MDH is a clean facility, and I appreciate that aspect. However, I need to emphasize a serious concern: despite Rush Hospital in Chicago sending orders for MRI/MRCP testing to be completed here, MDH never contacted me to schedule. Another healthcare provider also attempted to arrange the same testing through Rush, and again MDH did not follow up. This lack of communication has made it difficult to trust medical facilities in Macomb or the surrounding county. Cleanliness is important, but reliability and responsiveness in patient care are equally critical, and unfortunately MDH fell short in this regard. read more

I signed up for therapy services with Erin Chu at this hospital. I was not happy with the services I received here based solely on my own opinion and personal experiences . I would 100% not recommend this place or the therapist in my opinion not worth it to get it here. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. This is the hospital you take your worst enemy to. I will never, ever go back for any reason. My husband and I made contingency plans for other emergency rooms to go to in the future, after our experience in this one. I went in with influenza and sudden difficulty breathing. I was sick, and afraid, and they treated me like garbage. I am honesty so afraid to have a medical emergency now, knowing that I have no local options for emergency help, that I've developed a panic disorder around it. If I could help shut this pathetic excuse for a medical institution down, I would in a heartbeat. The people in this town deserve quality medical care, and they're not getting it. Instead of throwing millions at an on-site pharmacy (that we don't need), how about using that money to hire doctors and nurses who ACTUALLY care if people live or die? How about hiring doctors and nurses who WEREN'T at the bottom of their class?? The horror stories the people in this town have to tell about your hospital should have you hiding in shame. Horrible place. Zero patient care . As a retired RN this place is dangerous and should be closed. Uncaring staff and worthless practitioners. Brandon Burnett RN NP is useless and does not seem to have the slightest idea on common illnesses and a complete zero in patient care. Never helped me at all and happily sent me home with nonsense and here I am a day later still in severe pain and knowing there is no help in this hell hole. This place needs closed.A waste of time and zero care for people. Worst place ever, Drive to another city this place does not care if you live or die or if you are a 66 year old disabled retired RN...they are not allowed to care. I will work every day to see this place and it's uncaring staff run out of this otherwise decent town. I can only imagine the harm the have caused and continue to cause with their recess disregard. I've had so many bad things happen to me at this hospital. I wasn't prompted to leave a review until I left a comment on their page, and they deleted it without apology . I lost a baby at this hospital. I told the doctor I was having contractions, and he told me it was Braxton hicks, despite my insistence that it wasn't. I was sent home, and I lost my baby that night. No apology . Years later I was sexually assaulted by someone performing an EKG on me . I finally built up the nerve to talk about it, comment deleted, and no apology. This hospital absolutely sucks. I've been in there twice now for severely different problems. The first time was for abdominal pain, which was rated a 9 on the pain scale. They told me that I didn't "act in pain enough". I never got any pain medicine, and they told me I just had a UTI. While they never did anything to try and diagnose the vomiting, nausea, dizziness, or pain. The second time I was there was only two days ago. The office ladies were super sweet, while the nurses/doctor while I was there were SO slow. It was insufferable. They were messing around in the hospital, and it was so unbelievably obvious that they weren't busy. I was there for hip, tailbone, and back pain. While I actually got pain medicine this time, they had me WALK to the x-ray room. Now I know that is NOT hospital protocol. The guy doing my x-ray was touching me a little bit weirdly. He didn't even x-ray my entire spine to check for a compression fracture. While that may have not been ordered, that's a whole different story if that is the case. I fully believe I should have gotten my spine x-rayed, as there was a high chance of a compression fracture.After the x-ray, things surprisingly went smoothly. read more

I made a phone call to the woman's center, due to missing work with abdominal pain to get appointment for pelvic exam. I explained what I needed and was placed on hold for approximately 3 minutes and then was told by the woman on the other end to tell me she would need to here back from a nurse. I was never asked for my phone number or my name, now how the heck are they going to call me. I had just got blown off and judged by someone based on how i had explained my medical needs. If this is how the front line in the clinic interacts with people on the phone then i definitely dont want to see any of their providers.​ read more

My 95 year old grandfather is in the hospital with a broken hip, and my mother and I are visiting him, I've noticed a few things. The nursing staff is hit or miss depending upon the shift. His nurses from the first two days were pure angels - he's 95 and very cantankerous - they were so good with him; Leslie was so very patient and spoke well with us family members. Following those first two days, the nursing staff was a nightmare, absolutely no patience, told us that only one of the two of us could be in the room with him at a time, when no one had an issue with it before then. They man-handled him, and did not seem to care what pain he was going through. The first few days, the nurses were in to check on him every so often, after the other crew took over we were lucky to hear from them over the speaker. The staff on 2nd floor, March 20th thru March 22nd, deserve an award, they were a joy to be around. They appreciated having us here to help, grandpa is easier to deal with if we talk to him about it. The staff that took over on March 23rd need to be trained in some people skills and kindness. The room was clean until March 23rd as well, but today there are piles of dirty sheets on the couch. One other note, Dr. Nwafo and Dr. White, and Megan the NP, are amazing!! read more

While the staff at the desk are courteous and polite, the doctors in this hospital are pitifully incompetent. The quality of the nursing staff is hit or miss depending on the shift. Long story short, we went in for issues related to sudden blood pressure DROPS , and we're told that the ER is a stressful place and that makes it high. Without the doctor even so much as looking at our chart, or medical history or anything. These are contracted doctors who don't care because they can't get in trouble. This is wrong. This wasn't our first trip by any means, but it seems like every time we are here, we are either GROSSLY misdiagnosed, told only about one obvious issue instead of the problem we came in for, and asked 17 different times if we are pregnant. The medical staff of this place is apalling. While the next closest hospital is in galesburg, 1 hour away, it will ALWAYS BE worth the drive there. The staff here couldn't diagnose a hole in the ground from their head. With maybe one exception. read more

At this point, I'd much rather bleed to death than brought here. I've had several bouts of acute low back pain in the last 2 years and every time I go to the ER when it's late (after my primary care doc is closed / when I've run out of pain managing meds that I only use than the pain is so bad I can't walk) I'm either repeatedly given pain meds that cause worse side effects than the extreme pain (Vomiting, violent diarrhoea, Hallucinations, and blackouts ) or talked to like I'm an Opioid addict looking for a free high and scooted back out the door. In my 25 years of going to this hospital, I have NEVER had a positive experience with the ER or the Doctors in the main hospital building. My primary care doc is a saint, I love him a lot but man, the ER is a damn mess. read more

I leave this review after I had a ....... done today at McDonough District Hospital. Due to Covid19 I had my temperature take in the tent in front of the emergency entrance. I had to wear a mask which made me dizzy all the way to the admitting desk. The nurse was very concerned and took me to the changing rooms. Another nurse took my blood pressure. It was way up. Due to the mask? After another measuring without the mask the BP was normal. Every nurse was very friendly and made me comfortable. Asking for warm blankets every time. Love those!!! The Anesthesiologist, Dr. Trost was very friendly in explaining what they would do to make me sleep. His German name translate to Comfort! I was wheeled into the room where the procedure would be done. And that nurse was speaking German to me! I woke up and felt like new! Very comfortable with warm blankets. Two cups for water and two cups or very good coffee later I met with Dr. Gonzales. He explained all in easy to understand English. So I say thank you to: Dr. Gonzales, Nurses Andrea, Ashley, Marizona, Steve, Katl, Kaylie! I am very pleased that you took such a good care of me! read more

My husband had cancer, and we had worked out everything with his oncologist financial-wise. Or so we thought! He had to have chemo at the hospital for 2 days one week instead of at the oncology office, and VERY long story short, because of the hospital's billing/coding incompetence, we are now stuck with a $30,000 bill. Also, during my husband's 2nd round of treatment, we ended up having to take him to the ER for passing out. The doctor who saw us ordered EVERY test under the sun, even though I told him he'd had this problem before. Thankfully, we were still under care when this particular doctor got off shift, so we received care from a different doctor... and she even told us that the previous doctor has been known to over order tests! That's cool... cause, ya know, we're made of money. I wish there was a different hospital closer. This place is a joke. read more

Extremely disappointed in this hospital. My son attends WIU woke with abdominal pain. Saw campus MD who sent him to the hospital for appendicitis. He had an appendectomy later that day. Care there was actually pretty good but we received the bill. The hospital does not contract with his insurance so very little was covered. We have been trying to work with them for a 14k bill. They have Been very difficult to work with to arrange a payment, sent a check which hasn't been cashed because it "isn't full payment". Most hospitals will work with families especially since this was an emergency! how is a hospital not contracted with a large well known insurance company when they have potential patients from all over the world that they may have to care for out in the middle of no where! Did they think it was appropriate to have my child wait for treatment till we could find a hospital that takes his insurance.. don't even get me started in the insurance company. I have never experienced horrible care until i came here. Nurses were very rude and don't know how to take blood, and my nurse dug way too deep. Waited about 5 hours or more and it's ridiculous at this point how they are not even communicating with me. read more

I was in the ER for serious complications dude to being diabetic. I have been in the ER before and have had horrific experiences from being left in a room alone for 8 hours to being seen by poor PAs (physician assistants). There are some nurses and a few ER docs who are decent, but you never know. This last time I was in the ER i had severe pain from lactic acidosis and while the nurses and PA asked my pain level (which was a 9/10) I was never given ANYTHING for the pain. Like other reviewers, I too understand the current state of the country and the Opioid Epidemic however, I am not a junkie, addict, pill seeker, etc and I think it's fair to assume that if one goes into the ER with a critical condition which causes horrible pain that I would get SOMETHING - but no. To top it all off, I ended up feeling BAD for asking because if you ask and they are uncomfortable with administering some sort of pain med they mark it in your chart that you're a drug seeker. One PA (who no longer works there thank god) told me "I feel very uncomfortable giving pain meds..." to which I replied "Well, I feel very uncomfortable being in PAIN - GET A REAL DOCTOR." Why even ask my pain level if you're not going to do anything about it? Long story short - AVOID THIS ER and HOSPITAL AT ALL COSTS. People die here due to poor care. My advice would be to go to Carthage hospital - much friendlier and the bedside manner of the nurses and docs is outstanding. read more

An absolute nightmare of an experience. They don't have anyone on staff after hours to deal with insurance information - and by "after hours" I mean 7-8 PM. I came in for a shoulder issue: limited movement getting less and less by the hour, pain getting worse and worse by the hour. I have had a torn ligament in other shoulder so I knew something was wrong. It wasn't the same issue, but something similar. First off, I just got a new insurance card in the mail and it has one different number on it. I told the receptionist I wasn't sure which one was the correct one because of that. She looks at them and says, "This one looks newer so I'll go with that one." .... COOL. lol. I'm in pain though so it's like, whatever okay. That can be worked out with my insurance. My health is the important thing right now. I had my vitals taken, waited longer, then a gentleman came into the room dressed in scrubs. I assumed HE was the HEAD NURSE on duty. He asked me a few questions about my shoulder, had me move it up and down, said a few words then left the room. An hour later, they have me follow them in to take xrays. I didn't know I was waiting on xrays, when she says they're giving me xrays on my shoulder and chest. I ask why my chest, and the response I get is, "Because your lung is by your shoulder." Spoken to me as if I'm a child. That is an EXACT QUOTE, btw, from the radiologist. I argue for a bit then figure, you know what, why not, maybe I have lung cancer or something, lol, gimme the damn xrays. Take the xrays, go back to the room, and wait. The MAN who I assume is the HEAD NURSE comes back in, tells me they don't see anything on the xray and it's probably shoulder tendonitis. They're going to give me a sling and to take motrin 3 times a day. I tell him I took motrin earlier and it did little to relieve the pain. He says something about Tylenol with the motrin and maybe try naproxen, to which I reply that naproxen upsets my stomach. He tells me oh well just get some zantac or similar antacids. So let me get this straight. I understand the whole opiate thing going on in the USA right now and doctors not prescribing it, but you're telling me it's better for my body to take Motrin, Tylenol, and an antacid such as Zantac all at the same time, instead of just giving me two opiate based painkillers for the night. Again, I know this is a losing battle so I just say I'll take motrin and nyquil so I can sleep through the pain when I get home. Then, I ask him if I can get a steroid shot in the shoulder. He says he is unable to do so. The doctor on-call can do that for me. Then he leaves. I'm excited. I'm gonna get something to relieve this pain which may or may not work immediately but it's something. Well, 45 mins later, an EMT/ER tech comes in holding a sling. I say, wait wait, how much will my insurance cover on that sling and how much will it cost. He says he will get the nurse. The nurse comes back in taking the sling out of the box while entering the door. I tell her I wanted to know how much that would cost towards my insurance. She says she doesn't know and when I press her on it, she states that no one is here at the hospital currently that can give me that information. Again, this is 7:30 PM probably. And then she proceeds to say, "The doctor said this is for your elbow tendonitis." And I say, "ELBOW!? It's my SHOULDER." At this point, I'm beside myself. This is like some kind of mad house experiment. Then I ask her. "What DOCTOR?" She tells me that the person I thought was the HEAD NURSE was in fact the DOCTOR. He never told me his name. He never told me he was the doctor. No one told me he was the doctor. In fact, he himself told me the on-call doctor would be in to determine if I get the steroid/cortisone shot or not. She then tells me, "No. That's Dr. White. He won't be in until tomorrow," You can imagine how completely batsh*t crazy insane I think all of this is at this point. Is this some kind of joke. Am I on some sort of sick reality show joke of an experiment right now? What is going on!? I flip out. I lose it. I straight up leave the ER room. They have done absolutely nothing for me. Nothing whatsoever. I ask to speak with a supervisor. They're "changing shifts" so I have to wait. I end up waiting 30-45 minutes, pacing, beside myself. Just trying to calm down. She finally comes out and sits down with me in the waiting room. There are OTHER PEOPLE in the waiting room, mind you, families. She wants to do this right here. Fine. I lay out everything. She scratches 2-3 words of notes on a ratty piece of paper, offers no help and again makes me feel like I am absolutely helpless and unable to get any medical care. I give up. I leave. I came in for a shoulder issue.At no point did anyone have me raise my sleeve to even look at my shoulder. Incompetency from the moment I walked in to when I left. SCARY. Do not trust this hospital with your health. Look at other reviews on the internet, and BE WARNED. read more

MDH = Most Die Here! Nurses are wonderful, food is great.....but we went to the ER on 3 occasions....they stuck my wife 6 times and never got blood....sent her home with 220 blood pressure. Misdiagnosed my blood clot and ruined my left leg valves. The administrator spends money like they are not going to make any more. Want it to be good but sadly Mayo Clinic said "you better stay out of there." Nurses and those who work are GREAT ... TOP NOTCH.....Other....not so good! read more

Drove 45 minutes to their walk-in clinic only to be told that they had stopped taking patients already (an hour and a half before closing) because of a 2 hour wait time. So I coughed and oozed my eay back to the car for the 45 minute trip back home with no treatment. I recommend seeking care anywhere else. read more

If I could give negative reviews it would be -10. This has got to be one of the worst hospitals in the country!! Can't read X-rays, can't get you in or get even stitches put in in a timely manner. My son had a "broken elbow" and had to have a cast put on a few weekend ago until Monday when we saw a real dr and of course there was nothing wrong with him! My father severely cut his head open this weekend and the jerked around for hrs and hrs when this was indeed a medical emergency! They gave him the numbing shots 2 hrs before finally putting in the first of 49 stitches which by that time was for the most part worn off and they wouldn't do anything else for him, he had to sit there in Agony for all 49 stitches and now of course he has an infection because they can't even properly clean a wound!! I can not stress enough to steer clear of this hell hole at all costs, drive to Carthage, Quincy or Galesburg, anywhere but mdh!!!!! read more

This is by far one of the most rudest hospitals I ever been too. The nurses there are mean and not friendly, the paramedic acted as if he didn't want to push my wheel chair and my husband had a hand full of my belongings and he had to push me in the wheelchair because the rude paramedic didn't give me a push. I was suppose to deliver my first baby here at the hospital but that's definitely not going to happen. My OB is amazing but the nursing staff is horrible, I wouldn't put my new born nor my life in their hands. Not a friendly patient environment. I plan on delivering my baby in Peoria, rather take the trip than go to this hospital. read more
