The scale of the artwork is hard to appreciate until you're standing underneath it wondering how anyone even painted something that large. One of my favorite surprises was going underground and seeing the remains of the original medieval fortress and drawbridge. I wasn't expecting that at all, and it added a completely different dimension to the experience. The Louvre is massive, overwhelming, beautiful, historic, and absolutely worth seeing. Even with our rocky start, I walked out feeling like we had experienced something genuinely special.

The real Stars of the experience were of course the wines. We went By the glass, starting with a delicious Philliponat brut Champagne, an Alice Corton, and then a Cotes du Rhône. It was very delicious and the meat was quite tender. It was served on a bed of thinly slides vegetables like carrots and zucchini. For being located in a smaller city (not Paris) I would have expected the servers to be a little more friendly but they were friendly enough for it not to impact our experience.
