Having said that, it's probably due for some sort of re vamp soon. Valley Girl is primarily for young girls, and has definitely raised the anti since I first started shopping here when I was 13. The clothes remain cheap; and although there may be the odd expensive buy, you usually don't have to wait too long until that particular splurge goes on sale. Thus you can find some good (and by good, I'm placing greater emphasis on cheap) pieces here, even if you happen to be significantly older than the main store demographic. Personally I think Valley Girl is great for various bargains such as (disposable) swimwear. For about fifteen bucks you can often walk away with two bikinis. They may only a summer or two but when it's that cheap, what does it matter?

A sexy girl in a sexy dress is a certainty to be spotted at least once in a visit to Rundle Mall, Adelaide. Come here on any given weekday and you'll believe me. It's only a matter of time before you suddenly turn your head towards that girl's direction...I remember an American businessman friend of mine that told me, "When I visited Australia for the first time, and I saw how beautiful Aussie women were, I knew it was highly likely that I could get into trouble. And I'm married." This isn't an understatement. I've fallen victim to the lure of Aussie women several times before. I especially loved the music that was playing. It's hard not to like a store when they have a playlist of a Sade song, followed by 'World Tour' by 'A Tribe Called Quest'. Frilly at the top, and skimpy and tight around the waist and legs. The prices are higher than usual, and you can get far classier dresses for a lower price. Miss Gladys Sym Choon still deserves a lot of credit for its designs from the Malaysian designer. Although designs can be simple and of one bright colour (my top two colours from this store are bright red or metallic black), there are other items on offer, and you've gotta appreciate that they've allocated a generous section for menswear too. Though not the best on prices, Miss Gladys Sym Choon do dresses very, very well. It was funny, because once I asked the shop assistant for a sexy dress, he was on fire and picked out five different colours without any hesitation! The other girls downstairs saw what was happening and they laughed when I said, "She's tryin', I'm buyin!'" LOL For those of us blokes who randomly suddenly get a testosterone hit while shopping, Miss Gladys Sym Choon will cause your jaws to drop. Thank you so much. The best way to end my day. I left there thinking, "Damn girl, you looked sexy in those tight dresses. Sexy, sexy, sexy." This store, like the Sade song, "gave me a kiss of life."

This unique accessory store opened up in Glenelg this year. The owner is beautifully dressed and gracious in her approach and certainly passionate about her stock. On visiting the store recently , she spent a lot of time and patience showing me her diverse selection of watches. It is good to find a shop that offers something different in an era of mass produced products. So, if you are looking for something different for yourself or a gift and have quite a few dollars to spend this could be for you.

The lady showed mum several options and was patient with mum's indecisiveness. Touche de Paris also sells other accessories such as jewellery, watches, wallets and sunglasses. I'm not sure if I'd recommend this store to my friends (because it seems a bit mature for our age group), but I would recommend it to anyone with a taste for Paris, luxury and a big budget!

I was pleasantly surprised to find beautiful vintage dresses for forty bucks, Mink Pink shorts for twenty five, and some fantastic statement jewellery that was also well priced. When I picked up a long pair of shorts with blue paw prints all over them, I knew they were hipster pants and I had no business wearing them. But I had to try them on anyway. The lovely proprietor insisted very kindly that no, I was not too old to pull off these crazy bloomer shorts. I didn't end up buying them because I imagined the expression on my boyfriend's face if he saw them and I just don't think his heart could take it. I will definitely return to Azalia, the manager was lovely to talk to and has a passion for affordable vintage fashion, as well as a real love of Queen Street, the 'almost secret but not for much longer' up and coming area of Adelaide.

I probably shouldn't be telling you about it because I want to keep it all to myself. For those who love rummaging for one off pieces no one else will be wearing (read: me), it's a cosy downstairs oasis of awesomeness. Owned by a mother / daughter duo (naww!), it's a well-curated selection of labels that are otherwise hard to find in Adelaide: like fashionista faves Limedrop, Maise and MyPetSquare to name a few. They also stock suitably kitsch objects, a smattering of retro records as well as handmade and local goodies (think candles, jewellery, shoes...). They usually have pretty sweet tunes on in the store too (it's named after a Bob Dylan track, after all). And let's not forget the preloved treats too. The selection isn't huge, but it *is* often on sale, so you can nab yourself a pair of patterned pants for summer at a pretty reasonable price. Definitely worth checking out for when you want that one off addition to the wardrobe.

Truth be told, I am much more an op-shopper and less a 'vintage store' shopper, as I invariably find that they clothing is over-priced. However, if you're really looking for retro, they have a great selection of true 70s and 80s fashion. If you want to get a sense of what is fashionably retro, you can get it here. Bold, horrendous floral prints, stretch materials, high waists and short short skirts there are plenty of. However, in terms of slightly more original oddities, they don't have a lot that really catches my interest. However, as a specialty store, they have their niche worked out and they do it well. Their clothing-filled basement has a fantastic atmosphere, and even if the clothes aren't your thing, it's always an interesting place to browse.
