She left me with brassy orange yellow stripes bleeding hair and uneven patches . I went to a consultation to get it fixed they said it's the worst job they have ever seen. The salon also threatens to call the Vancouver police and makes up I called with threats I called simply to chat with the owner which staff told me she would call back. After researching salons on Yelp, I decided to purchase this Groupon for a haircut with Brandon C. at InSalon in Yaletown. And I'm so glad I did! (Note: I was really hesitant to purchase another Groupon for a hair salon after my dismal experience a few months back at Selfology. See my review of that horrid experience, and the owner's reply. I'm still chuckling over that one; apparently, I'm a "coconut". Who knew? lol). What a terrific experience here at In Salon, from beginning to end: booking my appointment was super easy. The salon itself is conveniently located and super cute, with an industrial-chic aesthetic. I was seen right on time (I really appreciate when places don't keep me waiting and waiting and waiting. My time's worth something! This is a big gripe of mine). And Brandon was really amazing! He recommended a style/cut for me which I LOVE (I wanted something stylish but crazy-low maintenance. Usually stylists give me something that, although nice looking, is impossible for me to replicate the look. But Brandon's cut is so good, I just wash it and brush it and literally, it falls into place and I walk out the door. I've gotten so many compliments on my haircut, and I literally do NOTHING to it. It's all in the cut). So he gave me a style exactly what I requested. And I really love it. I also like the little touches: offering complimentary beverages; the scalp treatment (nice!), and most of all, the follow-up email, asking if I was happy with the haircut and offering to address any touch-ups or issues after the fact. The 20 minutes I spent in this salon made me feel so welcome and comfortable. I went to the receptionist and she pointed me to the sitting area while she called Stephanie. Stephanie did my hair extensions consultation. She was very friendly and accommodating you'll feel like you can ask her anything. She explained the process of getting my hair done. What type of hair extensions, color matching, length, how long it would take to install, how long it would take to remove, how to take care of the extensions, what kind of brush to use, how often you need to brush and the cost of the extensions. Although I didn't go through having my hair extensions done (I can't afford it at this time), I felt like I have all the information I need once I'm ready to get it. I made an apt with Gabrielle who i had seen last summer at Citrus salon. I liked what she did with my hair last summer. I am visiting from Toronto for a short time. Waited a week into my travel to see her. Brought her pictures and was assured it would be the same. After four hours of sitting in the chair i was very disappointed with my hair this time. I feel like I'm walking out the same look i walked in. I was even going to come tomorrow to put in extensions but canceled. I went here a while back and was a loyal customer for a couple years, spending thousands here. While the prices were steep, I genuinely liked the staff and the final result in my hair. However, the last time I went here, I recieved faulty extensions that were dry and ratty after the very first wash. I brought them back after a week or two and explained my situation and they basically blamed me for why they were that way even though I had only washed them once! They took the extensions and said they would try and see if the place they bought them from would return them because it may have been a fault on their end. I never heard back from them and they never issued a refund. My hair was visibly damaged afterwards and they offered no apologies. In from out of town. Robert was able to fit me in and actually come in early to do my hair. I'm fairly particular for a guy and saw some good reviews on him. He was great. Personable but not too much talking. I don't mean that rudely but you can get a stylist who talks non stop. Nice guy. Was METICULOUS about how he handled my hair and asked a lot of questions to make sure I got what I wanted. I would highly recommend him. The salon is funky and busy (always a good sign). I've had Whitney cut my hair several times now and I must say she is superb. She is very friendly, knowledgable and she sure knows her stuff. I was using several types of products combined to get a desired effect and with Whitney's expertise she suggested two new products which got me what I wanted and more. I've found with Whitney, she can tell if I'm in a chatty mood or just feel like reading and that's really important to me. She is great at what she's does and gets things done quickly without feeling rushed or sacrificing quality in any way. The stylist was very inexperienced as far as styles and the style i wanted and i did not get the result i wanted, although they made it look acceptable, it is not even remotely close to what i wanted, and most of my hair was highlighted and over processed, i just wanted a few highlights to match the bottom color of my ombre extentions to get a certain type of look, you can reference my sample picture, i had to go in twice because the first time my hair turned green -blonde, then i had to come in to have them strip the toner which added more stress to my hair, and then it wasn't toned again because they said it was good enough, leaving my hair a yellow blonde, when it was supposed to be a pale blonde. However they are very nice and will try their best, but if you want a certain look or style and you're doing blonde highlights from brown hair ,make sure you ask how experienced the person is before letting them attempt to experiment on your hair, and make sure you point out things if you think he/she's doing too much or not doing what they are supposed to be doing, question everything, and make sure you go over your sample pictures 20 times because there seems to be a lack of understanding, because i showed them pictures and went over it 4 times with 3 different stylists, overall i am still not happy with my hair, it doesn't look bad but my hair is ruined, i just wanted highlights, he made most of my hair blonde, he added too many foils that there is no break in the color, and it doesn't even look highlighted, it just looks like he dyed the top of my head blonde, it is yellow/gold and brassy and is exactly the opposite of what i wanted, and it feels like straw, good luck to everybody else and i hope you have a better experience than i did. UPDATE- after visiting a few other salons, i decided to go back and explain that my hair was unnecessarily damaged and that it was not what i wanted , and wanted to explore options on how to get my hair back to a healthier state, especially with summer round the corner, at this point my hair color and style are messed up, and there is no way to correct it at this point without damaging it more, i wish i got the few highlights that i asked for to begin with, i wouldn't be dealing with all this now, so i talked to the manager and she didn't know anything about any in salon treatments i could do, instead she pointed me to some in home treatments that i can stop by and buy from her shop, the way i feel is , you burnt/over processed my hair, and you didn't get the color or style correct to begin with and there are pictures that could be referenced to prove this, the least thing you could do is try to fix what you messed up, i don't mind paying, but this salon has no accountability, and the manager was not very knowledgable about treatments or my particular case, and tried to indicate that i should of been charged more for the time i spent in the salon, i just went it for a few simple high lights to blend with my extentions and came out with a head looking like a fried egg with a hint of brass, and the entire time i spent in the salon was because the stylist had to back peddle and try to fix and color correct, this is not how you should treat your customers, especially when they are trying to come to a resolution with you and give you another chance, i truly would not recommend this salon for anything, at least the stylist had the accountability and responsibility to try to make my hair look presentable after realizing that he was making big mistakes after just going all out with my hair, but the manager couldn't care less about what happened to me or the condition of my hair, and in some sort of tone was trying to imply it was my fault, i just want my fried egg hair that you created to be scrambled and fixed. I didn't receive what i asked for, my hair is totally damaged and needs to be color corrected and seriously treated to get it to a healthier state, and all they could offer me was expensive products that i can buy from their store to fix something that they did, the manager was telling me is was unrealistic to go blonde and not expect damage, which is precisely why i just wanted a few highlights because everybody knows this! I did not ask for an almost entire blonde head, i didn't want to be blonde because i valued my healthy hair, and i made this clear to different stylists in the beginning, i just wanted a few highlights thats's all. Why should i have to live with over processed hair that i didn't ask for? Unfortunately i will have to stay with this color and just condition it myself untill it grows out then i can cut it, obviously IN salon does not care about what the customer wants, and doesn't really care what happens to you after they get your money, just be careful, hair is very important to some people and it's not worth going somewhere, where they can get something so simple so wrong,my hair looks like a boxed dye job from walmart. read more

Ask for Robert! I was new to Vancouver and in need of a haircut, so I walked-in. Lucky for me I was given an appointment with Robert who did a great job that time and subsequently. I wear my hair short and am open to whatever the stylist wants to do. (I figure they are the expert and it's going to grow back pretty quickly, anyway.) Robert was nervous at first but pretty soon he had a creative plan in place for my haircut AND the next haircut after that one. They have all been fantastic. Now that I live in Seattle, I have to work my haircut with Robert into my trips to Vancouver! Plus, Robert is charming and generous and kind to animals. I've got naturally dark hair that seems to take forever to lighten but this girl's a bubbly magic colour wizard and had my hair changing within the hour (I've been to a salon that took 5+ hours to lighten my hair a barely noticeable dark brown). You'd think my hair would be destroyed from the bleach but it's actually pretty damn smooth.. it's somehow healthier than it was before we began, wth..? Also note worthy: In. Salon has a lot of friendly staff. They're dog friendly. They serve coffee, tea, and wine (some snacks would be great too just sayin ;D). They play great music. Konrad was my hair stylist and I have to say that he was absolutely incredible!! I went to this salon for hair extensio.Lo lied to me about the price. At first she said, the cost of the removal of my previous extensions and putting Some new ones, it would be 700 $. After finishing my extensions they charged me 1100$. She was supposed to use 100 bundles of hair for me but she used 50 bundles and before installing them she went to the back room and made them half. When I wanted to pay she disapeared and no one listened to me. Even one of the women working there made a grimace to me. She told me if you want wavy hair you should order 18 inches hair. I ordered them because I wanted wavy hair.But they were flat and she told me if I washed them, they would be wavy, but they didn't. So...I HAVE to write a review on my first and most recent visit to this salon. I'll be honest..I have been YET to find a hairdresser that actually KNOWS what they are doing and is HONEST. I'm 33. I've been black, blonde, brown, red, have had extensions of every kind. So I would say i'm a pretty experienced customer. I couldn't find a salon in Vancouver. So i went to Yelp and Facebook to find the best reviews. I wanted an ombre type look on my post-pregnancy hair (it's a wreck). Everywhere said that Erin is the best person to do blondes and she worked at In Salon. (I didn't know at the time she was the owner). So I booked with her. CAN I JUST SAY: WOW!!!!!! She was by FAR, the most EDUCATED, HONEST hairdresser I have been to IN MY LIFE. And I have been to some of the best salons in Toronto as well. She straight up told me - ya, that would great eventually but here's what you need to do NOW for your hair....she could have told me what every other hairdresser does "Oh go lighter, get highlights" and then my hair is fried afterward and comes out brassy or redder than when I went in before. She actually ended up DARKENING my hair (which looks AMAZING!!!) and got rid of the reddish tone I've been trying to get out for 3 YEARS. Then, she cut it - which is something I have refused to do for like 4 years...and I have gotten nonstop compliments on it. It's thicker, has some style to it now...she could have talked me into getting highlights which is more expensive but she didn't....and I appreciated her honestly with me telling me that I would look better darker and once it's healthier we can lighten it up a bit on the ends. She gave me exactly what I wanted without me even really knowing what I wanted! She took her time, she didn't rush..the last salon I went to in Vancouver rushed so fast through it that she sprayed water in my eyes and got hair dye all over my face which took a week for me to get out of my skin. She went over what products I should use and why but wasn't pushy. Lastly, when I went to cash out, she offered me $25 off for my first visit - something I didn't' even know about and she didn't have to let me know about - and THAT i really appreciated as well. It's a nice token as a first time customer and it makes you want to go back and refer them as well. THIS IS WHY people have such positive reviews on this salon and her because it truly is amazing. I will definitely go back and she is now my new hairdresser for as long as she is here lol. I honestly hope if you are reading this and debating on going, to book with her!!! I don't get to go to the salon much - I'm a stay at home mom of two little ones, but she didn't rush, I didn't' feel like I was "just another customer", which I know I am, but you aren't made to feel that way. Also, I was paying attention to the rest of the staff as well while I was there because i'm always curious when I go out to new places...she has a great team too and every person that left there left with AMAZING HAIR! Been to the salon 4 times, once for simple braids ($80!!) twice for highlights ($$) and once for a cut (affordable). Very friendly cool space and dog-friendly as most Yaletown shops are. Quite expensive for color/highlights, (a salon around the block is about half price, for example, using exact same products and treatments.) The stylists are of varied skills. Will probably return again for color, and possibly a cut but with a different stylist, but DO ask for the more experienced folks. I was really in love with my color done here twice, and they solved an issue I had been struggling with for a few years - to get the shadow root correct on my bleached hair without creating a hard line. I am very picky about my hair. I booked an appointment with Tara and oh boy she is amazing. She took the time to get to know me and how I take care of my hair. She started cutting a little by little and told me that if I wanted it shorter we can always go back and cut more. After my haircut(and a glass of wine) she told me if I want my hair more layers or any changes to just pop in and she is going to take care of it. It's hard to find this type of service. What to say about Robert? Hmmmm, other than he actually asked me to Yelp about him during my service? Ha ha I joke. I knew of Robert when he was at his former salon that I was frequenting. My stylist left and I thought why don't I start sitting in his chair? I was little apprehensive at first because it always takes time for a stylist and a guest to get to know each other. Plus I've got typical Asian hair that I wear short. Need I say more? In this case, I put complete trust in Robert's hands and he didn't disappoint. Fast forward two years and I'm still a happy guest - even following him from the former salon to "in". I've recently referred to really good friends to see him who wanted new looks. 3 days ago I had a cut and colour with Vanessa. I absolutely love my hair, her and the salon. I felt really welcomed by all the staff and Vanessa made me feel extremely comfortable!
