I had a binocular exam and Vision Processing Evaluation (three visits total) with InDepth this year. I wish I had known more about the full experience beforehand, so I'm sharing details that aren't reflected on the website to explain my two-star rating. I ultimately chose another provider for vision therapy locally, and in hindsight, starting there would have been easier. First, I want to acknowledge what went well. I trust the expertise of Dr. O and Jackie (VT). The exams themselves were thorough and high quality. While the narrative report could have been more detailed, Dr. O allowed me to take photos of three standardized test results, which provided enough data for me and my neurologist. They also showed flexibility in two situations: I was accidentally two hours late to my consultation after writing down the wrong time, and they still saw me. They also allowed me to call in my credit card number since my physical card hadn't arrived. My concerns are primarily about business and administrative practices. Clients must pay for the VPE and consultation at the end of the binocular exam. Vision therapy requires a minimum 20-week commitment, plus an equipment fee and mid-treatment progress testing fee -- all due on the first day of therapy. When I compared costs with other providers, the total was essentially the same. However, other offices offered significantly stronger customer service, more modern administrative systems, and a more contemporary structure overall. InDepth uses paper charts. While this system clearly works for them, clients do not receive electronic records or emailed files. I was given a printed copy of my report at my consultation and about 10 minutes to review it in the lobby before meeting with Dr. O. I sought care because I struggle with reading, so this format made it difficult to fully understand my results. When I emailed the office, Jane would call instead of replying electronically. Because their hours are limited, this often resulted in phone tag. Appointments felt efficient but rushed, with little opportunity to ask questions. As an adult paying out-of-pocket for learning-related services (which are not covered by insurance), I've previously worked with providers who offered ample counseling alongside testing and allowed direct email access. I assumed that level of communication was standard, but it was not my experience here. I found myself needing to advocate for basic information more than expected. My final interaction confirmed my decision to seek another provider. After my consultation, I requested that my test results and chart materials be scanned and emailed so I could review them fully. As I'm entering medical rehabilitation, I wanted access to the raw data and assessments in addition to the narrative report. Dr. O told me during the consultation that Jane could provide this. I emailed Jane and received a voicemail saying she was following up. After waiting several days without receiving documents, I called. She explained they did not have the ability to scan paper charts into electronic files. She also said she would need to ask Dr. O whether she could release my chart contents, though she later said she could mail my cover sheet without asking. When I clarified whether all of my paperwork would be mailed, the answer was vague. The interaction felt tense; responses were curt, I was interrupted, and my requests seemed misconstrued, though she repeatedly said, "I would love to do that for you." The overall tone felt unsupportive and, at times, gatekeeping. As an adult seeking care for vision issues that have impacted my academic and professional life, this was particularly discouraging. I was surprised that it seemed unclear why I would want access to my own health information -- similar to how someone would want to review graded exams or lab results. I respect that InDepth operates in ways that work best for their business and that they are not obligated to provide services beyond their model. I am grateful they exist, as I would have pursued therapy there if no other options were available. However, there are other providers in the community offering comparable services with more transparent communication and modern systems. If I had known these differences earlier, I would have made a different choice from the beginning. II would have preferred to share my feedback directly with Dr. O, but communication goes exclusively through Jane who declined to share Dr. O's email to me in the past. read more

I came to Dr. O's office on the recommendation from my boss. I had been experiencing double vision and my left eye would sort of skitter around / not be able to focus, especially when I was tired/stressed. This became so bad that simple tasks like driving and grocery shopping were tiresome and depressing. I decided I had not much to lose and enrolled in the 5 month program; I just graduated last week and my vision has improved beyond belief. Dr. O reviewed the testing numbers with me from before I started and now and every category showed a huge improvement. The staff is loving and kind, my daughter and I feel at home when we enter the building. You can tell that everyone at In Depth Vision is passionate about what they do, and they genuinely care about those that they are helping. My daughter was recommended to In Depth Vision due to having some head trauma that caused her to not see well, lose balance and delayed her reading and comprehension; she also had regular headaches. Eight months of vision therapy with Dr. O, and my kiddo is now confident in reading, is able to maintain balance, no longer wear bifocals, and is no longer suffering from headaches related to eye strain! I truly did not realize that VT would make such an important impact on my kiddos life. I am so grateful for the entire team from In Depth Vision, my family feels blessed to have been a part of the process that will forever positively impact my daughter's life. Dr. Odineal was able to increase my vision efficiency from 20% to 80%. Before therapy I had limited peripheral vision and rarely used both eyes at the same time. The office has an impressive array of advanced equipment and offers a large selection of tools and exercises that deliver results. The staff is very friendly and professional. I would recommend that anyone take the initial vision assessment, even if they feel they don't have any serious issues. read more

In Depth gave me my life back. After a few years and trying many other things to recover from a brain injury caused by a surgery I was sent to Dr. O. I was hesitant and feeling hopeless by the time I found her. Within a few weeks I was already doing things I couldn't manage before. Within about a year I could walk normal again! As a kid I had strabismus surgery to correct an inward turning left eye. It was a success cosmetically, but I never did any post surgical rehab for it. Since then, during the last 26 years, I've had trouble reading for any sustained amount of time. Studying through college got to be such a bear if there were large reading assignments. I saw an eye doctor who diagnosed and described the imbalance in muscles to me, and I ended up getting extra time on tests, and so forth. It wasn't until I was referred to Dr. Odineal's practice, however, that I learned there was actually a solution to the problem! I went through the rehab program for my condition at InDepth, with the help of Jane, Liz and Jackie, and did my homework they gave me each week. I no longer come home super fatigued from looking at a computer screen reading and focusing on things all day! My eyes used to be so tired at the end of the day (trying to constantly overcome those muscular imbalances) that I literally couldn't focus on the television to watch a show. I feel like I'm 20% more productive in a day now that my eyes are working properly! Definitely increased capacity to focus on things, and get things done. Dr. O, Jackie, Elsa, Becky and Jane... you have no idea how much your expertise, encouragement and help is appreciated. I can remember crying at the first appointment feeling like I didn't know how to help my son. Teachers said he was smart but there was some disconnect between his ability to read and see things and his brain. He was often caught staring out the window. Visually disengaged from the computer or whiteboard. He was extremely nervous to read out loud as a 4th grader. Vision therapy has changed EVERYTHING! He reads books just to read, I never thought I would say this. He now also feels that he can keep up with class. Time will close the gap between where he is now and where he will be. Without this program I would have never known that the problem was bigger than him just needing more practice in reading. He was seeing double at times, eyes working independently, reversing letters and unable to track when reading .... I feel like I have learned soo much in this process too. Dr. O has the amazing ability to locate the problem areas and is able to match the exercises to improve their skills. I watched a few times and she would step an assigned activity back with different prisms or lenses when he struggled too much. Adapting exercises to where he was. If I could offer advice to someone who was considering this program, I would say go get the binocular screening and just see. The staff is very honest and won't waste your time or money. I am so thankful I found In Depth Vision ! I spent one day a week with them for the better part of a year and they feel like family now. Everyone there is so compassionate and caring. As a child I was diagnosed with stabismus and wore glasses or contacts to help correct my crossed eye my entire life. As an adult I started noticing the crossing more and I wasn't able to control my eyes like I used to. Through the visits and exercises Dr. O gave me I am now feeling more confident because I can control my eyes so much better. My eyes look straight in pictures and I can tell when talking to people they aren't noticing my eye crossing. I would recommend going to In depth to anyone, they work with so many more eye problems than just crossed eyes. I drove all the way from Carmichael to Auburn once a week because I trusted them with my eyes and wanted the best possible treatment and outcome and I KNOW I couldn't have gotten that anywhere else. read more
