Once upon a time I was in graduate school and doing a lot of work out in western Nebraska -- Imperial especially. On my first trip out, following the habits of my research group, I went to make a reservation at the motel in town, which was full and whose staff recommended I check the Balcony House. I am eternally grateful. My entire research group's enthusiasm for traveling to Imperial improved after this event. Jim and Linda are fantastic hosts. Their home is unbelievably charming and well cared for. I've stayed with them probably a half-dozen or more times (I think I've slept in every room), and each time I am in awe of their business. Fresh coffee and cookies, always. Linda is the most exceptional cook, whose meals make my mouth water thinking of them now. One time I was there, Linda had injured wrists, and Jim was in charge of breakfasts. Those were outstanding too -- though he quickly admitted that if you stayed longer than three days, you'd start getting repeats. There was one time that I was coming to Imperial and they were FULL (stupid hunting season!). I had to stay at that motel after all, even after vowing I never would. You know what Jim and Linda said? They told me to COME OVER FOR BREAKFAST anyway, even though I would be staying at the motel. They are the salt of the earth. I am so very fortunate to have gotten to know them over the years. p.s. If you're in town for a lunch, I *love* M&M's Natural Jazz. The Reubens (regular and turkey) are spectacular. If you're gluten-free, they got you covered. Imperial is a special place. I wish I still had excuses to visit regularly.

Loved that we were able to pick or room from all the photos and choices. We called wanting to stay. The owner met us and showed us around. We enjoyed everything about Doc's. We felt at home and comforted with the personalized touch of staying there . The whole place was set up like originally back in the days . Antiques displayed but with a certain touch of perfection . The price of the room was perfect and being close to downtown it's easy to walk to a place for dinner . In all , I will definitely come back .

Totally loved this place…read more Quaint old hotel, I won't call it "older" - I have no idea when it was built but I would guess earlier 1900's. Place is old and it shows but the dining room/living room and our room were all incredibly clean. Right in the heart of Holyoke, you can easily walk the block or two to any store/restaurant in town. Owning couple are friendly/sweet and served coffee and cinnamon rolls both very early mornings during our stay, wake up stumble down to the living/dining room and everything was ready/waiting at 5:30 AM. Hotel wireless was phenomenal - you can get 1Gb fiber anywhere within city limits! Edit: will stay here again!

The kitchen has fairly updated appliances. everything worked. The furniture was comfy and very conducive to a family of three for a week. We even had our own entrance which which is really nice if you are someone who has to make use of hotels often. This felt very much like renting a furnished apartment, which was much more comfortable than a typical hotel/motel. Another bonus, it is walking distance to the grocery store and several restaurants (which is not the case for the other motel/hotel in town).

She was so pleasant and professional. Wish I would have got her name. We found our selves in a 4th floor room at the end of the hall with great pillows and a comfortable king sized bed. I slept so well. The air conditioning allowed for a cool room and a nice hum to drown out my husband's snoring. The shade kept it so dark. Did I mention I slept so well?! Breakfast was great. Scrambled eggs were fresh and hot. Oatmeal had fresh toppings. I even liked that they had an open milk container so I didn't have to open one of those cardboard milk cartons for my oatmeal then throw out 3/4 of it. Cudos to the breakfast manager. Great stop!

Stayed here for one night after attending a friend's wedding nearby. I was a tad hesitant due to it…read morebeing a random motel in the middle of nowhere but it came recommended by a friend so I booked a room ($75 per night) and I am glad I did!! It's a cute little motel right off the side of the road just outside Julesburg. Slightly dated decor but everything was super duper clean - including the exterior of the building and the bedding, floors and the bathroom inside the room. There is a large mini fridge and a microwave in the room and our room had plenty of closet space. It is right next to the railroad tracks which didn't bother me but if you're not used to trains it may keep you awake for a little bit at night as the trains were running several times per hour all through the night. Make sure you call ahead when you're about 15 minutes out as my fiancé had to call when he got there and had to wait a few minutes for the owner/front desk manager to drive over and give him the keys and run his card. Checkout was a breeze - we just left the key in the room per instructions and got back on the road.
