I leave this review after I had a ....... done today at McDonough District Hospital. Due to Covid19…read moreI had my temperature take in the tent in front of the emergency entrance. I had to wear a mask which made me dizzy all the way to the admitting desk. The nurse was very concerned and took me to the changing rooms. Another nurse took my blood pressure. It was way up. Due to the mask? After another measuring without the mask the BP was normal. Every nurse was very friendly and made me comfortable. Asking for warm blankets every time. Love those!!! The Anesthesiologist, Dr. Trost was very friendly in explaining what they would do to make me sleep. His German name translate to Comfort! I was wheeled into the room where the procedure would be done. And that nurse was speaking German to me! I woke up and felt like new! Very comfortable with warm blankets. Two cups for water and two cups or very good coffee later I met with Dr. Gonzales. He explained all in easy to understand English. So I say thank you to: Dr. Gonzales, Nurses Andrea, Ashley, Marizona, Steve, Katl, Kaylie! I am very pleased that you took such a good care of me!

MDH is a clean facility, and I appreciate that aspect. However, I need to emphasize a serious…read moreconcern: despite Rush Hospital in Chicago sending orders for MRI/MRCP testing to be completed here, MDH never contacted me to schedule. Another healthcare provider also attempted to arrange the same testing through Rush, and again MDH did not follow up. This lack of communication has made it difficult to trust medical facilities in Macomb or the surrounding county. Cleanliness is important, but reliability and responsiveness in patient care are equally critical, and unfortunately MDH fell short in this regard.

This is for the WAYLAND, IA clinic...DO NOT GO THERE! So this all started 5 weeks ago now almost…read moregoing on 6 weeks since my mom has had severe back pain and has been BED RIDDEN, her back pain has gone back years and years, we all knew that she would have to have another surgery eventually and inevitably this has to happen NOW. Now my issue with these so called physicians and nurse practitioners are they are incapable of helping her or figuring out what the hell is wrong, they have done nothing but send her elsewhere, losing files, documents, needing more information which we had already given them MULTIPLE times...NOW...to this date, she has been incapable of walking, getting her own food from her own kitchen, walking to the bathroom, and all of the simple daily tasks any person should be able to do. Myself with my newborn and her dear dear friends have been helping her literally 24/7 day and night and yes we love her and yes we would and always will help her but she needs more help than we can even try to imagine to help with alone. This facility, HCHC ( Henry County Health Center) in Wayland, IA clinic, has done absolutely nothing!!!!! All they have said is go to the E.R., which she has gone 4 times now via ambulance and they have not been anymore help than that and of course losing her files and info and all of the above that the other Drs to be able to help my mother further. This has been horrible on all of us especially with my mom. When i cried to them literally on the phone, the Nurse PRACTITIONER said "I do NOT care" and proceeded to hang up on me. My mom and her dear friends who also have been helping her have called and left MULTIPLE voicemails and everything with NO call backs whatsoever for the past week now, they have no compassion for my mother and us as a whole including my mom do not know what to do. Her next appt with her neurosurgeon is not until January 29th....they literally have waited TOO DAMN LONG!!! We were told she could go into a "nursing home and go home program" and none of them can take her or there overtaken by COVID (shocker) but I am at a loss...we all are.... I am so angry at these so called "medical professionals" that have done nothing but hurt my mom plain and simple.

I did not want to have to write this review but I think others should be very aware of the "care"…read morethey will receive when visiting the emergency room. I feel I was overcharged for my ER visit (on 5/16/2023) and also had a horrible experience to boot. After Emailing with patient billing (the person I was emailing with was very helpful and nice, had no issues with that side of things.) I questioned the bill I received because it was broken up into so many seperate charges. The two largest bills were nearly identical in amounts and both listed similar descriptions for those charges. My insurance covered part of one but not the other. Upon reaching out I was told that the bills get split into two "hospital (facility charges) and the clinic (doctors charges)". Which makes sense, however with those charges being nearly identical I still questioned it. So I asked for an itemized bill (the ones they Email have a few vague lines of description and the grand total.) Unfortunately I still have yet to get an itemized bill, instead had kind of a copy and paste of what makes up the Hospital and Clinic typical charges for an ER visit. (I do not see how a few pieces of gauze, Iodine and a kit to do 3 stitches can cost nearly $800 but that is neither here nor there and has been deemed a "typical charge") The following is my recount of my visit to the ER that evening. We arrived at 9:30am and did not leave until 2:30am. "After checking in, my fiance and I sat in the waiting room. When we had walked in I was holding a paper towel up to the laceration under my eye as it was still bleeding profusely. I ended up soaking through that paper towel and having to use the rough brown papertowel from the restroom to continue applying pressure. After a 4 hour wait I was brought back to a room. I received numbing and then 3 stitches to a laceration I had under my eye. I am grateful that he did a great job with these stitches and I have healed quickly. The scar is also not very noticeable and I am also grateful for that. The issue I had was after he was done, he did not personally clean up the blood and iodine that had been applied to the area. He casually mentioned a nurse would be in shortly to clean me up and apply an ointment to the area. We waited another 30 minutes in the room (by now 2:30am) and still no one came in. The room began to get very cold (probably from my blood loss too. I was also very hungry as the injury happend right when we were sitting down to eat. The numbing had since worn off and I was again feeling pain from the area, now compounded by receiving the stitches. I was tired, frustrated and in pain. So I took it upon myself to use water from the sink and a brown paper towel to clean myself up (which did not feel great now that the numbing had worn off...) Once I did that I poked my head out of the door to see the doctor and a nurse sitting right there leaned back in their chairs laughing about something. I said "excuse me" and was not noticed. I had to take several steps out of the room and speak loudly to be acknowledged. He apologized and said sorry that no one had come in and they were busy. I told him don't worry about it, I cleaned it myself and I just wanted to leave at that point. He did not offer the ointment or give me an explanation of aftercare of the stitches (even though I told him I had never had non dissolvable stitches before) He only quickly mentioned to have them removed in 5-7 days. I guess I'm also confused as to why he could not have taken the two minutes while I was still numb to clean me up and I would have been able to be on my way 30 minutes faster. (Freeing up another room for the several others waiting in the waiting room). I had such a bad taste in my mouth from my experience I went to our Urgent Care walk in to have the stitches removed instead. The Ladies there are lovely and I have nothing but good things to say about them down there! After this experience was sent to the "Compliance Department" all I received was a letter stating that my charges were valid and where to make payments. Oh well!

Next the old Dr comes in very patronizing poking at his foot, Not asking any questions at this point, then he said, "Well I think you're going to live son" as though my son has complained even our said the pain was anything higher than a 3, which my son said the same with a broken foot 3 years earlier so he's a high tolerance. Then Dr says But I'll order an x-ray for you after saying he'll live. My son isn't a 4yr old child crying of pain. He was calm. Collected. My son Chose to walk out. Feeling belittled for seeming treatment on visually a secret confused large toe bone joints from foot base down. Hard enough to get kids to sell treatment for injuries. Dr's like these reinforce the idea and make it difficult for young men to teach out for help when needed. I am very disappointed in this hospital and it's staff. Hope I don't have a medical emergency i can't drive elsewhere for. The service and care are unacceptable.
