I had an amazing experience with Penner's when I needed a suit for my upcoming wedding…read more When you first walk into Penner's you immediately get the impression of a store that knows exactly what it is doing, and trying to be. There is history all over the walls, and you can see this is a beloved family run institution. That immediately made me feel good. Everyone in the store is also extremely friendly and helpful, the service is top notch. I had signed up for an appointment for a fitting, and I had a very specific suit color in mind (dark hunter green). I knew this wasn't the most common color for a suit, and I was a little nervous because I've never been through the tailoring experience before. Matt came over and walked me through everything, he helped me pick out not only the suit that is perfect for what I was looking for but he also helped me find a shirt, tie, belt and shoes. He was with me every step of the way. My suit had to be ordered and altered since it's not a common off the rack color, the team at Penner's kept in touch with me the whole time. I never had any doubt that I was in good hands, and any questions I had were answered fully. The price for everything was also extremely fair in my opinion. I fully endorse Penner's if you're looking for suits, clothes, shoes or anything else wearable. There's a big selection, and it's not just suits they also have just about anything for men's wear. A great selection, and a family owned business. I feel very fortunate to have Penner's in town and I will be back!

Nice place and well stocked- unlike discount stores today. Won't be the absolute cheapest, but fair price for a great suit that hangs right and looks amazing! I am not yet one to wear a lot of Guayaberas, but this place has some top notch ones. Quality!

The store has a whole vibe to it that's more Marfa than San Antonio, where things are slower, more relaxed. I enjoy their selection of patches that you can use to dress up any outfit to make it more awesome. They're more expensive than those ones made out in China, but they have a shag carpet kind of effect on the embroidery that makes it a hundred times more kickass. They sell knives! Check out the ones with the Texas flag handles- they'd go great with a Texas independence day festival for limes. The staff was friendly and answered all my questions. They were super helpful and friendly. Prices are clearly labeled, and they have so much fun merch- it's a great place to get outfitted while keeping things sustainable, local and of course- fashionable.

They are inspired in part by Georgia O'Keefe and you can feel that minimalist but warm influence in the store. I bought a small home goods item and they gave me a free zine on mental health. You could tell this place is a true passion project of the owners and when back in town, or online, I plan to support them!

After standing…read morein the store for a few minutes without being acknowledged, I mentioned up front that I likely needed a larger size and asked if they had any in stock. I was told they didn't have any and wouldn't for several months. I then asked if I could be measured to at least get a sense of my size for future reference, but was told they don't measure because "all hats are different." I also asked about the possibility of ordering one, but received the same response that nothing would be available for months. I understand that inventory can be limited, especially for popular styles and larger sizes. That part didn't bother me. What was surprising was the lack of engagement--no sizing, no discussion of fit, and no guidance on ordering or alternatives. Given Paris Hatters' long-standing reputation in San Antonio, I was expecting a more hands-on and informative experience. This felt more like a quick dismissal than a customer interaction. I may try again another time, but this visit didn't reflect the level of service I had heard so much about.

Since I'd never been here before, it felt right to finally walk the ground where so much of that history started. The moment you step onto the grounds, the noise of the city fades a little. The chapel stands there quietly, not flashy, not loud, just steady -- like it's been waiting. Walking inside, there's a heaviness, but also a sense of respect that's hard to put into words. Knowing the stories is one thing. Standing where they happened is something else entirely. The exhibits are thoughtfully done and easy to follow, but what stood out most were the volunteers and staff. Warm, respectful, and genuinely proud to share the history. No rush, no pressure -- just people who care about preserving the story and making sure it's understood. The courtyard surprised me the most. Calm, almost peaceful. It gave me a moment to slow down and connect the dots between past and present. After celebrating a modern-day promotion rooted in service, being here felt full circle. This wasn't just a tourist stop for me. It was a history lesson, a culture lesson, and a quiet moment of reflection all wrapped into one. If you're in San Antonio -- especially if you have any connection to military service or American history -- this is a place you should experience at least once. Not just to see it, but to feel it.
