Wine and ciggie time!

Wow it's been a lot of years since I went to the imperial but here it is still standing! Quite a bit of outdoor seating which is always a plus. And happy hour till 7pm with $7 drinks the night I went - bargain! We also has some dinner here - a superfood salad to share and a good sized serving of chicken skewers in a nice spicy peanut sauce. There isn't a lot around this part of south yarra in terms of bars so this is a good one!

Great atmosphere, good quality food, slightly over prices drinks. I have walked past the Imperial a number of times and have seen the crowds out the front, but for some reason never ventured in. This time my girlfriends decided it was time to test the waters, being a Tuesday night the hotel was offering a 12 for 12, this was 12 meals for only $12. We sampled quite a few meals between us, tuna salad, tomato and mozzarella gnocchi, chicken caeser and chicken parma. The tuna salad came out more than 20 minutes before the rest of our meals, not really a problem for us as we had already devoured 2 bottles of house Savvy B. Once we had all received our meals we tucked in and were very satisfied with the serving and quality. I found the drinks to be over priced, we had originally considered sharing jugs of beer, but even pots were way too expensive. Deciding to settle on a few bottles of white the cheapest was a local Savignon Blanc priced at $35, needless to say we polished off 3! Not the for drinking, but a good venue for outdoor seating and affordable midweek meals.

I stayed at The Cullen Melbourne - Art Series expecting true 5-star standards, but was deeply…read moredisappointed. On my third night, I found cockroaches in my room ,one on the bed and another on the wall. I have related videos as proof. When I reported it, staff acted like nothing had happened and even room service wasn't informed. Their solution was to move me to Room 217, but with no soundproofing, the noise from passing trains made it impossible to sleep. For such unhygienic conditions, the hotel only offered a one-night refund. This is unacceptable and does not reflect the protocols or service expected from a 5-star property.

I've really tried to like this hotel. I've stayed here twice now in the last few months. My first…read morestay was for 10 days. This current stay is only for 4 nights. During my first stay, I ended up booking what was sold as a two bedroom room. It turned out to be a room that was just divided by curtains. It was also a a room facing commercial Rd which also happens to be the home to a thumping night club that went all night for numerous nights. I couldn't sleep! I was told there was nothing they could do for me and they couldn't give me an alternative room. Suck it up buttercup! On this stay I checked in on a Saturday and immediately reported that my TV doesn't work. Nothing was done to fix it. Tonight (Monday) I wanted to watch the final day of the ashes cricket. I got to my room hoping they'd finally fixed my tv. Nope, they couldn't give a sh1t it seems. I had to go down to reception to plead for them to fix it, because the phone system doesn't work either. Rose on reception basically said, Yeah...... I know, other people have complained as well. I said ok, but fix it. Rose said, nah, theirs nothing I can do, not my responsibility. That's it! Nada, who cares, it's done, thanks for staying. This place is just poorly run. Don't stay here! Spend your money somewhere that they care and deserve your hard earned.

Close to parks and running trails along the Yarra River plus shops and restaurants galore just outside the door. Studio room is small. Two bed suite is enormous! Street side (chapel St) has noise. Other side is much quieter although not a pretty view (construction cranes). The staff can pretty much get what you need and are really pleasant to very warm and friendly. No such thing as attitude. Art is a nice theme. It's sophisticated and yet whimsical. Small things here and there (not worth mentioning) keep this from being a 5 star.

Stay in a Art Series Hotel. Check. Now to collect them all. Like Pokemon. Okay, maybe not Pokemon…read morethat would be child-like, but my first experience at an Art Series hotel was so pleasant and without fuss [insert many more adjectives here that sing this hotel's praises] that I'll be sure to complete the set with stays at the Cullen and Blackman post haste. From the ever helpful concierge to the ghost chairs in the room and more, there was not one thing I could fault about my stay here. Even being in a conference on their 9th floor felt more like a holiday (with wrap around city views) than a 'work-thing'. Best of all some of Melbourne's best eats and drinks are mere stone's throw from you. *cough* Two Birds, One Stone *cough*.
