Compared to other BJ's locations across the state, this one feels noticeably limited in both space and selection. It gets the job done for basic needs, but if you're used to the larger warehouse experience, this one might feel a bit underwhelming.

It was well stocked, but it took me some time to find everything I was looking for because the layout of this store is a bit different from the one in West Hartford. There was a very kind lady offering samples of corn and apple sauce, she was working at both stations simultaneously. Each time I passed by her she offered it to me again. I told her, I just had it, she said "that's ok, have another one!" I always thought the people who check for your BJ's membership card as you're walking in was the most ridiculous job, because you can't really do much without your card. On this occasion they didn't ask for my card. I was convinced it was in my purse. After my shopping cart was filled and I went to pay, I discovered I didn't have my card. Lucky it was in my car, so all time wasn't wasted. Their job to check for your card, actually has a purpose, holding you responsible that you know where your card is. BJ's is a Club Warehouse. Their membership is $55 annually. This is where I typically go to fill up my car with gas. Their gas prices are the best.

I also get some supplies and shelving there that was cheaper than retail price and it was good quality as well as strong enough for the items I am storing in it. But we think they deserve a little extra credit. Sure, they have some good products at discounted (sometimes VERY discounted) prices, and every now and then there's a stumble. But the store's employees (at this location, anyway) seem well trained, pleasant and helpful when we're around. Further -- and importantly -- the store has a sense of community responsibility, which is probably part of a larger management philosophy that we heartily approve of. One example: if you buy a winter coat for the store to donate to the needy, you get a $40 store certificate in return. It seems a good deal for those in need; we know one of the recipients, and we think this is a genuinely caring project. So yeah, there's an occasional complaint, but overall we're very happy to shop here and expect to continue doing so.

Clothing, hats, and (tons of) jewelry are in fabulous condition, but the prices reflect that. If you're looking for a fedora or a ladies hat to go with your vintage Chanel, this is the place. I'm not sure where you'd wear it, but check out the long green velvet cape in the front window. Very Gothic, or Jane Eyre, or fairy princess. Some furniture, books, and other stuff, but the main attractions are the dozens of unusual fixtures hanging from the ceiling. There are also floor lamps. One-of-a-kind stuff. But, again, the prices give you pause; a pair of Deco milk glass pendants were $895. Lamp repair seems to be a major thing here, and they'll also do appraisals (I don't know if that's just for jewelry or what.) Fun to browse, but I haven't been tempted to buy. The guy repairing a lamp in the back said hi but didn't offer any help. And I think this is the kind of place where you need help.

Amazingly, Karen, the owner, is not only extremely knowledgeable and helpful but knows where just about every little thing is at all times!! While the jewels are my primary target, the lamps and vintage clothing, especially the hats and furs, are to die. I have been shopping here for many years, as have numerous friends I've sent in, and am always surprised by the treasures I discover. Since moving to NYC, I long to make more frequent visits as even the city does not boast stores of this quality in terms of selection, value and expertise. I have also had several pieces repaired - including a Robert Lee Morris belt buckle - all of which are now in even better condition than they had been originally. Other reviewers have mentioned that the prices are either high or unfair and I strongly disagree. Clearly they do not understand the value or quality of this type of merchandise. Karen carefully selects, repairs and restores costume jewelry from many well-known jewelers as well as anonymous original pieces - the likes of which are often cheaply replicated and may be difficult for some to distinguish from the real deal. Trust me, it is worth it to by an authentic piece that you will either have for many years or be able to resell at a later point.

Food, clothing, household goods, toys, furniture, small appliances, health and beauty aids -Big Lots has them all. The store was squeaky clean, free of clutter in the aisles, the shelves were stocked with easy to read pricing, and the staff was super polite, friendly and very helpful. As you walk through the store, you'll find markdown sections, where the pricing gets even better. For example. We picked up two packets of sunflower butter for a quarter each. We also got a super nice 4 Quart covered pan for $20, nicely priced Zip Lock bags, aluminum foil, shampoo, Lever soap bars, laundry detergent, some soup, and beef jerky rounded out our eclectically random order. To make things even better, if you previously shop at Big Lots (like we have), you'll occasionally get a $10 off of $20 coupon and random offers for free stuff, like yesterday's two-pack of Kleenex tissues. So, with our discounts, we paid just $37 before tax for all of that random stuff, including the $20 frying pan. Good pricing, a pleasant staff, and a neatly stocked store combined to provide us with a very enjoyable shopping experience.

Walking inside, the high ceilings and the balloons everywhere were the first things I saw. Luckily, the balloons are contained to the front but there's a lot of them. The first aisles have seasonal (at the time, Easter) and the rest do have what you need for day to day living. Also, perhaps things you don't ... I don't really need a cup holder trash can, but it's adorable and now it's mine. It was only a few bucks too, the cost value is what you've come to expect. This works better on some products then others - the baby blankets were very cost effective, also very thin. The aisles are pretty well faced, and there's nothing blocking the floor.
