Walls are "Slate" and Floors are "Lakeshore Drive".

I had Impressive Basements do a major overhaul on my basement. They created a bedroom with two closets (one cedar), installed a full kitchen and created a full bathroom (with linen closet & built in cabinet). From the owner to the contractors, I couldn't be happier with the communication and the final product. If you can dream it, they can do it! Highly recommend them to my friends and family. Thank you Impressive Basements - we love our basement!

Let's start with the positives: The owner of Detroit Build came out and looked at the job and was…read morevery helpful. The workers who came into our house were very kind and friendly. They covered all of our floors leading up to the bathroom (remodel). The completed job matches our original plan. They were able to make adjustments when things were not going according to plan. They were able to obtain all the materials we picked out. Anytime we reached out to our Project Manager he was able to respond and give us information in a timely manner. Since we don't have a garage, they were able to provide us with a trailer which held all of our materials on site. Negatives: They gutted the bathroom as planned. When they laid the floor, they never covered it with paper so they continued to remodel the bathroom walking on the newly installed floor. Seems like not a big issue, but it's winter and they were dragging in dust, snow, ice and salt onto our new black floor. All of the debris was falling onto the new floor. Due to the fact that multiple people are working on multiple jobs, mistakes were made and workers had to come back out to fix errors made. Part of why we went with Detroit Build is because they had a design team. We were still required to go out and find the materials on our own. Our assumption was they would take care of this step. While our Project Manager did get back to us, we had to reach out weekly to get updates. At the end of the project the only cleaning that was done was construction cleanup. We were disappointed to find out that they did not have a cleaning company to take care of this job. It wasn't a clean and pristine feeling that you would expect with a remodel. We had to call and get a "deep clean" on our newly remodeled bathroom.

Detroit Build remodeled our main bathroom and delivered a good job; communication before and during…read morethe project was excellent; towards the end of the months-long project it tapered off a bit (probably because the contractors got used to us working from home and somebody always being there). A slight miscommunication occurred likely in the quoting stage already, where I may not have picked up on a bidet seat being installed where I wasn't expecting that to happen. But that would also explain the higher re-quote that I approved, so there's that. We came to like it anyways and are happy with it. Kevin was a great Project Manager; whenever I saw something that needed improvement, Kevin took care of it. Their Showroom in Royal Oak to pick designs / tiles etc. is definitely a plus. The job was billed exactly as quoted; if there is something I would recommend doing would be a formal, final walk-through at the end of the project. There are a few very minor things I would have wanted to at least discuss or have some advice on. Overall I'd highly recommend Detroit Build and would work with them on a future job any time.

We purchased our new house in November of '23, and as part of the purchase agreement, siding that…read morewas falling off would be fixed or replaced. Our Real Estate agent had stated that this company would be the individuals to do the work. Months went by and via text and calls, appointments were missed that were promised, "Something" always seemed to come up. In March of '24, our contact delivered supposed remorse, and as we were also looking to get a new front door and attic insulation, offered us a "deal" to help compensate for the wait. We agreed - much to our chagrin. Fast forward to June '24. Pages and pages of texts demonstrating missed appointments and delays. Finally - our siding was installed by a local sub-contractor, almost 8 months after the original agreement was initiated. Note - as an aside - unknown to us, a family of bats had apparently took up residence between the open siding and our interior garage wall, then moved into the garage proper once the siding blocked off their original exit. Good times. Still however; no door, no insulation - (Hello electric bill in the summer, pleased to meet you!)- and money invested but work unrealized. Reams of texts continued and in one surrealistic week, the installer essentially promised on five consecutive days that they would be there or one of their sub's would be there "Tomorrow" at 9 or 10 am, only to disappoint. I missed work days in the beginning waiting for them, we missed our kids new friends' birthday party and other events holding out the hope one of those promises would come to fruition. In fact, by this time, we were almost afraid to say "No" to a promised day, such that it might actually happen. It is now late August, 2024. We asked for a refund recently after a hard conversation with our contact, and are again seeing the same behavior, the same dissembling. "The door was special order and we have to wait for the funds come to us before we can refund you" - Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow they say but it has already been 2 weeks. We are now being told by someone whom states that they, not our original contact, are the business owner and that "we will see our refund on Wednesday 9/4". Oddly enough, but not unsurprisingly, our original contact stated he was the business owner in previous conversations, presented himself as such to mutual acquaintances and is even listed as such in another review on this site. I've seen a few good reviews from across various sites for this company, and I'd like believe that they are genuine. This however does not mitigate nor change our opinion that PJ Construction LLC, based in Royal Oak, Michigan, desperately needs improvements in business administration, scheduling, and customer service. Our frustration with the lack of integrity and follow-through has been both considerable and disheartening.
