hate to downgrade a business. But our house has never…read morefelt properly cool for eight years. Affordable Hearing and Air put in a new HVAC system in our home eight years ago. We would have them come out to do yearly maintenance and someone would literally come and hose down the AC for $85... then we complained about how hot it was, and a tech would look at our thermostat and say it was tracking correctly. The thermostat was right where the home is coldest... They did replace a capacitor under warranty on our AC when it flunked out in summer 2022 and they came quickly. Last year I called to have them clean our AC and it was a two week wait. I decided to just do it myself with my Dad throwing a hose up to the roof. This year we had a recommendation for another company from our electrician and the owner came out, did an overall check, cleaned off the unit from pollen and buildup (with a hose) and said our coolant was extremely low. He said we either had a slow leak; he's coming back in several weeks to see how our coolant level is in case it is a faster leak. With the refilled coolant Our house finally feels cool for the first time in eight years. And we do have a cooling differential upstairs- a full ten degrees hotter than downstairs. I tested it with my own thermometer. We definitely felt gaslit for what we went through with the advice we received from Affordable. We are also planning to get a mini split system installed in a bedroom upstairs as our new HVAC guy said a house with two stories should generally have two air conditioners or mini splits installed upstairs as it's difficult for one unit to push up enough cool air especially with out triple digit summers and a flat roof house with no attic. The topper was he said our AC wiring setup on the roof was not up to code. He was shocked it was approved by the city inspector (which it was). I can't go lower on my ratings because the owner was helpful When we first moved here, and I think the crawl space install was very challenging and a very good father and son team did a good job. Joe also helped us when we had a house fire and was able to sent a team to mechanically clean our vents without chemicals per my request. He also worked graciously with invoices for the insurance company. However, I think there are some less talented technicians working here now that are not sufficiently experienced or knowledgeable who are bringing this company down, and thus I do need to revise my review.

Unfortunately, I had a previous vendor simply top off the condenser and had the gall to tell me that it would last a few days till he got the part to stop the leak. I paid hundreds of dollars to get the refrigerant filled, only to wait for the part then refill it again and pay hundreds of dollars more! So, I went on a search for a new HVAC vendor and I solicited 12 vendors on Yelp as I had good prospects in the past using their platform. About half said they were unable to service, and the rest required a diagnostic fee the highest of which was quoted at $600 that amounted to filling the condenser with die, waiting a few weeks, then coming back to verify the leaks! A nitrogen test would tell you on the spot if you had leaks. Fortunately, I found Air Plus and conversed with Mel, the owner, and he was very responsive, asked the right questions and would do a site visit without a fee. He came the next day and evaluated the condenser, and I pointed out where the last vendor failed. He was able to provide a solution which I agreed with and got to work with his great crew and was able to fix the problem in just over an hour! What he charged me was totally fair and Air Plus is now my go to for all HVAC installs, repairs and maintenance. I highly recommend them more as they should be your go to for any HVAC needs!
