Too bad almost all OC dog parks have areas that are not too nice for small dogs and their owners. Lotta dirt and tiny enclosures. Not as if the dogs care so much, but this human does. Even though I very much enjoyed this dog park, it would have been better to have a water fountain for dog bowls INSIDE instead of having to go OUTSIDE the enclosure to fill up the bowl's interspersed inside. There are 2 separate fenced in areas for Large and Small Dogs but since no other dog was there, we went into both sides. There is trash and dog poop people haven't picked up. The dog park does have a parking area right next to it unless u want to walk through the park. They have two areas for the dogs- small and large. The small dog side is pretty decent size with water fountain, bowls, and doggie bag dispenser. It's pretty clean. It has a few agility equipment items. We tried the ramp and it was super steep so u need to run to get up it. It was a Tuesday morning so only one other dog not interested in playing but we sniffed until our hearts were delighted. There were more dogs on the big dog side. There is a little grass on the small dog side which is nice where as the big dog side is almost none. Overall this is a nice park to bring your pups!

But I never made it in. I walked around the immediate vicinity to ensure this park was the only dog park area, since I saw 2 dogs (a rottie & pit) in there, and someone laying down...didn't wanna go I guess. Welp that was it, as I approached the dog area w/my dog on leash the pitfall started barking, so the person got up and started going through her stuff. The pit continues barking, but the tail wags a bit....But then the lady comes over with a leash and clips the pit. I asked her if the rottie was dog friendly - no clue what she said. She then puts the handle portion just over the fence post. I told her that's not secure nor safe, and she mumbled something I couldn't understand. I think she went to get another leash, but I told her that's okay we would leave as I don't feel safe with her dogs. The rottie ran along the fence line barking at us (rolled down back window) as we drove out - I guess they were mad we didn't come play.Not sure if you can make out the pit in the photo, he/she isn't big, but I don't want need any problems for my dog or myself. - especially if the dogs ganged up on my dog or me. I don't believe in breed targeting/discrimination, so the fact that these two are deemed "aggressive" breeds by society's standards has 0 bearing here. Just wanted folks to be aware of this lady. It's hard to make out the pit, in the right corner. Without this lady (I feel like she's a consistent customer here), I'd rate this place a 3-star since it does cover the basics.

One of the oldest parks in the South Bay. Been coming here for years, there is 2 of them in between…read morethem there's a restaurant. Both parks are good for parties & hangouts & BBQ's. When I was a kid most Easter's & Birthday parties were here. One park has a pier to fish the other has a loading deck for boats. When I was a teenager I came here as well but not for family gatherings but to hang out with friends. And it's a good spot to bring girls late at night & you know....play BINGO in the back seat :) the first park has alot of parking spots for that. Now that I'm a dad & family man I come again for birthday parties & also just to hang with family to grill & see the low riders on weekends. My favorite reason to come tho is to see the Sunsets with my daughters, have a late picnic, listen to music & just watch the sun set, love it. Me & my family's favorite park in the South Bay hands down. Now with the Gaylord Resort next door the park looks better & is extended. We will continue to go & see those sunsets & one day I'll bring my grandkids here too. See you soon J Street Park.

Needless to say they've made some big changes in the last nearly 40 years. Plenty of picnic tables and park benches throughout the area. Some on full sun some shaded. Of course the big feature of this park nice boat launching ramp. On my last visit I saw a squadron of pelicans fly past several times. Each time by the time I got my phone out they were gone. They usually do a good job keeping the grounds and restroom clean.

They come in and clean every day at 1:30 pm (the dog park is closed for 20-30 minutes). It's inside the mall so you can pick up any items you need after your dog is tired out from the fun they will have at the park. It's also very cute! There is sand and astroturf for the dogs to run on.

And I really liked that the sand box area was pretty well separated from the splash pad and play structure. It's a big pet peeve of mine when there's sand everywhere at the other areas. As we got there relatively early, parking was still manageable but it was definitely full as we were heading out by late morning.

We took the longer trail, the one that goes by the base and it was frankly not very interesting. Some parts smelled bad due to brackish water. It would be much better to run this trail if you're into fitness, or ride a bike. The trail ended at the slough with views of the river and Mexico. The trail was out and back and it would be nice if it could do a loop instead, hopefully plans to build a bridge are in the works. It would also be nice if the trail could connect to the beach. There's a small visitor center with exhibits and the rangers we talked to were very friendly and helpful. Parking is free and there are no fees to enjoy this park.

You can be in the main area where most dogs interact aka the area immediately in front of the gate or walk alongside the edges or the wings of the park and have it be a bit more secluded. Bring a ball because not enough sticks and branches to go around here. And your own poop bags because none are there as far as I could tell.
