The cafe is anchored by open kitchen/dining room in converted shipping container. The space, all blond wood, green tiled counter, and sixties swivel chairs, opens onto the expansive, gravelly garden. Herb filled planters, plenty of bike parking, and a stretch of picnic ready astro turf makes for an inviting and relaxing place to chill and have a coffee. The well curated menu features waffles with figs, a brisket sandwich, a "raw" salad, and selection of baked goods, and plenty of eggy things. I had the crumbed green tomato sandwich with tomato relish, mayo, and pickled onion on a fluffy brioche bun. Very decadent for a veggie sandwich, but full of flavour (could fried green tomatoes be my new favourite Melbourne cafe trend? Very likely). I was super stoked to see a small, mixed green salad punchy with vinigar dressing accompanying my sandwich. Perfect to cut through the sweetness and richness of the sandwich. It was a very reasonable 11 dollars. My flat white was good, served plenty hot, as I like it, and service was friendly, if a bit rushed. So far, so good. I'm eager to come back and try a few more dishes here: As it is, Rudimentary has one of the best spaces in the west and at least one very good sandwich...Looking forward to next time.

On the outside there's a cool Japanese language inspired black and white mural, and inside there's lots of art, ornaments and fun things to see. Gyoza are the main item on the menu, and there's quite a few different types to choose from. We also loved the fries with tasty sauce and cauliflower karaage with a delicious sauce. You need to order food and drinks at the counter and there's not too many seats available, though we did spot some large communal tables for groups. The craft beer selection is great. Lots of Japanese beers and Melbourne craft beers that fit the theme. You choose which beer you want from a big vending machine and pay at the counter. There's also a "mystery beer" option if you can't decide. The food & ambience were really nice, and despite a few opening hiccups you can tell that they will iron these out and it will be a great addition to Collingwood. It would be great to have a couple more vegetarian options on the menu (maybe one more type of gyoza), table service and some more seating. Despite all that, I'm looking forward to visiting again soon.

Before a recent 4 day stint at the showgrounds, I was starting to panic that I wouldn't have good…read moreaccess to food. A friend suggested Reverence and what a mighty fine recommendation it was. A takeaway coffee on the first day was solid, the friendly service really elevating the experience and convincing me I needed to return for a more leisurely visit. Later in the week I escaped the showgrounds for a couple of hours to get a little work done and to get some food that didn't come pre-packaged (as is usually the case in an expo like environment). A ginger & lemongrass tea was brewed to order and a chalkboard special of warm lentil salad with greens, yoghurt and a poached egg was filling, nutritious and above all delicious! That's the kind of wholesome, soothing food I could eat all the time and it's sad that so few cafes bother to offer something out of the sandwich/poached egg/ other stuff with wheat and bread options. Nice one Reverence. Again, the service was charming and this time I got to enjoy the old school set up, miss-matched furniture and cool tunes. A+ would come again.

Once upon a time Ascot Vale was the suburb no one had heard of. Hell, even now people don't know…read morewhere it is, squeezed between the Ponds of Moon (aka Moonee Ponds) and Newmarket (renowned as the host of dumpling house Laksa King). But ask someone how to get to the Vale? Nup. So the presence of a 'specialty coffee and tea' house is not a good outcome for those who are comfortable with streets full of yummy mummy road warriors and African guys from the local housing commission chilling outside the internet café. But helpful if you're explaining where you live to the hipsters of Fitzroy. While I question the commercial sense of Reverence Specialty Coffee and Tea setting up the tenth coffee house on a four block stretch - not to mention being in the middle of the 'burbs -it's brilliant if you're after a single origin espresso or a cold drip and some cheese cake. Floor to ceiling windows and brown-and-orange minimalist outfitting creates a cavernous space inside the former 'avvocato e solicitor' office. While perturbing a number of food bloggers who, having survived the lengthy no. 57 tram trip to get there, blanched before imparting their approval, it's nice to have a big table and some space over which you can read a broadsheet newspaper with breakfast or lunch. They could, however, use some cushions on the high chairs in front of the windows - they look cool but aren't particularly comfortable to sit on. Reverence has also nailed a key aspect that any new entrant to suburban café culture requires if it's to survive: friendly staff. Said friendly staff member was with my Honduras aguas dulce filter that came - and this needs to be pointed out - in one of those excellent double-walled thermo glasses. The food is good, the coffee is an education, and the location is on the sidelines of a bourgeoning it-spot. It's unlikely Ascot Vale and its cafes like Reverence are going to remain undiscovered gems for much longer.

Firstly we were told to sit and someone will come to us we waited and waited and waited no one came however when someone finally came she served the lady next to us who came after us we felt special... The same waitress then continued to talk with other patrons near us for around 15 minutes she can't be to busy... The food was bland overpriced very average at best we frequent many other places in the area that are so much better with food and service not sure how you have a 4.5 score I give you a 1 at best. If you're looking for nice food and good service try anywhere else but this place. I leave good reviews when I have a good experience and a negative review if I have a poor experience I have to say it's little wonder your business is poorly run when the owner can't even handle feedback your unprofessional reply pretty much sums up my negative feedback. ***UPDATE*** After meeting with the owner in person, he still failed to address any of the issues I raised online. I was told that I should have raised the issues when we were asked how the meal was. Maybe because we weren't asked! The staff member already knew we weren't happy with the service, and had no interest in asking. Just a heads up to anyone looking to try this place - the owner told me that negative Google reviews are only used by people wanting freebies. He has no interest in making any changes.

Yummmm! Why didn't I know about this place sooner?!…read more West 48 is a little cafe in West Footscray that looks so uninhabited when you first drive past but once you open that front door, you soon realise how popular it truly is. We took a table out front because it was absolutely jamming inside, quickly ordered a couple of lattes and I was pretty pleased to see that they serve Allpress. And deliciously made lattes with Allpress. I ordered the scrambled eggs on sourdough with grilled tomato, bacon and mushrooms - and low and behold... I could cut through the sourdough with a simple bread knife. You win, West 48! I will definitely coming back here very soon, especially since my typically very picky boyfriend also scoffed through his meal with no complaints! The staff are super friendly, very on the ball. The fact that we got welcomed by 3 or 4 people, and genuinely thanked for stopping by was a really nice way of finishing off our brekkie.
