    Very friendly, English speaking and a perfect place to taste some different types of champagne. I am not a wine person at all, but didn't know there was such a thing as Pinot noir Champagne. We came here because we skipped out on the Moet tour and only had 1/2 and hour in Eprenay because of some train issues earlier that day. Anyway, this was the closet spot to what seems to be the center of town and like the other reviews say, very very welcoming.

    I adore the champagne region. I mean , who doesn't , right?? I've spent many a day... and night in Epernay tasting and touring the larger and more well known champagne houses. That said, this time, we decided to learn about champagnes that were not of the MOET or the Veuve Clicquot champagnes snd C. Comme was the perfect place to sample more of these wonderful champagnes that were not so mainstream. 39€ gets you six tastings of amazing brut, Demi sec , blanc de blanc and rose champagnes, and when I say 'tastings', I mean full sized glasses of perfect bubbles. My husband and I were not clear on how big these tastings would be and actually ordered one each! Yikes!! That said , take the time and enjoy the bubbles that this region is famous for. The staff here is helpful, speaks English well, ( for those of us who struggle to keep up with speaking perfect French). The snacks are provided to keep your tastebuds and tummy mid satisfied whilst tasting. There are more delectable plates to go with the wines .. we loved the charcuterie and foie gras. There is also a menu that comes with the tasting and a cave below to take home your favorite bubbles. We loaded up here and even had to purchase an extra bag to get all of these amazing champagnes back to the US. This is one of our favorite spots in Epernay .. and we can't wait to return again!

    It's true that this place is 'off the beaten path'; you will not find any signs pointing you in the…read moreproper direction. There is a secure parking lot next to the lighthouse, but otherwise there is no real parking. If you park at the lighthouse, you will need to walk at least 20 minutes, some uphill, to arrive at the bar. The bar manager was 15 mins late, and rude when we went to check in with our reservation because we had a service animal with a valid doctor's note. He explained that it was clear on the website that no animals are allowed. We obliged because we had already paid for our reservation, and he was cutting the conversation off, saying, "I don't have the time to discuss anything further because I'm already late." Not my problem you are late to work. Also, I would like to point out that the man in charge of 'Perching Experience' had his dog running around. We were holding my small service animal, not knowing whose unleashed and non-collared dog it was, when the man rudely said, "What? Your dog can't walk?" While my partner went to take care of our dog I saw a duo who had been waiting since opening be turned away because the owner stated he could have max 10 people in the bar. In fact, we were only 7 people at the bar so there was space for them. Furthermore, the inside of the bar and the top view point of the bar were closed 'due to COVID', leaving only the outside balcony accessible. Having 1/3 of the bar closed, restrooms closed, one glass of champagne, and receiving no glass or offer of water, the price of 21 euro is absurd. With all these COVID measures, I found it funny that there was no hand sanitizer stations, and that the owner did not wear a mask. He stated he didn't need to wear one because we are outside, but at the same time he says no service animals and there is a dress code? After pouring everyone's glass, he left the bar and didn't return to check on anyone. We decided to stop wasting time at this bar, and left. The couple next to us had been sitting with empty glasses for 20 mins. We saw the owner when leaving and let him know that there were customers who might want another drink. He said, "yeah, yeah, I know. I was going to go." From one service industry folk to another, if you don't like customers, get a different job.

I was really interested in trying small producers that don't export. That's where Tresors comes in - it's a tasting room coop with 27 small, local wineries showcased. Can we talk about the interior? So clever! There's a giant map of Champagne on the floor and each producer is numbered - pull down their bottle from the ceiling (see my pics) to learn more. I love that each winemaker is pictured - we were given a small booklet with more detailed info on each winemaker as well. Each day there are 8-10 bottles open for tasting. You can taste by the glass (price varies) or do a flight of 3 for €20. My husband and I each did one so we shared 6 wines from a light blanc des blancs to a more intense rose maceration. My favorite ended up being a 2008 vintage - it was perfection. I can't say enough about how great our sommelier Laure (hope I spelled it right!) was! She thoroughly explained each wine and the overall process that the vintners go through. My only small sad is that they really don't ship to the US (due to state specific regulations) so plan to perhaps taste a bunch here and perhaps grab a special bottle or two. Prices varied from €20/bottle to MUCH more but I can tell you that I truly liked each wine I tasted. This shop was one of the highlights of my vacation - it was everything I was looking for. They're close to the train station so definitely do not miss them!

You're in Champagne!…read more But for connoisseurs and enthusiasts just wanting more variety, this shop run by an association of 27+ independent grower Champagne estates, just cannot be beat. You'll be able to purchase bottles (and cases) of bottlings seldom seen back home, and more importantly be able to taste maybe 6-9 open bottles among 180+ cuvees they carry at any given point. It's a great opportunity to learn a lot about different cuvee styles and the growers behind them, some of whom have an intense cult following among enthusiasts. All at reasonable prices and among super-friendly staff, the shop space is totally lovely too. Extremely highly recommended.

We started with some facts about this house. For sure we can find this one back in the US. 3rd worldwide behind Moet and Vive le Clique but France's favorite. They started in 1986 and grew quickly due to quality and price point Cru means village-you can have the most beautiful grapes and still have vinegar-all about the winemakers, 6000 grower cooperative-This House represents 1/3 of the Champagne region. They can produce 20000 bottles per hour. Pro Tips-When trying a new brand/house try the non Vintage first -to see how you like it before spending more for Vintage variety. When opening don't twist the cap twist the bottle if you don't want it to pop and want a quite open. We had two tastings and got a third (nice touch) as one of our party wanted to try the Rose. Reserve Exclusive Brut, Blanc de Blancs and Rose. Most liked the Blanc de Blancs. Elliot our Tour Guide was exceptional. 2 hour tour and tasting went quickly as he made it fun and interesting. They are the biggest cooperative in the region. Took about an hour to finish. We had a better understanding of champagne and what goes into production. We ended the tour at the nice lobby with tasting of 2 different champagnes. Highly recommend! You can buy tickets on site.

We visited a number of large Champagne houses, the so-called Grande Marque, including Billecart-Salmon, Bollinger and Taittinger and from those brief tours, I gained appreciation for the deep tradition and dedication that goes into Champagne making. I also wanted to use our trip to visit at least one restaurant in the area and ended up with L'Assiette Champanoise in Reims. The restaurant, located inside the hotel of the same name, has been considered a standout destination in the region's dining scene, with three Michelin stars next to its name. Overall, Jun and I enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant with a good number of memorable dishes, although not every aspect of the experience was perfect. Since we had only one night for dinner in Champagne, we decided to go all out for the signature Emotion tasting menu (at €395 per person) as well as wine pairings (at €245 per person). The restaurant, whose kitchen is led by chef Arnaud Lallement, explores the sophisticated French fine dining with fundamentally sound execution. Having been to many fine dining restaurants, including those with French cuisine, I probably would say there wasn't any particular dish that led me or Jun to exclaim "Oh my god, how did the kitchen come up with this dish?!" On the other hand, there was no single bad dish, and some of them were quite excellent. I liked how the kitchen put together a medley of tomato-based dishes at the beginning of the meal, and was especially fond of the tomato confit and mackerel dish; contrary to my worry that the flavor of each ingredient would overpower the other, they complemented each other very well. One of the signature dishes at the restaurant is the beautifully plated caviar with mashed potatoes and I could see why; of course, it didn't hurt that for the wine pairing, we were served a glass of Krug that perfectly balanced the rich caviar and potato flavor. Another signature dish that I really liked (not surprisingly) was the blue lobster from Brittany, with lobster jus and paprika greatly enhancing the flavor. My favorite dish of the night, though, was probably the red mullet; the fish itself was already a winner but the addition of eggplant millefeuille was quite a game changer. Not every dish landed the same impact. Compared to all of the exceptional dishes that I highlighted, the last savory dish of chicken, gamberini prawns and sweetbread felt a little too safe. The desserts, many of them based on strawberry during its growing season, also didn't leave a lasting impression, either (to be fair, we were already getting a fair amount of exposure to strawberry during our earlier restaurant trips in Paris). I booked a reservation at the restaurant as soon as we started planning for the Paris/Champagne trip in March so I can't be sure how difficult it is to get a reservation at L'Assiette Champenoise, but I would still highly recommend booking in advance. The wine pairing, considering its hefty price, was somewhat mixed. Aside from the aforementioned Krug, we also got two Champagnes from relatively unknown producers (one of which I liked very much). The star of the pairing was undoubtedly a super rare Coteaux Champenois still white wine that Jun and I couldn't stop raving about. On the other hand, we were both disappointed that we got a mediocre cocktail instead of a dessert wine like Sauternes for the dessert portions, and for perhaps I would've liked to have at least a premier cru level Burgundy red (instead of the village level that we got to pair with the chicken dish) given the price tag of the pairing. The service was very attentive and professional, and chef Arnaud briefly stopped by to say hello as well. After the dinner, you can also visit the bar lounge or the outdoor garden of the hotel for some digestif. L'Assiette Champenoise offers the kind of refined fine dining experience you would want to enjoy while visiting Champagne. I probably, though, would've loved the restaurant even more with some more game-changing dishes and wine pairings.

When we thought there wasn't going to be another dish, another one would arrive. Each dish was progressively better and better with an amazing desserts. The service was spectacular from start to finish. Everyone was super attentive and kind from start to finish. The space didn't feel stuffy at all - very cozy and welcoming g with lots of funky art!
