From the booking of my first service ,10,000 mile to the completion of the job inchcape Chelmsford have been 100% helpful, polite and very knowledgeable, when i dropped the car off the service manager James was there to fully explain exactly what was going to be covered in the service after which he asked if wanted to add anything, I asked for additional work to be carried out, during the day James kept me informed of progress then of a collection time, on collection of my Tiguan James confirmed all work was complete and on inspection everything had been done to a very high standard. Rung dealer looking for a Golf R, asked it they had any in stock but was ignored and asked "how quick could I get there" even thought they had no stock and when I asked could they search for a car for me they replied "No we are far too busy", appalling customer service from main VW dealer, go elsewhere! read more

I have been having to deal with Inchcape in Chelmsford for the last 2 weeks due to the ESP light fault in my golf (which has only done 38000 miles) and have been quoted £700 for this repair which is a manufacture fault which vw will not admit to. Apart from the fact that I have joined the 'I won't ever be buying a golf again club' , I will never recommend this retailer for the very lazy, totally unhelpful management staff who will try to rip you off at the earliest opportunity. read more

I would not give this dealer even 1 star, I booked my VW Golf in to have a key coded and then my near side headlamp packed up so I asked them to have a look at that as well I informed them that I had a years VW Approved warranty on the car. Three days later I got a call telling me it was all done total cost £2225.00 which I payed. I then called the dealer I purchased it from asking them for a refund and was told that several of the parts they charged me for were covered under warranty and this is where it all started. I got back in touch with inchcape and they said I never informed them that it was under warranty ( I had VW customer care take over my case and they had my original phone call replayed and yes I did tell them ). By now all my phone calls and getting nowhere had gone on over five weeks and inchcape had conveniently thrown the parts away as they knew VW would not pay for them after four weeks but out of kindness of their hearts they would refund me for the cheapest part. The smarmy stand in service manager Andrew has got a customer care problem and sneers at you he really shouldn't be dealing with the public with his attitude. I will not be using inchcape again and would advise all people to use their local garage where customer care really does matter to them. read more

How strange this was in 2011 and nothing has changed. We are currently in dispute with them as our car was bought from them serviced by them and now apparently needs a new engine after 37000 miles. We have had a saga of problems with them including being told we need a new battery when two other garages confirmed it was fine and proved to be and they wanted £150 just for that. After they had the car for 6 weeks we threatened to take the car elsewhere for inspection miraculously they said they had replaced the piston and all was fine but on going to the garage to pick it up we were then told the car was still in bits and the next day they phoned and said we needed a new engine. We agree with the first review that their customer service does not exist and if I could give them no stars I would. We are also members of the never buy a golf again club. read more
