Have you ever been somewhere and just gone wow this food is the bee's knees! The cats Pyjamas! Or some variant to that effect. Because this place most certainly did that for me.
Firstly the decor is lovely, post modern layout. The floor tiles are older but very modern, dark, grey coloured which matches the tone of the wood tables and dividers. Interestingly half of the cafe is only six months old because they've done so well they had to expand. Which they so deserve!
Now something that surprised me on my second visit was the staff. Not for their kind words, presentation or genuine interest in who I was or what I wanted but rather for the detail to how as people they matched the cafe and it's food. As if the cafe was built around them or as if the cafe was hired by them not the other way around haha.
It's so stark that one staff member actually stood out feeling as though he didn't belong (this doesn't denote from anything, I just found that the recruiting is taken just as seriously as the food).
The staff are wonderful, didn't interrupt during my meal but asked afterwards without sounding like a prerecording. The manager and I spoke with a bit about the place and was a delight to speak with. Very dedicated however would come and ask a few question every now and again whilst I wrote which caught me off guard and made me forget what I was trying to convey in the review.
So the coffee is good. I'm pedantic with coffee so it's never good enough for me haha. But this blend was nice. Portion was pretty accurate but wouldn't go to say perfect. First cup seem to be off second was too but fine.
Now the food, banana bread is great. Good texture, soft, little bit of a crunch, home made. Crumbled on the fork which made me worry a tad but was far far far from dry. The lemon curd was beautiful, and the presentation was just as beautiful. Over all a star dish.
The "out benny" dish which is a take on the classic is a super star. Loved it! Hands down! Hollandaise sauce could be a bit more tangy but otherwise it's a perfect dish. Presentation amazing as per what I now expect from them.
The southern fry chicken burger also was a enjoyment. The chicken wasn't deep fried batter either, thumbs up! And the chips? They were like fresh maccas chip, not too sure if it's a cost effective decision or a flavour move but either way it's very cool and they taste great.
My brother enjoyed the pancakes which I finished off for him, so I can't truely give a opinion on them but what I did have was too great. The macadamia nuts on it were outstanding!? To the point where I had to ask them if they prepared them here or if they purchased them like that!!
Over all I'm going to keep on coming back. This place is amazing and it just makes me want to try every dish on the menu. They came so very close to five stars it's not funny, and I may even change the star rating after my next visit.
Truly a pleasure to eat here. read more
